  1. I'm recently converted to my 1st Mac, a 24 inch Imac. It's a beautiful machine and I'm loving it.

Now I'm not saying it is absolute perfection, but on the whole it's been a very pleasant experience. At this stage, it's only been four months I can't see my self going back to a Windows machine. I'll need to buy a second computer in the next 12 months and it is definitely going to be a Mac of some sort.

I'd say the main thing is to expect a bit of frustration while you get used to different was of working and learn your way around the OS. Get it when you don't have urgent stuff to do and it's not too painful.

  2. Congrats Pug it looks great. How I do love the Speedy Pro. Man it's just got that special something...not just the moonwatch thing...a timeless classic.

When my time comes my 1st big name gen will be the Speedmaster Professional. Alas for me I still have to keep waiting for a fair while longer. But I can imagine how it must feel to finally have something so long lusted for.

So what's next? Do you still have a thing for the Aquatimer?

  3. Great review mate. It's so good to see we continue to have such high quality reviews of gens on our forum. The other thing I love is that this is not one of the usual gen watch suspects . Not that I don't love the popular models. But this was really refreshing to see something I never gave much thought to in the past. Thank you for taking the time to share it.

  4. Great thread BT. I've been pondering re white dials for a while now.

I used to think I hated them. I was a committed black and blue (and one orange) man. But I do like the white on my Steelfish rep. I also keep finding myself admiring some white dial watches on others wrists. Something very classy and understated about them.

But if I ever get to make my first expensive gen purchase would I go white dial. I don't know...that would take a big mental adjustment. Maybe for the right watch.

  5. I've been enjoying reading your reviews, and this is another great one.

I really like the way you express yourself. It's a joy to read something so well written. Your passion for watches just shines through.

You've got me thinking about selling my first born son to get a gen Porto Chrono. Sadly I don't know if I'll ever be able to justify this particular grail.

Thanks anyway and keep up the good work.

  6. First?? Rookie!

The fun begins with >1. ;)

I can't describe how awesome it is to raise a kid. Unbelieveable...and scary at how much impact you have on their lives, how they behave, how they form their view of the world around them...it's an incredible responsibility but rewarding in so many ways that can't be described in words.

...and you'll think it's a lot of work and stress now...but I really do mean it when I say you have no idea how easy you have it now with 1 if you ever have more than 1.

If you have the opportunity to take parental leave...as a dad... I can't recommend it enough. I took >6 months off each for all of my kids, and the bond you get with your child and the confidence you'll get as a parent I guarantee are something you will never get otherwise...and it means your wife will owe you one BIG, and you can buy more watches. :D

Congratulations! I have quoted Toadtorrent as he said most of what I was thinking. Read it again as these are words of wisdom.

I'm a full time house dad with two(18 months and 3 1/2 years)and he is right. This really brings back memories. I still remember posting about my kids birth on the forum. A really amazing time. It's one of those heaven and hell type things. Sometimes I think it's doing my head in.

But in the end you love having them (mostly :) ).

    Congratulations again. Enjoy.

  7. I've decided to buy an iMac once the new model comes out. I'm looking for advice from people I respect as to what I should buy. I guess some of the things I wonder about are:

    Is Applecare worth it?

Should I get an extended warranty?

Should I get an after market mouse?

    Software recommendations?

    What spec do people recommend?

And anything else I might not have thought of.

By way of background I'm a lifetime PC user. I have never owned a Mac, but have played around a little with a friends. I don't need a laptop as I have a 5 year old Windows laptop which I can continue to use when needed. I really like the look of the big iMac and definitely want to buy a desktop machine.

    Thanks in advance.

  8. I too love the Precista but the price holds me back (especially in Aussie dollars).

I still think it's your best option. The thing to remember is you really are getting a top quality dive watch here.

I'm hoping it makes a come back when I can afford it.

  9. I feel for you. What an appalling man. I just can't understand how some people think to act in ways like this.

But I think the others have given good advice. This was just the last straw. He will only cause you pain, and you must not let him do so. Don't do anything rash. But you must not give him any further thought from this day on. Have as little to do with him as possible.

The good thing about this incident is that it lets you cut him from your life, and have no regrets about it.

He can go [censored] himself as far as you both are concerned.

Sorry I know you already know what to do, but it really got me riled up reading about this.

  10. Surprisingly, the only watch that left me a little disappointed was the Breitling SFSO. Not that it isn't one of the best reps out there, its just that it did nothing for me when I put it on my wrist. I like it better on rubber or leather, but it has been relegated to being my "water" watch, and I hardly ever wear it.

I feel exactly the same about mine. Black leather was the best look but still...I don't think it will ever be a favourite now and this really annoys me.

The thing is it is a very nice watch and my "best" replica from a technical point of view. I so much want to love it but just can't enjoy it like my supposedly far "inferior" Speedmaster.

I know I should just let it go but it's such a good rep that I can't bring myself to do this.
