  1. Hrmmm... Usually I like the "Chrome Hearts" stuff... this however I don't like so much. The "patrizzi" dial (browning of the subdials) I like quite a bit, the painting on the dial... not so much. That reminds me I've got a sub sitting waiting for me to get a hold of a chrome hearts band for it... thats been a back burner project for monthes.
  2. I have both the above books (and a few others that Am*zon sells)... not too bad... but then again, they don't really cover what your going to need to know to tear apart, service and reassemble in a working fashion ETA movements specifically (the ones you'll most commonly find inside, or copied inside reps), they cover many movements and for the most part explain in a broad overview how to work on an automatic/handwound movement. I'm currently working my way through the first level TZ school... i've learned alot and would recommend it highly. The Zigmeister above praised the TZ courses... good enough for me. I'm currently trying to find "blueprints" of the most commonly found ETA movements to work with after I finish out the TZ schools... would love to be able to service my own 7750 clones. (i'm well aware my asian 7750s aren't ETA... note I said "clones"... comparing a Swiss ETA7750 to the asian clones I have has shown differences... nothing too huge... but differences) If anyone knows where I could source assembly instructions / parts lists / blueprints for our commonly seen rep movements let me know
  3. I believe that photo shows Che with a GMT rollie... recall hearing/reading somewhere that the GMT rollie was pretty much standard wear of the Latin American Revolutionaries... Durable, reliable, water"proof" and capable of showing two timezones... everything your revolutionary-on-the-go could ask for. Edit: may be wrong though... using "Zoom" tool, kinda looks more like a Sub bezel... hrmm. Perhaps I was lead to believe incorrectly prior.
  4. I've been a member of the three larger forums for a little while now... 150+ posts on each... about two monthes ago the infighting and general tone of the forums took a sharp turn for the worse in my opinion... perhaps was only on one board and that influenced my feelings about all the forums as a whole... The fighting on RWI was by far the worst. either way, I took a bit of time off from the forums. I popped my head back up a few weeks back on RWI and saw that things had continued to slide there... Today I decided to read RWG2 a bit and found this thread. Things are looking up I must say. I'll probably play wallflower at RWI for a while till I see that the changes are for the better and that the changes infact stay "changed". I love reading these forums and enriching my knowledge of watches and movements as a whole... It pained me to stop reading them for a while, hopefully I'll be back in full force now. /em gently enters toe into the waters to test em out.
  5. Don't forget about Vacumm... his work is also top notch. But if your in Canada already... The Zigmeister is prolly the easiest option for you.
  6. I also have gen hands on my 4th gen PO... Ofrei does sell them all... look up the model reference number on the Omega website and then match that model reference number on Ofrei's site... should run you about 40usd without shipping (least it was about that much for me... a few monthes ago)
  7. US member here... For many US members, their Home States law is going to be of the most interest. The federal government leaves many many things up to the states... It wouldn't suprise me to find that different US states = different laws re: reps. In my home state (Ohio) it is illegal under ORC code 2913.34 Trademark Counterfeiting to: Manufacture (attach or affix the counterfeit trademark) whether or not the goods are intended for sale or resale Possess, sell, or offer for sale the machines to manufacture. Purchase or otherwise acquire goods with the counterfeit trademark with intent to sell or otherwise dispose of the goods. Sell, or offer for sale, with knowledge that the trademark is counterfeit. Under Criminal Rule 41 or Chapter 2933 of the ORC law enforcement may seize counterfeit goods whenever encountered. Owning of reps appears to fall to the civil courts.... however selling (even on these boards and person to person) would be a criminal offense. As Pugwash has been kind enough to point out... it is illegal to smuggle the counterfeit goods into the country... yes, the dealer is doing the shipping, but at your request so the buyer has some culpability there as well. Anyone who says that it isn't breaking *any* laws to purchase a rep is deluding themselves.
  8. Posted basically the same response on TRC: Overpriced canal street quality crap. Everything they sell can be found cheaper and higher quality from our dealers... look at the Panerai reps alone... then laugh. The 725usd rollie sub appears to be the same 188usd sub that many of our dealers sell... either way pass.
  9. Was your crown correctly marked to the gen?... I've got the blue dial link chrono and noticed when I looked closely at the gen at a local store that the crown had a different insignia on it. I think By-tor posted a great review of this watch a few monthes back and he addressed the crown being incorrect. Is this a big issue to me? nope. I still love this watch.
  10. For what its worth... I read a thread on a Gen board (I know... I know... was bad of me) that discussed removing AR from the face... Use an alcohol based substance... Rubbing Alcohol is perfect and a bit of elbow grease and a nice soft non-scratching cloth... Just the suggestion I read... if you murder your watch don't hold me responsible... I have 1 double AR'd watch and it seems to be fine... doesn't get any more dirty any quicker than any other watch I have.
  11. @ Nounds Defions Wow... I would certainly be disappointed as well... However you are dealing with Joshua. You'll be fine because he will make it right.
  12. Very nice... very lucky for you as well... count your blessings. I know I do everytime a rep arrives safely.
  13. Hey... that tool on the right... thats the same one I ordered. Sweet. And for the 45mm... went Pumpkin (have a black bezel insert coming that was part of a package... may change to black bezel/orange dial... time will tell) And yeesh... hope we didn't accidently thread-jack here. Oh and to be nice and clear for all reading.... Vacumm did great work on my 4th gen... In no way, shape or form did anything he do cause my current lume woes... I'd highly recommend his services to anyone. I know that relume is an option... I may also consider just doing a Gen dial on the 42mm... I'll wait to decide after i've had the 45mm for a few weeks... either way I can't wait for my caseback opener to get here... I'm dying to wear a PO again.
