  1. You're calling a symptom, not the illness. Seriously.
  2. Jesus! I knew I should've bought one last year when I had the chance @ 9K!!!
  3. YES, I WILL OBEY MY INSTINCTS TO SEND THE WATCH TO ALASKA FOR NANUQ to resize the bracelet! Nanuq, thanks for the wishes! It would take quite a bit for me to part with this, it really is a gem that I am already very attached to. The only thing that might sway me is a trade for your gen SRSD...
  4. Precisely. This isn't a time for anti-gun and anti-American rants. Pointing fingers and crying foul isn't going to bring back the poor individuals who lost their lives.
  5. Crap, I just sliced my thumb open trying to add links to this bracelet. I don't know if I'll trust shops around here to resize it. Maybe I'll send it to that cold, drooly guy in Alaska to resize! Corgi, you're a member of the tribe too, I see!
  6. It's better that he's in RI and that you're in VA, no taxes! I'm hoping to make it up to the car event this year as well, my M6 will be done by then, I'll have the Z8 in tow as well, and it'll be a grand time!
  7. Here we go again. Only been up for a few hours, and is past $300. This guy is claiming it to be worth 4-6k, which is absurd considering there is another orange dial on the 'bay for 2600 buy it now, but let's see how far it goes!
  8. I got my Navitimer World, my girlfriend's Tank Francaise, and my mother's TT Cartier Ballon Bleu from Ray. I've known him for about a year, but friends of mine have known him when he was still at Alpha Omega. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer, more knowledgeable individual, he knows the industry unlike anyone else I've ever met. Dealing with him is always an absolute pleasure, and he always brings out the real candy for the true enthusiasts (I saw the two uber-bling OE Breitling for Bentleys, and a Parmigiani Toric minute repeater w/GMT the last time i was there), and will spend any amount of time talking about watches, cars, or life in general. Not to mention the fact that his discounts truly cannot be beat. After my year end bonus comes in, I will be getting my Glashutte Sport Evo big date from him. Whether or not he is an AD for the given brand, Ray is always the first guy I call if I ever have a watch related question, and is always worth paying a visit to.
  9. Yep, my large Murano glass I had sent out to Utah. However, these ones work better for pictures...and for enjoying my new cam+tripod!
  10. Were you gunning for this one too? How many of us were actually vying for it, out of curiosity?
  11. I think I might be able to get things under control. We'll see in the morning.
  12. Never had Krug, actually. I can't say that I am a frequent champagne drinker; perhaps I should celebrate things more often
  13. Cristal=lol. La Grande and Dom are my poisons of choice if I decide that I wish to act like a silly nanny on a particular evening.
  14. CRAP!!! WTF LISTING PULLED??? AAGH, I HOPE HE DIDN'T SETTLE WITH SOMEONE OUTSIDE OF EBAY! I hope that nobody stole mah bukkit. Nanuq, if you swindled him into selling it outside of ebay, I will offer you 1000 king salmons in exchange for the watch. I like using relevant Alaskan currency. JK! Going to message the seller now to see what happened....
  15. I was explaining my view. Reps are fun toys that one can tinker with. Gens are long term keepers. Kinda like one night stands vs. long term girlfriends. The former looks plenty good, but just doesn't have the inside/soul to be the latter.
  16. Yeah, who pays money for a beaten up cheeseball anyway!?!?! Not me!
  17. Oh, in that case, I NO LONGER CARE ABOUT THIS DAMN WATCH!!!
  18. No way to compare the two. One is like collecting high end R/C, the other is like collecting the actual cars themselves. Sure, the R/C is fun, you get a giggle out of it. But you never have that engulfing pride and warmth that you get when you look into the garage.
  19. Nanuq...I should hate you right now. Your story and advice was WAY too compelling . It is pretty crazy to think how those things have appreciated. That gen bezel/insert that cost 250 in 1991 dollars would now be worth 375. 375-->1k is a biiig difference. That 1675 that cost $900 in '95 would be worth $1250 in today's dollars. Again, pretty big jump. And yes, you did steal that 1675...I'd love to have a transitional pepsi 1675 for 2800 . That said, I've been thinking about getting one of the final production pepsi GMT-IIs a few years down the road, and holding onto it. I do wonder where Kontiki prices will be in a few years, but I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that they would at least pace the rate of inflation (if not outpace, since it seems like vintage divers are really moving). I'll watch the auction, something tells me that there are going to be a few people gunning for this one.
  20. It's not even an IDF, it's a civilian issue (no markings on the caseback), and I'd call the dial more "damaged" than "patina'd" . I still love it, in fact, I'm wearing it right now, but it looks like it probably had water damage at some point in its life. There is a potential donor on the bay right now. And yes, if I got that IDF, I'd have the WR checked/fixed (gotta preserve the dial+innards!), then I would wear it shamelessly, and my current Super Kontiki would sit on the winder. I really should try my hardest to get that IDF, it's the Kontiki I always wanted...
  21. Agreed, I like having the whole ensemble going; distinguishing oneself with great style is something that money can not buy. When I'm looking to add that extra bit of statement, John Lobb and Berluti are my weapons of choice for shoes. Kiton suits, ascot chang shirts and charvet ties for the rest. However, I'd never hope to own any of the former if I didn't have gracious friends with gracious discounts.
