  1. I know this is more of a "build your own" but I figured there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here... What are my options for a 1991 birth-year watch? Looking at this right now, but is it a decent price? (and real?) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-No-Date-Submariner-14060-/261744843850?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf1355c4a
  2. Pshaw, can't you lay a line? Haha
  3. Haha - just build on an addition to the house! I'm sure swmbo would be good with that...
  4. Depending on whether it was stored in a drawer or on someone's wrist anywhere from bright white to deep orange.
  5. Hah - isn't it funny that part of our hobby is replicating sloppiness and mistakes?
  6. That would be my opinion. However, pics don't represent how it looks in real life...
  7. Looks like yours is crooked - check out the 15min marker. See how it looks like it is "above" the crown?
  8. That's an interesting question. I know my dial is straight and the bezel is crooked because the 15min marker doesn't line up with the crown. As far as the hair drier, I wouldn't do that - not sure how the crystal is held in place and you might inadvertently remove it too.
  9. Oh yeah - feels 100% gen like. The insert is tighter than some of the gen watches I've handled. I'm sure you could deemed the bezel instead and get it to fit the insert. We're talking bits of a mm here.
  10. Yep. Believe you me - there are days I long for an icy bit of weather (though I know I would probably be absolutely miserable!) Should I post some "Rolex on the Beach" to counteract yours in the snow, Nanuq?
  11. Nope, dead serious. Also picked up more than a handful of 1675 inserts, most faded. Also, here's the pic you requested. Sorry if it's a bit shitty and out of focus. I hate my iPhone.
  12. Haha - hot for me - if it gets into the mid-70s I start breaking out the G&Ts and the the mojitos... Also, that pic - not bad. Haha
  13. Wait... If she was naked, why was she wearing a parka? Btw, currently drinking the Balvenie 12. And in rare form - with branch water and ice. So damn hot here in So Cal (we're spoiled; it must remain between 65 and 68...)
  14. Oh, really? Yeah, I had some of that and it was great! Too bad they don't make it anymore. Try the A'bunadh cask strength - closeish, but not exact. I don't think you'll be disappointed though.
  15. Hey, everybody gets one. (shame that mine had to be on stupid inserts, instead of dials or something... haha)
  16. Eh, that's the same as me, except I picked up like 40 gen inserts for about 50 cents a piece...
  17. If you like the Glenlivet 18, try the Macallan 18. It's really good - better than the 21 even...
  18. Good point - thanks for bringing that up. As to the insert, just try and see. My gen insert had to be shaved a bit.
  19. Mmm... Nothing beats a Laphroaig on a cold day.
  20. The startime bezel is supposedly same as gen service. It's pretty good, after being modded - I think the case set and bezel are one of the best in my watch box. I have a gen T39 on mine and it fits perfectly. No water contact, but looks amazing. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.
  21. Same here - just a poor teacher... Like ephry said, the key is patience and in my opinion, not just settling. Like ingelero said - I have tons of early reps that are just too inaccurate for me to want to wear. The more accurate the parts are, the more it feels like a gen and less like a rep. Seriously though, it pays to slow down and really take your time to learn about the reference. Then, you can really justify the flaws and inaccuracies and decide if you can live with them. Depending on the case, you could probably build a decent low to mid-level build. If you have more pics, I'm sure people here (myself included) would be more than willing to give you pointers on some suppliers and directions to go.
  22. Yeah, gen HEV valve. The dial is a Vietnamese rep dial, but on a gen base. It's really well done, if I do say so myself.
  23. Yep. The earlier one is a serif dial but with a Trevor case. It's pretty slick too - heavily modified with mostly gen parts. Don't have that other case anymore (whatever it was) - I did get it returned.
