  1. The seller was super indignant. Told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that he'd just gotten it back from a "5 point inspection" and appraisal from Torneau.

This crap pisses me off so much. It's one thing to unknowingly sell a super rep that you got duped on. It's a completely other thing to try and steal money from people knowingly.

  2. I purchased this watch:http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/fs-breitling-steelfish-xl-a1739010-$1830-874706.html

Generally I check with you guys first on big purchases, but this one had all the paperwork, box, etc.

Knowing that the Steelfish is basically a super fake, I've not got a nuanced enough eye to discern whether or not this one is legit. Everything about it screams legit, except one thing: there's no serial number.

Now, there is a possible reason for this. Included in the paperwork is an original receipt for an overhaul. And I have read of people having their serial numbers polished off with overhauls of these because the engraving of the serial is so shallow.

The loom is good, and the rehaut lines up perfectly with the dial. Normally, I'd just pull the caseback and check the movement, but I don't have a Breitling tool.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Hey guys. I've had a ton of success from soliciting help here before. So I thought'd I'd try one more time. I recently bought this watch (it'll be here tomorrow):

From everything I see, I feel pretty good about it being gen. But you guys have a much better eye for detail than I. What do you all think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  4. I got a 500M from Joshua today and I really like it, except the bracelet is a bit underwhelming. However, I've owned a number of Tag gens and the bracelets have always left me a bit underwhelmed.

Well, I saw a brand new gen Aquaracer bracelet on ebay $180 and I jumped on it. Do you guys think I'll notice a big difference?

It's a tough comparison because my daily wearer is a gen Raymond Weil Nabucco and it's got the nicest bracelet on any watch you'll find - be it $100 or $10,000 (not exaggerating). So I know even the gen bracelet won't be as nice as my daily wear, but I'm hoping the $180 will prove a worthy investment.

    Thoughts?

  5. I may be a little confused here, since I'm new to rep anything. But why would someone buy replica electronics. Namely these headphones? If we are being honest, is it really more for the aesthetics and status of wearing "cool" headphones out somewhere?

I'm not being a snob, I promise. I'm just trying to see if I'm missing something.

Because for a little more than what you're paying for these reps, you could most likely get something that would blow these out of the water in terms of fidelity (or even bass response if that's your bag).

  6. I'm in Birmingham. It's a swiss movement and judging from the rotor and it's "26 Jewels" inscription, I'm guessing that it's a Sellita SW200. I'd much rather pay someone to do a gen crown/stem/tube upgrade if there's someone on the board who does those for a fee. (I'm in no way skilled enough to do it myself).

Any help in that area would be greatly appreciated.

  7. Just took delivery of a brand new UPO from Joshua. Everything is great, except I went to set the time and the dang crown fell out. And it wont go back in.

Should I just send it back? If I was planning on getting a gen crown/stem, should I just go ahead and do that now?

Since the crown has come out, the watch has been loosing time like crazy (like 1 second every 10 mins). Are those unrelated issues? Or would having the crown/stem in there fix this?

    Thanks!

  8. Actually, the new Aquaracer (with the ribbed bezel and the plank dial) is REALLY nice. I looked at a gen yesterday. Considering purchasing it. Additionally, their Calibre 1887 movement seems to be pretty good -- and it is basically an in house movement. At least in terms of what is considered "in house" by some of the lesser "luxury" brands like Breitling and to some extent IWC (though IWC does some serious modifications to their ETA base movements).

I like Tag. At first I disliked them because they're generally the starter watch for young punks who think they want a watch to show off to people. But to a lot of those guys, they know 3 brands: Tag, Rolex, and Panerai. Beyond that, they couldn't tell an ETA movement from a Japanese quartz.

The problem with that is that Tag makes a really great watch. So I couldn't hate them for long. The Carrera Day/Date is an absolute knock out. And their Calibre 16 is a pretty exceptional repurposing of the 7750.

My next gen purchase will either be a new Tag Aquaracer or a Longines HydroConquest.

Sorry if that was an overly verbose response. This is my first post. Long time lurker, first time poster. :)
