  1. Awesome :tu: :tu: How is the process achieved?

Quite simple really. I used an actual electroplating machine but all you need is a 9 volt battery. Here's the original link. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f74/my-bronze-tuna-emperor-535910.html

I guess the actual voltage he used is 18-volts? I set my machine to 10 volts and got the color you see. I didn't realize that volts affect color. Either way, I'm happy with the result and turned an ordinary looking PAM into one you won't see every day.

Also, it'll bide me until they come out with a *good* 283 rep (TT just posted one for <$200 but it's plated and I can't imagine it's going to be so great for that price http://www.ttw168.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_47&products_id=8854&zenid=ff780c5b7c65287a3ef9ef1aafd72288).

  2. So... Yesterday, I read about a guy at a place who tried a trick on a thing and decided to try it myself.

The gist of it is that you use aluminum foil, a 9-volt battery or two, some Coca-Cola (for a good acid:water ratio) and some wires and you can turn Titanium into Bronze... sorta. Really all that's happening is that you're electroplating Ti with Al but the net result is a yellow/brown finish which resembles oxidized bronze.

Of course, this post is worthless without pics so here you go...

  3. Are you certain that your dlc coating is not marked with metal. Try to rub a spot with your moistened finger, and the shiny speck should come off.

Since the dlc is so tough, pieces of metal get stuck to it when you crash your watch into metal.

Well, for ~$300 I'm not at all convinced that I'm actually getting DLC. I checked and it definitely has come off the case. I'm totally digging this particular watch though so we'll see how it goes and maybe I'll get the DLC professionally applied at some time in the future. As it is, the marks are minor and not bothering me.

  4. I've been wearing my PAM 360 for a solid month now and the case is starting to show tiny knicks where I keep knocking into things. The spots are very small- pin [censored] sized- but show up because of the shiny metal underneath. The rest of the watch is perfect though and I think DLC is more resistant to abrasion than to knocks. Remember- diamonds are hard and that means they're also brittle.

  5. I have the v.1. and v.2. AP ROO Diver and the v.2. is MUCH shorter on your wrist. According to my caliper, v.1. is 15.23mm and v.2. is 13.00mm. As you all know, 2mm makes a HUGE difference in wristwatches. I wouldn't call v.2. "flat" (like I would a PP Nautilus) but it sits MUCH lower on the wrist. I have ordinary sized (7.5") wrists and it sits very comfortably on my right wrist (but not my left unfortunately) because of the spacing of the holes in the strap- on the left, it's either too tight or too loose and this is also true of my AP Chronopassion which I have on an AP Straps strap. The crowns on v.2. are much much larger and far more accurate to the gen. I bought the v.1. about six months ago to get a feel for the watch and while I really loved it, I couldn't get used to the smaller crowns, the thick case, and the fact that the rotating bezel lacked a screw down crown, didn't ratchet and would rotate in both directions (I know- three strikes too many). V.2. is a whole different story though and I highly recommend it.

  6. I'm fairly new to the rep game, but then again, i'm not a noob.

I've had some experience, both good and bad with dealers, and after the attitude one of my go-to dealer has been demonstrating, i've decide, 'enough, i'm taking my business elsewhere!'

Trouble is, it's not as easy as it seems.

Seems that no matter where i look, there's at least a few complaints about even those dealers held in high regard (PP dispute, communication issues etc)

Am i lending cases like these too much credence?

    So who's your go-to dealer?

I guess I got to RWG several years ago through Eddy Lee. At the time, I knew him as "Tanya" on ioffer. I haven't been back to ioffer in probably 5+ years and Eddy hasn't been on the rep scene for at least that long. Even so, he was always a pleasure with whom to deal.

Almost all of my deals since then have been with Josh. He's good at communication, a fast shipper, provides quality product at a fair price, and fixes any issues quickly without much commotion. As far as I'm concerned, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  7. Thanks guys... its just that I have seen some of his other vids are the watches look very good as I said .. however I fear he may be using the gens in the video to lure people..ad would end up sending real cheap/fake watches.. so I asked.. but thanks for the feedback wombat/superlative.

I hear you. I'd suggest you stick with known dealers though. Even though their pics might not be the greatest, the actual product doesn't disappoint (as long as you do your research and know what you're buying).

I don't know the dealer in the videos but it could always be the case that he's showing his best products and then shipping the actual product without any QC at all. Either way and at the risk of repeating myself, I'd go with a known dealer.

  8. Hello esteemed VIP members,

I have a small query and would like to get your opinion on the video. Its only 50sec and the guy claims the watch to be a rep. To me all his watches in the vids look super cool and so I wanted to know if you can give ur opinion if you think this watch is a rep or a gen ..thx in advance

PS: MAY BE SEE SOME OF HIS OTHER VID THE WATCHES LOOK REALLY NICE...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDNsgCnJC-M

Sorry posted this in the VIP section and got no response so posted here... Any chance the mods can delete the one on VIP section please?

Well, the guy claims it's a rep so I'd go ahead and take his word for it. Secondly, I've never seen a PP chrono in steel. Thirdly, I've never seen a PP that looked like that particular watch. Fourthly, when he starts the chrono, you can clearly see the seconds hand "tick". I've never known PP to make a quartz chrono nor a deadbeat chrono. Also, the guy claims it's a rep so...

  9. I trust Josh but I also verify before any dunkings. I have a bergeon waterproof tester that I use to make sure a waterproof watch won't disappoint me if I take it swimming. Although I'm a diver, I only go swimming to 10 feet with any watch- gen or rep. I use a dive computer for real diving.

  10. Sorry Guys

Bit brain dead - ment to say CONUS.

    Thanks

    CONUS=CONtiguous United States

In context, this means that the poster wishes only to deal with people in the 48 states which are connected to one another (and excludes AK and HI). Even though there are no customs risks associated with shipping to AK or HI, the actual shipping costs can be excessively high. When I see someone posting "CONUS" I mostly just think it's someone who's not looking for a lot of headaches when doing a deal.

  11. I received this watch a few years ago from some fly by night character on one of these Rep boards. Not only did he switch the dial on me at the last minute, but also, the crystal exploded while the watch was sitting on a shelf. I can only guess that the wrong crystal was fitted to the case but now I need a new one. Can anyone tell me what the proper part number or crystal is for this case?

  12. Just trace your steps and think about the last place you saw it. =@

Poor timing perhaps but seriously, when god closes a door, he opens a window.

Thanks again everyone for your kind words. Look it it this way, I will be able to spend more time with my RWG friends :) Truth be told, the job sucked and I wasn't happy. I had an hour and a half commute (on a good day), I didn't like what I was doing and it wasn't going to get any better. I have a couple of things in the pipeline, but sitting here when you know you should be at work, is unnerving. Like someone said; what doesn't kill you, will make you stronger.

    Marty

Dude, it's "what hurts you but doesn't kill you makes you stronger". People always forget about the hurting part.