  14. I'm pretty certain that screwing up the works inside one of your own watches is some sort of right of passage in this community... I'm guessing we've all done it at one point or another... Except perhaps The Zigmeister, Vacumm, RBJ and those others that seem to have been born with the inate ability to breakdown and repair these things... I've done it once. Will never make the same mistake again. I certainly don't fancy myself a watchsmith... just a schmuck with some tools and enough knowledge to be dangerous... I'm getting better though... have several crappy reps that I'm taking apart as a learning experience... I'm not dumb enough (yet) to mess with any of my 7750s... they are all running fine and shall stay safely in their cases. I disagree that 7750 movement as a whole should be avoided... the newer 28.8kbph version has treated me just fine... I do tend to avoid the 21.6kbph version but that is just my tastes... I know everyones milage and experiences vary on this one.
  15. 42mm is the 4th gen... I've read about the lume dropping off quite a bit. Just ordered the "Ultimate" 45mm version... praying I don't have the same drama with that one.
  16. As Andrew stated, contact Joshua through the above email... I did so this morning and (as always) got a reply within minutes... Ordering was a manual process at this time... sent payment to him manually Told him what I wanted in a totally seperate email... easy as pie. Took 1 minute from the time I emailed him what I wanted and sent the payment (gotta love Firefox and multi-tab browsing) to get confirmation email with my EMS tracking number... As expected... Andrew and Joshua are on top of things.
  17. I'm just curious... Did Everyones 42mm PO do this?... mines done it twice now. First the 4 o'clock fell out... reglued it but killed the movement by mistake... (newb error... used springbar tool to remove stem... never again) (off to Vacumm for repair/service/gen hands) got it back, wore about three hours... looked down... and the 2 o'clock lume dot is visibly lifting up... I love the watch... it don't love me. Ahwell... waiting on caseback opener to attempt second repair as Vacumm seems to have used a really big wrench to put the caseback back on... Pretty much water-resistant at this time though... no way water can get in it at the moment. Either way... consider getting the Gen hands for a quick easy upgrade... made a huge difference in looks... I love it even more now.
  18. Wow... I could do a better job than that and I'm only just starting the TZ level one course... Thats is truly disturbing... But I can now say, I've got a rep vintage sub that makes at least one gen look like pooh.
  19. @chad... easy answer on this one... the Standard Aquatimer is 2mm smaller in case size... This limited edition is a different case from the others in the Aquatimer line... I hope the standard aquatimer chrono and its base also become available... in Ti.
  20. Another possibility is a hung up mainspring... If the watch is consistantly that slow... beat it. Slap it crystal first into your palm, then case back first into your palm... that will usually free up whatever kink/gunk has messed up the main spring... Failing that..... a full service as the the others have suggested.
  21. Tools and the 1st level TZ watchschool here... any hobby that keeps me out of the garage and away from my motorcycles keeps the wife happy... I'll probably get the tools and schooling.
  22. Guess I'll be the first to post this opinion then... Bracelets (almost always) FTW!!!!1!11 On pretty much any piece shy of a Pam I prefer a nice metal bracelet. It would pretty much go without saying that I prefer Tool/Dive watches... I don't think I actually *own* a single "dress" watch (IWC FA Jones type...) and I don't think I'd actually have *use* for a watch of that type either... Watches, for me anyhow, need to be pretty much bomb-proof. They will get wet. They will have other liquids than water on them (blood, oil, various motorn vehicle fluids, saline etc...) They will get hung up on things and need to not rip off my wrist, they will be on my wrist during physical altercations... That being said... I do enjoy Pams on straps during my off days for nice relaxed dinners with the wife round a wonderful local curry shop. But in general... read 95% of the time... a metal bracelet is on my wrist.
  23. Holy cow. It took me about 45 minutes to resize my 4th gen PO the first time... that was with the link-pin tool... After a bit of practice and such on other pinned braclet reps I could probably do the same operation in about 15 minutes... But I fail to see how the ultimate PO could be harder... are the pins welded into position now?... Yeesh the 4th gen was rough.
  24. Man... You guys are unlucky out there on that west side of the CONUS... My stuff comes through JFK... Think my average customs time is 4 - 8 minutes, never had one sit 30 min according to tracking.... My next watch'll get seized now...
  25. I've got an Xbox360... big fan. GoW is a great game. Going to pick up Rainbow Six: Vegas tomorrow, I just can't put that one off.... My gamer tag?... look to the left there... same as my forum name. Sadly I don't spend that much time on live ATM... I'm hopelessly addicted to Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion at this time. And my .02usd on the PS3 v X360 v Wii thing.... I'll buy em all eventually. The Wii is on the Xmas list. I'll probably get the PS3 in about year when games worth playing come out. I actually had the 60g version for about 18 hours on the release date... Resistance was a good game, but its the only good game at this time. And I got an offer for the PS3 I couldn't refuse... I'll happily plod along with my X360 (and hopefully a Wii if the wife comes through on xmas) for the foreseeable future.
