  1. Here's a quick comparison of my gen RM 005, with the RM 005 with 21J movement that's available through most dealers.

Not surprisingly, you really can't compare the workmanship of a 70k watch with a <200$ rep.

Though i must add that, the rep i have is a pretty darn good one, if it weren't for a few details which i will point out.

    On to the pics!

    Gen on right.

    1. As you can see, there's a obvious difference in size, but i suspect they were following the dimensions of an RM010. The dial, however, clearly states it's an RM 005. I'm chalking this up to a 'mistake' more than a 'flaw/tell'.

    2. 'Bezel' screws are of the different, with the gen being flat and the rep being protruding.

    3. Dial is much clearer on the gen, that's probably due to the strong AR on the gen, printing seems sharper on the gen too.

    Gen on right.

    1. As mentioned, no AR on rep.

    2. Slimmer hands on the rep.

Side constructions are surprisingly accurate. Size difference due to model differences.

    1. Movement is a major tell.

    Good points about the rep:

    Dial fonts are accurate.

    Case construction is quite good.

Spring loaded deployant buckle is unique

Dial has a nice 3D/layered effect similar to the gen. (iphone camera can't capture that)

    What can be improved:

    1. Much better strap please. The gen strap blends into the case perfectly, but the rep strap, on top of being of a disgustingly low quality, is too narrow for the case, while the gen tapers a little. For reference, there's a much better rubber strap for the rep RM 11's, if anyone's interested.

    2. AR would go a long way to improving this rep.

    Final thoughts:

Very good bang for buck for a RM watch. Let's face it, probably 1 out of 10 people would realize this is an expensive watch, and out of those, few would be able to tell from a glance. Don't bank on this rep fooling a WIS or any AD though.

I've always loved RM watches, and if they ever came out with a 1:1 version, i'll be all for it. But as it stands, they still have a way to go before this can fool anyway.

Hope you guys enjoyed the review as much as i did writing it!

  2. Most GMT watches come without a AM/PM indicator. What they have instead are bezel markings from 2 to 24 (as in 24 hours).

The 2nd time zone is read from the bezel. Eg, when it's 8pm, the GMT hand will point to 20, and when it's 10am, it will point to 10.

This way, the GMT hand will only complete a round after 12AM unlike a normal hour hand, which completes a round at 12pm and 12 am (twice).

Phil was just saying how for the 270, the GMT hand behaves like another hour hand, completing a round at 12pm and 12am.

The AM/PM indicator will tell you if it's 4pm or 4am.

    Hope that helps.

(i swear it sounded more coherent and clear in my head.)

  3. Hi guys I want to order a noob 111m as I want quite a simple pam with seconds as my first pam. The problem I have is I am right handed and I wear watches on my right hand! guess this is not normal. So would it be wrong wearing a 111 on right hand as crown is on the right of watch? I know all my other watches have the crown on the right but they are not as emphasised as a pam crown. Pams look better obviously on the correct wrist but do the crown dig into the back of your hand?

Cheers guys for advise as I'm new to Pams

    Ry

That's not weird. I do that too. Actually, that ensures the crown doesn't dig into the back of your hand when you bend it. But i do agree that it looks weird.

My advice is to check out either the PAM 26, or PAM 219.

  4. That's a rep. along with a rep bag. someone did a very good comparison regarding rep bag vs. gen bag on another forum. and all the rep signs are there.

    In case anyone's wondering:

    - spacing between the "/" should be smaller

    - shade of blue background should be much lighter.

    - Officine Panerai Font color should be much deeper blue.

    - the "1's" should be much curvier at the top (if that made sense)

  5. It's come to a point where my collection and taste have somewhat stabilized and i'm looking to add a gen to my small collection of reps.

My current goal is a pre-owned JLC Reverso Grande GMT or Grande Date.

    Here are the reasons why:

Iconic, classy design, and i'm lacking a nice dress watch

    No good reps available

    Affordable, entry level watch

Should hold it's pre-owned value well.

Does anyone have a better suggestion for a gen? The above criteria holds and i'm looking at 6k to 8k.

Here are some of the brands i wish to avoid:

    Rolex

    Panerai

    TAG

  6. Personally, i would not post QC pics here. Not only do dealers not like that, the whole point of QC pics are to help you make sure you get exactly what you ordered. (eg, cream dial instead of white dial)

It is not for the whole community to come together with a magnifying glass to nitpick on the watch. There will always be flaws, flaws which have been listed in detail in respective threads. Safari is one of those popular ones that get reviewed often too.
