  1. Eagerly following this, as I recently picked up 2 mid-70s gen 1016 dials and will not cut the feet. Also curious as I have a 1655 which will need the DW, so can't remove that... From what I understand, you are microns away from the balance and the mainspring after slotting the mainplate...
  2. Sounds a lot like my build - I started with the dial first then wound up getting a Phong case from Freddy. I have a different case (unknown origin) and while it is good neither it or any of the other 5514s I've seen measure up to a phong case. Buy high cry once; buy low cry twice... 3. Sweet! Looks 100x better than the one I settled on. Mine has a Silix base, a Joey insert, and a PureTime dial (which is too small for the rehaut... :S Nice job!
  4. Mine is a 91 16570. Love it more than any other watch I own (almost...). Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
  5. For my money (and maybe I'm biased owning the gen) but the rep dial has never looked right - a lot of stuff too thick and sloppy (lume and indices particularly). Looking at the bezel and hands I think a dial swap would be a huge improvement and bring it really close to gen. Try to find a way to do it without cutting the feet though!
  6. OK, so if I could only get one, which one should I get? Looking to the forum gods to decide for me... Already have a 5513, a couple of 5514s, and a 1665... Should I get a 1680 to round out the collection or something different?
  7. I got one of his dials the other day. It was pretty good - not relief, like gen, but not printed on top like the cheaper dials... I was also impressed with the customer service. When I got the dial, it was chipped on the minute marker at the 9 and most of the 9 lume was chipped away. When I told him about it he sent me out another without even waiting for me to ship it back, relying on trust. I got QC pics and everything, so depending on what he has, this might be the new "Ingod" but with better customer support.
  8. Looked at my cases and they're 31mm not 34mm. Sorry.
  9. I may have a case lying around, if you're interested.
  10. Must ask too - who is Praz? That looks like a great dial!
  11. That's up to you. I know the 78360 will be more comfortable but not period correct. Are you looking for comfort and functionality or do you want an "all original" type? As for me, the modern bracelets do feel a bit nicer - I have a 78360 with a 93150 clasp on my gen 16570 that wears like a dream...
  12. Hmmm... Definitely pros and cons! That date wheel though... :S
  13. I know with mine (built up from a PT, various gen/upper end rep parts added) I way exceeded that. IMHO, it's a good choice for people who want an OOTB rep that is pretty good without having to source a ton of parts.
  14. I read it the same, Andy. Definitely not a bad price for a Phong, if that's the case. Also curious to hear other input/views on the kit.
  15. I could have been reading it wrong, but I looked at them last night and I believe $1650 gets the whole kit and kaboodle... (Dial, movement, case, hands, etc.)
  16. I don't see a pic, but if it's a bag of gen parts I'd keep them. Never know when you could sell them off for way more than you paid for them!
  17. I was looking at a 1575 dial and a 27xx movement. Do you suppose that would work?
  18. So does that mean that the 1575 type dials wouldn't work either, Matt?
  19. Do you suppose a 62xx series would stand up the same way an old Sub model would?
  20. Yeah... That's what I'm worried about! Haha Know anybody can do the work?
  21. Also is much narrower at the clasp, no?
  22. Can you have too many? I don't think so....
