Honestly, I don't know many people that would be able to restore a vintage watch.. That is left up to the professionals imo. There are only a handful of guys that can restore vintage watches properly. They are very well known and have great reputations, I can't see a single reason for a regular person, who isn't one of those few guys, to attempt to "restore" a vintage watch, especially a rolex. Do you see something wrong with trying to recreate a vintage piece that most of us can't afford? It's fun as others have said and takes patience, knowledge and skill to be able to source the right parts, get it all assembled and have a beautiful representation of an otherwise unattainable piece of horological history.. I can't afford a 100k rolex 6538 so I made one. I made it within the budget that I wanted to use and with the exact parts I wanted. There is nothing wrong with that

I used to buy gen's but I was bored. I would frequently take my recently acquired gen and trade it in for something else or sell it to fund another gen. I got into reps during a time in my life where I couldn't afford a gen or the gens that I was used to wearing anyhow. So to keep up appearances I got a few reps but quickly realized how enjoyable it was. I found this place which was like an oasis in the desert, I learned a lot. When I got back on my feet financially, I came to the realization that I had absolutely no desire to walk into a store and plop down too much money for something that I would probably end up trading or selling at a loss most likely. I now make my own reps using some gen parts and some replica parts, it's 400x more satisfying and I tend to really want to hang onto something that I made, that I sourced parts for and researched for days on end. It really is an amazing feeling. I have purchased a gen or two since but it's not the same, not even close. No pride, no personal attachment to it.. Etc. I guess it all comes down to personal preference, but when you get to the point that most of us eventually get to and can build your own watch its a beautiful thing.

That is an 18k breitling datora 785 from the mid to late 1940's. A gent's rare wristwatch with chronograph, 30 min. and 12h counter and full calendar three-body, push back. Dial: silvered, raised indexes, raised Arabic numerals, auxiliary seconds, 30 min. and 12h counter, day-, date- and month indication, alpha hands. Movm.: 2/3 plate movement, rhodium-plated, ground, polished screws, finely ground chronograph steel parts, ratchet wheel, Glucydur screw balance, blued hairspring. This for the time very complicated watch is equipped with the noble Valjoux caliber 72 C, a further development of the already come to fame at Rolex Valjoux 72 and shows in addition to the day, the month in the upper center windows, the date using a own central pointer, and even the hours, minutes and seconds on separately to the 3 additional subdials. Value I'd say from 25k to 30k.

They have to be crimped on or epoxy'd/glued on sometimes. Phong will have the hand, will cost you more than dw but who know where he is right now.. Ill check when I get home, I might have one, if I do you can have it just pay the shipping

I know freddy, it is what it is I guess, I really just meant that 1250$ is a lot better than 1650$ which was his full normal price or 1450$ which is his discounted price..
-
That's one heck of a good price for what you get. I know of two people who want one so that leaves 3... Or more
-
You guys should try a group buy. I know a few guys who are about to buy a couple of cases. The lowest he is willing to go is 1450$ but in a group buy it may be better. Just a thought

I like it! The phong case is so sexyyy and the bezel is aged so beautifully, very nice. There are lots of negative talks about phong and his prices but I'm a true believer in you get what you pay for, I know there might be a hiccup along the way or the need to send something back every so often but the quality is unmatched. Enjoy!!

Philipp and company with their ooober rare vintages.. Seriously jealous over here! Just went through his latest blog it was unreal. Those daytonas are nice but I like this one the most, out of the prototypes he posted. These others are darn nice too
