  1. I just sent a mail to Jay @ Silix, telling him that the movement stopped working. I asked him if he would be willing to replace it, or possibly give me credit towards a Swiss - SFSO. We will see what happens. If you guys are interested I'll keep you updated. I am hopeful that he will do something since the watch is only one month old.

If Jay wants to have the watch back, that may cost almost as much as getting a new Japanese movement installed.

If you were near Toronto Canada, my watchsmith installes them for $50.00 all in. I have had him install 4 in various watches. All rolexes, 3 were for friends.

If you want a movement, he may send one to you with paypal. You can find someone to install it locally.

PM me and I'll find out the fine details.

    Cheers,

    RP

  2. Try silex. Nice and inexpensive.

In some respects his are as nice if not nicer then the Noob.

IMHO as I have seen and read.

I own a Noob that has an ETA movement in it, and it rocks.

Great starting point for gettin' into the rep game.

    Good luck with your decision.

    :good:

    Ya, paypal sux.

My payment for member renewl never went thru.

    Gotta try again. SOON!

  3. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I have 2 on the way.

I'll post next week after I rip into one and start the mods.

I have some relicing planned with a 2892 swap.

I can't wait!!58 bucks a pop, add some $ for shipping and your in.

    Anyone else getting some.

    Keep the post alive!

  4. Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone could let me know how much a watch maker charges per hour (a fair price and a range of prices). As a tangential question, does anyone know of a reliable watchmaker that would be willing to install an ETA 2836-2 movement into my Alain Silberstein replica?? Please let me know & thanks so much!

I'm not sure you would get a watchsmith to work by the hour, unless he were building a movement from scratch.

My watchsmith did a 2892 franken AirKing install for me which included the hands, the ring and a full service for $95.00

    That was flat rate.

    All in Canadian funds.

  5. Welcome,

The only time you will feel scammed is when you come across postings from Fliplockbuckle .

    Our so-called expert-court jester-mascot-idea guy.

You will learn, you will participate and most importantly, you will partake in the procurement of the goods that our fine established rep deasler have to offer. You will enjoy!!

  6. Cool storey, I just love happy endings.sniff, sniff.

My guy near me, built me a 2892 ETA shitenrand gelina Sub, serviced and w/proofed for 200 cdn bucks.

    No band.

Now that I have discoverd RWG, and all that it offers, he don't build nothin' for me any more.

He does still work on my stuff real cheap, but I buy most of my rep stuff on line.

He isn't too cumfy dealing with reps, but he opens up after some prodding.

BTW, he is prolly one of the biggest watch part distributors in Canada. Has EVERYTHING!

But he doesn't work with the public, only watch smiths. I guess I'm lucky. I bought a 2832 ETA from him on the bay for 80 us. I picked it up locally and the rest is history. (As well as HUNDREDS of dollars since!).

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Almost a post hijack, so sorry SteveG

  7. Long in development, the most recent and final Watchmeister v3.0 datewheels have arrived, been inspected, tested and passed with flying colors. It has taken longer than we would have liked but to achieve the desired result we had to seek out very stringently spec'ed materials and the appropriate high-end production shops using the very latest and best equipment.

Our goal was to create a cost effective, permanent, highly accurate, and easily-installed way for serious collectors to bring their watches one step closer to perfection.

Vintage fans will immediately notice that these wheels exactly duplicate vintage printing technolgy--Since, when it comes to vintage watches, we're definitely purists no "flaws" were added, to be sure, none were taken away either.

Although we have completed our initial run we will begin producing for other members within the next week or two. We will not be looking for payment until we have received and inspected the full production run. In the meantime, here are some pics to whet your whistle:

    All the best,

P.S. Stay tuned for future projects....Anyone got any Asia 7750 powered watches?

    Ready to pull on 4.

The longer we wait, the more projects come up.

  8. @ retep

Well what can I say to you Retep. Don't be that rude to newbies, specially when you don't know them.

    Newbies are the future experts.

    That is how life goes.

John Lennon said something like this "learn from the master, get better than the master, shoot the master".

Were you an expert 5 years ago ?

    Anyways, let's be concreet:

I opened all my watches so far because I have discovered what the right tool was for them.

For this one I cannot use any of the Rolex ones of course and the Jaxa doesn't do it either.

So, instead of taking the desicion of opening it with a knife (even as nice as Bergeon) and get deep scratches and eventually not be able of closing it back, I thought I might ask for your advices.

I read the threads here for around 5 weeks, with an average of 3 to 5 hours a day (yup, I'm very motivated in being an old newbie one day).

I already sent a watch to The Zigmeister that you mention in your reply, which shows I "discovered The Zigmeister on the board" .

So yes, I'm a newbie, and yes I did regulate all my Rolex and Pam so far myself (2836/7750).

In this case, I couldn't find a more secure way of doing thing about that watch but ask the board.

Hope this reply will show you that I didn't want to [censored] anyone off but only wanted to make sure I wouldn't ruin one of my watches case.

I sincerely hope that you will come back to me with some tips.

    Cheers

    Stephane

PS: thanks for Birdman's reference. I ordered some tool from him a couple of days ago, and, for sure, will order more from him once we've established a good relationship, which I'm sure will be the case.

@ alligoat: thanks for your advice.
