  1. Personally I don't think it's worth it for a 16610, just barely for a 16613. The Sean case is killer but it's not good enough for a gen movement IMHO. I have around $2k invested in my Sean case super-franken (gen dial, hands, crystal, crown, insert) powered by an SA3135. I dreamed of having one with a gen 3135 inside but I couldn't find one for less then $2k so for an extra grand I could have a minty M-serial gen on my wrist. If you already have the 3135 and the gen parts then it's not so bad, especially if you're doing a two-tone. Those seem to have much higher resale values then the steel models so who knows! PM me about your 3135, I'd like to know more!
  2. Of course the more research I'm doing the more it looks like an SEL bracelet could be correct for my project anyway...
  3. I'm thinking about an early 16610 project, does anyone make a decent 93150 rep bracelet?
  4. I think you've been fed some misinformation! With proper maintenance and care, BMWs can and will be some of the most reliable cars on the road! My 330xi has nearly 200k miles on it already and my E30 track car has over 300k. Granted, I've replaced just about every part on the track car but that's a completely different story... At one point in time I owned a Chevy Silverado, a Honda Accord and several BMWs of varying ages; guess which one's DIDN'T need work all the time?? Again, with the misinformation. Wheels are just like watches, there are some scary ones that are bad but they can easily be spotted a mile away with a little self-education. There are many, many replica and homage wheels that are available for a good price with great reliability. I have some on my track car and never thing twice about it! @Tribal, the car looks great man! Could be a little lower, though... ;-)
  5. My luminova insert popped straight in BUT I have a flat-four tritium insert that won't fit and the Clark insert that everyone is all horny for just floats around inside and is too small.
  6. I think once you have a gen movement you're closer to gen then franken. If it's a gen movement and rep everything else though, I fail to see the point.
  7. From what I can tell, Seans case will only take a 3135. If I had one (and I nearly did, twice) I would get a sterile sub case designed for the 3035, buy a dial from ND Trading and call it a day. For $2000 you have one badass franken, who cares if it's engraved or not? How is it different from having a gen who's case got destroyed?
  8. It hasn't been around long enough for anyone to know...
  9. He only sells the movement alone if you buy the 3135 case set as well and it's still as much as the entire watch from PT.
  10. He has the movement alone? How much?
  11. I'm losing my hair trying to regulate mine, any tips for someone without a machine?
  12. Yes to the hand mounting and this is a Sean case.
  13. So in the last few days I've had trouble with my SA3135 hands falling off, mostly the minute hand. I was ready to flip out and sell it, send it back, something until I had an epiphany: Gen hands don't fit because they're too small. I tried them and THEY WORKED! It took a little more effort to get them seated then the original hands but this is supposed to be a tool watch, I want the hands to stay in place when I fall off of something I shouldn't have been climbing in the first place. The result:
  14. Does your Sean dial fit the case? The one I got was the older one that was standard rep size and too big but I've heard he was going to be shipping properly sized ones soon...? What are you doing for hands and a movement ring for your 2892? ~Brendan
  15. It's the closest thing to a gen case that I've seen yet. The WM9 V4/TC case may be close but it's not as good as the Sean case and the Rehaut engravings leave much to be desired.
  16. You can buy both from Sean at ETAswiss.com but I sourced my movement from a Puretime watch. I'm actually using the SA3135 bracelet with the Sean clasp. I have a TC bracelet, the sean bracelet and a few noobs that I tried and the SA3135 had the best SEL fit. Thanks for the tip on the Clarks tube, I'll pick one of those up at some point. I filed the end of the Sean tube to bring the gen crown closer to the case and with some grease the friction wasn't too bad but it could be better...
  17. So my SA3135 is now ticking away happily on my wrist, wearing a gen dial and housed in a Sean case with a Gen crystal, crown and insert. As reported, mine DID NOT take gen hands AND my stem broke but that was pilot error and therefore was only on the threaded end. I remedied this by cetting the stem down short and adding a stem extension in. I ordered two replacements but the stems that shipped were incorrect so now I have to make due with what I have for now. My initial thoughts on the movement are in line with what I anticipated they'd be: it's cool, a little shoddy in terms of fit and finish but filled the niche I needed it to. I refuse to cut the feet off of my gen dial and wanted a movement that would fit my Sean case with minimal work and this certainly fit the bill. When we can get these movements in the third or fourth revisions by themselves you'll have yourself a tidy little project. Broken Stem: I broke my stem being an assh0le threading it into the gen crown. I work on cars all day so sometimes the torques needed on these tiny little watch parts seem too low to me and I overdo things. In terms of everyone else's broken stems, I think a HUGE part of the problem lies with the case design: This movement (to the best of my understanding) is built with the same dimensions as the original Rolex 3135 which has a fairly high stem location. The Sub case it's being sold in has a very low crown tube, nearly to the point of looking like a slightly heavier noob case. This will put strain on the stem and in my opinion cause it to weaken or break. I installed the movement in my Sean case and had the stem and crown in and out several times over the course of the build-up and not once had the feeling that I was straining anything. I got that feeling as soon as I opened up the SA3135 case though so I removed the stem right away and left it. Thanks for reading! ~Brendan Here's some rough "smart" phone pics just to give you an idea: A few more pics: Here's a few pics of the Sean case and the SA3135 case side by side so you can see the crown height difference: And a glamor shot with the new gen bezel insert:
  18. That depends on whether this is a WM9 case or not. The WM9 V3 could take a gen dial AND a rep dial and if this is machined the same way you'll be in luck. If it's like the Sean case you'll need a gen or gen-diameter dial to fit. This is one of those things we'll have to wait and see on...
  19. Honestly though, the engravings arent THAT bad, especially compared to a noob or something. They're accurate for the V-Serial too, AFAIK...
  20. Josechano, is your case an M-serial or a V-serial? TC mentioned he thought there was a difference between the two, I'm just curious which one yours is...
  21. Not so fast! I got mine and while the teeth are not as deep as the sean bezel, the finish is fantastic! It's also the proper thickness where the sean bezel is a little too thin meaning you have to grind down your crystal retaining ring or insert. I think it's bang on to an earlier sub, perhaps pre-SEL so in that sense the Sean bezel is better but Ebay does feel much more solid on the watch so I think there are many factors to consider.
  22. I cracked under the pressure and ordered one for myself as well! I wanted to grab an insert and I figure I'd get the whole kit with the spring and bezel too. I'll compare it to my Sean case bezel when it gets here and let you know what it's like!
  23. I'll be really curious to see what that ebay bezel is like, I've put off ordering one for awhile and if it's good I might have to bite the bullet!
