  1. You know, I think it does. Some of the differences are 1) the pearl (can be changed with bezel insert); 2) the crystal (can be replaced); 3) lume quality (gen glows as well as an Panerai I've ever seen; 4) and the hands sit further down on the post, probably due to the fact that gen is based off a different caliber than the rep. It is a great rep, though. I just wanted the assurance of a warranty, frankly. You CANNOT go wrong with a UPO.
  2. The rep will never be a gen, though. Went through a lot of PAM reps before I ultimately got this: and this: or this: because the gens look like this on the inside: Fact of the matter is that there was always something that irked me with each of the reps. Something in the back of my head. That's not to say that I don't love the hobby, otherwise I wouldn't spend so much time here, but I consider my reps a bit of a test drive. When I fall in love with something, I typically replace it with the gen. If I find myself flipping, then I don't purchase the gen. Now, that said, there are folks on the forum that know my proclivity for flipping gens, too, so maybe we'll just chalk it up to sickness and leave it at that! In fact, of all the watches posted here, I only still have one of them!
  3. I loved the UPO so much, I had to go for the gen (45.5mm) Some pics. And to give you an idea of the size on my wrist. P.S. Not flexing, just holding the arm up for the camera.
  4. Beautiful watch. Great choice for the blue dial.
  5. BTW, just saw this thread. Maybe I should have some faith in it.... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=77688&hl=
  6. It sure looks purdy, but I have zero faith in the running seconds at 3 modification.
  7. I think these pictures are still from samples. Let's wait until the first real production model is delivered, my guess is the 60-80 issue will be fixed.
  8. For what it's worth, I PM'ed Italiano about his experience and he said the watch wasn't working. He advised me to stay away. I really, really like the watch, and want one. Just want to make sure that it's not a paperweight.
  9. I'm not a fan of either gen or rep. The gen just looks to overdone.
  10. This is about $400 more expensive than I expected.
  11. I like this one. Still have that damn date font question on the gen PO, though. Looks thinner than what I saw yesterday at an AD.
  12. Looks like the genuine PO has a bolder font than the standard ETA movement. More to the point, looks like the Planet Ocean font is different than other Omega calibers -- just a bit bolder. Can someone confirm? Also, looks like Omega has recently changed the date font, meaning that new models appear (to my eye) to have slightly bolder font than previous models. Can anyone confirm? Thanks, TK
  13. Sorry to keep bumping this thread. Just looking for an update as to impressions. Thanks.
  14. Could they really have done this in response to us? Seems pretty cool.
  15. This is really, really good advice.
  16. That's Asian? Did they really take the time to put the ETA stamp on it? I guess upon close inspection the stamp doesn't look all that sharp.
  17. It always seems like every time he fixes something, there's another problem that rears its ugly head. I applaud him for some of the ambition that he shows in his offerings, but some of these problems just annoy me. I've had three of his watches, and each had some unique little issue.
  18. I will say this: I have a modded UPO that feels every bit as high quality as some of my gen watches, and I'm including the genuine PAMs in this comparison. I think that reps (some of them, anyway) have come quite a long way. All that said, I'm surprised at your general impressions of the genuine watch that you have. I've never been really disappointed with any of mine, more impressed w/ the reps -- if any of that makes sense.
  19. What a great watch. The V crown guard really transforms the watch, doesn't it. The dial looks to be one of DSN's best efforts, as well. Wear it well.
  20. A lot of the collector galleries are gone for me, the Chieftang, the K2222, watch repair. Plus the Joshua forum is showing as "protected" and I can't seem to get access. I'm sorry if this has been covered, I just haven't seen anything about it.
  21. Also can't seem to access all the threads -- some of them are locking me out. Anyone else having these issues, or just me?
