  1. G'morning one and all,

I've always wanted a Speedmaster Professional with leather wrist similar to this one:

I always stepped back from ordering one due to the incorrect spacing of the subdials. IIRC Josh stated some time ago that a new advanced version with proper subdial spacing is in the works ... anybody have any new information about that?

    Thanks a million

    Carl

  2. just my 2 cents

wich are worth millions for me n00b :) Thanks, guess I'm learning new things every day here!

So case I'm willing to invest some bucks to replace the crappy rep movement (2813) with gen one, what's the gen equivalent I'm looking for? Is there a specific one ("Yes, B&R uses ETA XXXX in their gens") or is it a trial and error?

  3. I just received a BR03-92 from a trusted dealer here and was quite disappointed that it had the 2813 movement only (21.600bph) instead of the advertised 4813 (28.800bph movement), I got a credit towards my next order though I still like the smoother movement.

    - What are the costs of replacing the existing movement with a new Asian DG4813 (I got the tools, experience and an engineering degree and wouldn't mind swapping it myself) ... and first of all, where to get the movement from .. or even better, what's the ETA equivalent to the DG4813?

    - Which dealer sells the BR03 series with DG4813 as advertised?

Thanks as always for your help! :)

  4. Having just received my all black portu from Andrew, I compared it with other reps and sumbled upon this one:

See the smoothly recessed subdials? ... comparing it to my gen 3714 that comes much closer to the gen.

My rep now however appears to have a dial similar to this (imagine it in black)

what's the deal here, what's everyones oppinions on the two different dials? Anyone know where to get that "more genuine looking" dial from?

    Thanks :)

  5. Is that a gen black dial? The tachy ring looks more like the gen and the subdials are deeper but the numbers don't look stamped like the gen.

No, it's a rep dial. Check the 4 (curvier) and 6 (more bulky), also the unstamped numbers are a hint as are the thicker prints in the subdials.

  6. Thanks for all your supportive words. I come from a family with long watch heritage: There is and was a watch wherever you go in our houses, from old antique cocoo clock my grandmother saved during the war, to old pocket watches on a wrist, to Pateks and IWCs that get handed down to younger generations. I'm awfully ashamed having to go shopping for reps, but at the moment (young, just started after graduating with an M.A., first years on the job) there ust aint the extra bug for a 4 to 5 digit watch collection.

Though I own a variety of gen watches (IWC, Omega, Patek, etc) I don't wear them on a daily basis as there's to much family heritage and history attached, so when I know the days will be rough I prefer wearing a 'neutral', replaceable rep instead.

I stumbled across reps as early as january this year, and as of yet I gathered a staggering amount of knowledge on watches, dials, movement, reps, watchmaking, etc ... If I just would go and get a real one from an AD, I'd wear it and would know actualy nothing about it ... so, I've learned more than I could ever imagine, and will prefer an honest, rep wearing guy with knowledge on the ins and outs of what exactly he's wearing over a fat bloke with a real gold rolex just to show off hands down!

    Thanks folks!

A guy that appreciates the steepness of the learning curve :)

  7. So, I came here to look for an IWC everyday rep to go along with my gen IWCs.

During the hunt I stumbled over many a watch and was more like "meeeh, ugly as f***" and went on to IWC ... as always, during the time I spent here and on rep shop sites, went deeper into watchcountry and fell in love with other watches ... Bell & Ross has been way to ostentatious for my liking ... till I ordered one ;) Panerai always was a no-go brand for me ... I fear it won't be for long ... I will hate myself for the day when I begin to start looking at Rolexes and beginning to like them ;)

Don't tell me there's no medicine for that?

  8. I'm tracking down gen hands and dial for mine at the moment, about a 1-2 month wait. I just wonder how good the rep case/crystal actually is compared to a gen and if it's worth it. I'm heading down to check one out and get a good look at the case and cystal at an AD on the weekend.

Gen dials are my big hunt too at the moment ... not even my AD contact can help (at the moment) :(

  9. Thanks for your help everyone. I ordered a 3714 from Trusty (Andrew) and will have her modded with a gen movement, I even might get my hands on a real dial from a source in Geneva ...

Taking of the devil ... I just received a real IWC improved Valjoux 7750 (Old acquaintances are golden ;) ), turns out IWC orders the movement directly from ETA IN PARTS ... which are tested, modded and reassembled by IWC watchmakers. Depending on the movement quality in the Trustywatch 3714 I will commision concepta to mod the rep for me with the IWC Valjoux 7750.

Whil searching for 3714 Reps I stumbled upon this version:

    http://www.1-pc8838.com/00iwpg10103-portuguese-chrono-ssle-whtblk-swiss-7750-p-8183.html

They claim there's a Swiss 7750 movement in .... anyone dare to comment if this one would have been worth the extra buck? (828USD for a rep ... though it's a superior 'gen' movement)?

  10. So, thinking about getting a Bell & Ross with rubber strap. As the watches are made in China ... what are the possibilities of the strap not meeting international standards and leaving me with itches and allergies the second I put it on while my skin absorbs cancerous rubber chemicals?

No serious ... are there any known issues with these rubbers straps regarding health?
