  1. Accept MacBook pro is the best focking lappy there is. Take it from a person who works 50% of the time on Windows and 40% on Linux based machines
  2. From a visual point of view, what I like about Tag is that their line and design is extremely distinguishable. You can spot Monaco / Grand Carrera / Aquaraces from a mile even if you don't know what model it is, you know It's Tag Heuer. I like that about this company. There are too many lookalikes in this industry and only a very small proportion of companies are trying to create uniquely designed pieces. I absolutely agree with By-Tor about the quality. You don't have to understand watches to know that you're holding a piece of highly sophisticated and precisely crafted product in Tag. Just take the Grand Carrera for instance - the watch oozes quality. This is something, with all due respect, I can not say about Dayjust II. I know it's quality watch because it's Rolex, but it doesn't scream quality. I do think that TagHeuer somehow destroyed their horological image in favor of "likability". Their promo campaigns have been extremely fashion oriented in the past few years, parading celebs and straight up pretty faces. Don't get me wrong, Sharapova is one of my favorite athletes and I respect DiCaprio's work as well, but having them present you brand leads to definition of the brand as fashion oriented. Having said that I do see some billboards around lately that focus on the horological values of the brand. I like this direction, as with all due respect to Tag or LVMH, Heuer has always been one of the cornerstones of the watch industry.
  3. Just called my new watchsmith, (cool 70+ year old fella with eyes of a 20 year old) He thinks that at least 4 different versions of the bezel exist + 2 "service" versions that he knows of, but he's not 100% sure. Disregard my MK1 remark, obviously it isn't. Anyway out these: gen on the left, service on the right:
  4. Don't take my word for it but this is how the older gen looks like (note the "hour" spacing and the 4 tail in 140). on more recent MK1 the 4 tail on 140 is not connected, but the font is sharper (the "hour" is more evenly spaced as well)
  5. Thanks for helping me out, Mike. As a rule of thumb I have to disregard all sec @6 and sec @12, If I wanted a quality rep movement, right?
  6. The only problem in my opinion is if Prospex is a younger person, Rolex may be too old school for him/her. In this case Sinn would be a perfect choice.
  7. Ha, this is exactly what I wanted to write, Jkay! if you going for a rep divers watch you can't go wrong with the DSSD. Truely amazing OOTB rep.
  8. I don't think they replicate seikos. But there are some great watches to choose from with similar design. Sinn U2 is a great choice, though, especially the ones with the updated sunken ar capsule.
  9. I agree, almost all gen watches are stupidly overpriced. If Steinhart can make a good watch with their own "in-house" design and stock ETA under $700, everyone can. If you are "Omega", you are most welcome to double on that, but anything else is just company's greed. On the other hand when we talk about automatic in-house movements I accept that the investment in R&D is high and the companies need to return such an investment. Yet again if you sum all the materials, work, investment up and double the price for "brand" you will never get even close to asked price. My point wasn't whether I like quartz or not, I don't, but it's not an issue here. My point was that slapping a $2000 pricetag on a watch with a $20 stock movement is outrageous. I can assure you that the case isn't worth $1800, you know what I mean?
  10. Thanks Mike, The Aqua does look very good. I'm looking for something less flashy. I think I like dressy chronos more, if you know what I mean. I would consider a Panerai, but there are so many versions, frankly, I feel a bit lost.
  11. I think they retail at around $2800 - $3000, I think I've seen one on ebay a few months ago, but it wasn't nearly as beautiful as this one. They are rare, though
  12. I think you meant 20th century Although many late 19th early 20th century wrist watches were indeed adapted pocket watches (the wrist watch fashion was in it's infancy then), this one was made as a wrist watch. Because pocket watches were still popular then, we still see the protective cover design on some of the pure wrist watches from that era.
