  1. Just to add to the OPs comment....DAMN this site is so full of information! I was a licensed watchmaker for many years and I learn lots odf things here ZI never knew as well as new tricks and tips to make building, repairing and modding easier and more fun. Thanks for doing what you do to keeps good information available.
  2. The bend in the flat spring has nothing to do with securing the bezel, but is only to apply more friction to reduce the free spin of the bezel. The only thing that holds the bezel on the watch is the "click" with the crystal retaining ring. The edges are made bevelled and lock together. What wears them out is removing the bezel by pulling it off of the retaining ring. Eventually the slight bevels wear out and the bezel falls off. As far as I know the only fix is a new bezel and retaining ring. Both, not just one or the other.
  3. If you need another case I have several. Might even have a Perfect Clones case laying around. Just PM me.
  4. He has a very interesting idea of what very good condition is. Looks like it was found in a sunken ship or something.
  5. Lived in Anchorage from '56 to '62. Love everything about Alaska.
  6. The price swing is the same as with antique/vintage cars. Collectors are driving the price of junkers to ridiculous levels. A 64 1/2 Mustang sold new for $1995.00. A rusted shell with no running gear can sell now for 5 to 10 grand! Collectors are driving the vintage watch prices as well...nouveau ruche with loads to spend feel like they must have a vintage Sub and will pay any price for it. This causes the overall price to rise a=on all of the vintage watches. The sad thing is most of them aren't ever worn. They buy them and stick them in a safe somewhere. Then there are the smart folks who love the smaller 34mm Rolexes and buy then used and worn out. If you can't overhaul the movement it only costs around $500 to $700 to have it done. This includes refinishing the case. So, for less than 2 grand you have a great vintage Rolex and thumb your nose at those guys paying top dollar for junkers.
  7. It could be a problem with the dial side balance pivot. The pivot could be bent or even broken. It could also be a problem with the dial side balance jewel. It could be cracked, crooked, too dry or too tight. In any event it is a situation best left to a qualified watchmaker.
  8. I have this same timer and it is great! Eassy to use, accurate and reliable. I've had mine for about 4 years now and it is by far the best timing machine I've ever had.
  9. I have this set and it works great. All Rolex sizes fit gen cases well with no slipping. Some cartel Subs fit odd due to the caseback not being actual gen-spec. FOr DJs, AKs, Explorers they work perfectly.
  10. try these hands...DJ hands and AK hands are the same. (or close enough) http://www.ebay.com/itm/ONE-SET-OF-SILVER-DATEJUST-HANDS-WITH-LUMINOVA-FIT-ETA-2836-2824-FOR-MENS-WATCH-/351684295776?hash=item51e2047c60:g:-BoAAOSwZtJW8gcb
  11. The watch is fake and there are several serious tells that are glaringly obvious.
  12. Several gen forums will ban you if they find out you belong to a rep forum. Does it make sense? No. But it is their house and they make the rules.
  13. I have problems with some of the snobs on RWF (Rolex forum). I have little money for luxuries but I love Rolex watches (really only the 34mm sizes), so I buy gen parts and rebuild them. They are only for me and I wouldn't try to sell them as factory gens (even though they have all gen parts) yet some of these folks try to say that they are either franken watches or fake just because the factory didn't assemble them. In some cases these people get very belligerant and nasty about it. Some of my Rolexes have aftermarket straps which causes these people to go apoplectic. I figure it's my watch so I can do what I want with it. Hell, if Rolex prices were within reason I would buy factory made ones, but when a Rolex that in 1972 cost $550 now costs over $10K I will assemble my own. Snobs suck in anyh forum!
  14. I don't know where everyone is getting their watches from, but I've never gotten a new rep thast needed service. Being a former watchmaker I do look carefully at the movement once I get it, but never has one needed service whe it arrived. I have a number of reps that have served faithfully and accurately for years with never a service. They still run fine and keep great time. That said...I have bought one or two gens that were in dire need of servicing when bought.
  15. Super glue will also cause corrosion on the steel parts inside a watch. The tiny pivots suffer the most and that causes thae watch to stop until the pivot is replaced. It can fog the crystal forever ( the fumes) and if it gets slightly out of place it can freeze pivots in bearings or jewels permanently.
  16. I am a rep wearer and i currently own 4 gen Rolexes and since I got started in watches (business and hobby) I've owned 12 Rolexes besides my current 4. I wear rep watches because I like the watch. As long as it has a good movement and looks like I want I wear it. Having been a watchmaker I can respect any mechanical watch, rep or gen. I have rep Rolexes, Breditlings, Blancpains etc. I can't come up with the cash for the gens, and might tire of them before long, so I wear reps. They look good and run good and that is my reasons. ANyone who doesn't like it (my wearing reps) can lump it. Its my life and my wrist. Too many people get on a gen hangup and begin to hate reps, even if they owned them before they went gen. That is just overt elitism. A watch is a watch!
  17. Its amazing the lengths these scammers will go to. One can only hope that something similar happens to him. He sounds like a total waste of oxygen.
  18. I just have to wonder what is so special about the Avenger II Seawolf? SO there is no rep...there are LOTS of watches that aren't repped...get over it and buy what you can.
  19. I own four A34mm Rolexes. Three 5500s and one 1500. They are great looking watches and as comfortable as anything you would want. To make a comfortable watch that looks like the deitrich is a waste of effort. When all is said and done, a watch must look good if you wear it on your wrist. If its hidden in a pocket it doesn't matter how it looks, but a wristwatch must look good.
  20. My biggest issue with microbrands is the price. They are usually was more ecpensive than they should be and more than similar watches from other brands. Couple that with the lack of constancy and OC and you have reasons to buy either used or from a larger brand.
  21. My vote is fake. Granted it looks really good, but there seems to be a regulator arm to the right of the stud holder. This is not on a genuine version.
  22. Movements with ball bearing rotors (such as ETA and clones) make a lot of noise. It is the nature of the beat. Rolex, which uses a pin/jewelled bushing rotor is whisper quiet, again nature of the beast. I asked a tech at Breitling a while back regarding the noise from the rotor. I was told that the ETA based watches were just loud by nature. They (Breitling) had tried for years to design that aspect away but couldn't do it. Live with it or buy a Rolex.
  23. No. All of the DOSes were bases on IBM DOS, but had thier own variations. Every computer maker back then had thier own versions od DOS adapted for thier own computers.
