  1. Ordered this one from Sead on the 13th and arrived today the 19th!

I wanted to post some photos and let the people with more knowledge chime in.

    My observations on the watch:

    - Awesome fit and finish. Brushed steel looks really nice! Solid feeling in the hand.

    - CG lever snaps nicely.

    - Dial looks very nice but the color of the letters and dates look to be darker than the gen photos I've seen online. However they match perfect to the photo on the official P.com.

    - Strap quick release system works flawlessly. Nice surprise, the watch came with the tool included with it.

    - REG. T.M. nicely engraved but font size bigger compared to gen pics.

    - Lume is on par with the superlumed reps of today.

    - Tick tock is not audible and can only be heard if I press the watch to my ear.

    - Rotor is surprisingly quiet (however the only other Pam auto I have owned recently was a 388 v1 which I sold because the rotor was annoyingly loud).

Please understand these observations could just be my sample so ymmv.

I really like how it sits on my wrist. Not top heavy at all. Very good balance (imho) of not too big not too small. My wrist is 7" but round shaped and not flat.

  2. A couple of years ago I built a 16660 using jackjo's ssd as the base and it was my favorite. LINK

    23.jpg

Then I had some sort of major malfunction and sold it. Please don't ask me why...

Some time passed and I just couldn't get over the loss. I sent an email to the person who bought it off the person I sold it to.

To my surprise he agreed to sell her back to me! I was so happy. I ordered a new BpSD after reading so many good things about it with plans to swap the case set if it were indeed that good. The main thing I liked was the crystal, which has no lec. I also ordered TC's 93160A to replace the (from what I'd been reading) poor Bp bracelet.

Then I decided to go NOS vintage look. This decision came from the purchase of a NOS 16660 insert. The gen insert I had was pretty beat up, cracked pearl and all. At the time I loved this look. But as I age so do my taste buds and my taste in watches. I loved the new insert I picked up. The tritium pearl was a warm patina yet it had never been mounted and was sitting in its packaging begging to be installed. I actually didn't mind that it cost more than the BpSD!

The triple 6 arrived and shortly after the BpSD came too. I immediately saw that the Bp case set was superior so I sent both watches over to my main man Pbdad.

Today it came back and I am one happy mofackle. Enjoy the few quick iphone pics. :)

outside today is cloudy with a chance of 666..

  3. Been reading up on 16550 Explorer II's.

Hard core collectors consider the rail 16550 as the only true "creme dial" Explorers. This is because the paint defect which causes the white dials to change over time was on these dials that had rail writing and white gold markers.

However, I've discovered after reading page after page that the defected paint did run over into the early 16550 non-rail dials that used black markers.

Although not considered a "true" creme by purists, I was delighted by the fact that non-rail creme dials with black surrounds do exist! Also, purists can kiss my @ss..

So my build began. Picked up some parts like a "gen construction" Explorer II case, a CHS movement (which btw is running perfectly), and some other parts. Most important pick up was a gen 16550 white dial with black markers.

The dial I picked up obviously didn't have the paint defect because it was white as snow.

Everything was sent to pbdad for lug holes and some pbdad-magic on the dial.

    Check it out :)

Reference I used taken from Rolex book

Once the watch is back in my hands I'll update with completed pics. The dial pic pbdad sent me got me so excited I had to post something.

    Thanks for looking!

  4. Hey all, I've been using Zigmeister for a while now and love his work. After a long break I am back to repdom and need some work done but read in some threads that he retired?!

    Can any one confirm?

Sorry if this has been beaten to death but I'm a bit out of the loop after my break.

    Thx in advance!