  13. Oh, my... This is so simple and beautiful! What an amazing movement for a 100 years old watch. A true benchmark for all those so called "vintage collections" out there, (Yes I'm looking at you IWC) PS love vintage pieces, most are unwearable unfortunately, but even looking at them is very satisfying imho.
  14. Hi there, I'm looking for a good OOB chronograph to add to my small, microscopic even, collection. I'm looking for something that will not need any obvious mods and has a reliable movement. Currently Ebel 1911 is high on my list , as well as the Radiomir 288K, which is almost the only Panerai I like (I'm not sure what I like about - the design or the fact that it's an accurate rep), but I'm seeking advise as to what is considered to be a good chronograph from the latest dealer's models range. Any advise will be highly appreciated
  15. WOW... WW1 Rolex hunter!!!! Where did you see it? Edit: do you have a movement pic, it must be amazing to that era.
  16. Agree, the new AquaTerra GMT is eye popping. Fresh, without loosing its identity and updated with co-axial caliber 8605/8615 GMT movement (this is so going to be repped!) http://www.monochrom...ment-explained/
  17. Omega PO quartz is not a "high-end" watch. It's an overpriced piece of junk with idiots as owner. Producing it is compared to selling a plastic bag with LV insignia on it for 3000$, and owning one - to cutting a hole in such a bag and wearing it to work as a shirt. Frankly speaking I'm a bit disgusted by Omega's pricing of that watch. I support what freddy said on this topic. If all you need is a cheap watch that resembles the original, but not in an accurate manner, and keeps great time - by all means buy a quartz. I think it's a good solution for someone who doesn't want to spend on a watch and doesn't require design accuracy.
  18. I think that 4813's are less reliable. If you'll be wearing the watch on a daily basis or frequent rotation, ETA is a much better choice.
  19. Tag Heuer has strong advertisement campaigns all over the world and I think most people buy them because of it, without realizing that Heuer is not just a pretty face, but also a respectable watch company. Most noticeable is their contribution to inventing the automatic chronograph back in 60's as a joint Heuer-Breitling (and to some extent Hamilton) partnership.
  20. Please Pho, this isn't worth it. Especially not worth loosing you, man.
  21. Maxman, I believe that you're referring me as an author of "fake toys" remark. Don't be shy, man, I'm not easily offended and you can definitely point me out. You need to understand, I didn't mean to devalue our hobby, nor did I mean to underestimate any contribution to this thread or any other. I am a rep collector, just like you, Pho or Wetwork. We are all extremely passionate about watches in general, reps, and PO specifically. Just like many here I value a good rep (and as I've written previously, perhaps even more than a gen). My intent was solely to bring this wonderful thread back to topic and try to cool down an extremely heated conversation between two individuals I, personally, value.
  22. THE best DSSD review here. Thank you, vandal. I'm far from being a Rolex aficionado and can't believe I'm saying it, but I really want a Rollie. DSSD is definitely on my list now
  23. Ok, guys, I really didn't want to respond to this thread, but this is way over the line here! Phoband and Wetworks both are dear friends of mine and I, personally, highly value their points of view and opinions. They both are invaluable for RWG as a community. They had their share of bashing which I personally regret the most, because I believe that they can actually be quite close here. Both highly opinionated, educated, knowledgeable and authentic people. There is no doubt in my mind that they will work out their differences over PM, like adults. Justasgood, I highly value your contribution to these boards as well as your opinion, we haven't spoken in person, but I have learnt much from your posts here, but as a new member to the fora and a regular joe i find your remarks highly offensive and absolutely unnecessary, moreover for me as a new member I find them to be condescending. Mills has a right for his own opinion and I suggest everyone to respect each others. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be an a$s, I just find these recent events extremely non-RWG-like and uncomfortable for me as a member. Be it Pho, Mills, Justasgood or Wetwork, we all have our our points of view. We are all adults, please, please, let's keep it this way. As a personal plead to RWG mods, please, lock this thread and make it an unfortunate hiccup of an amazing forum.
