  1. The Deapsea is bad-as$ looking. It's chunky, beefy - basically a 16600 on steroids. It's hella-cool. The new Sub is pretty similar to the current one, short of the fact that the case looks a bit larger (especially the lugs). For people who complain that Rolex needs to update their models, well, here ya go. Either they needed to change some things, or leave them exactly as they were. Overall, the changes they made were pretty tame - fatter CG's, engraved rehaut, maxi-dial, ceramic inserts and larger cases. But overall, the SD and the Sub are still pretty much the same as they've always been and will be recognized in a second for a Rolex. Obviously this is a subjective topic, but I really think people are over reacting here. The YM2 these are not. SR
  2. I can't speak to the legalities of other countries, but in the US owning a replica is not illegal. It is also not illegal to hand a replica to a AD (or other jeweler) to have a bracelet resized, or look at it, or whatever, 'nor does it change anything relative to passing it off as a replica versus a genuine branded watch. No one in any jewelery store/AD has any rights whatsoever to confiscate your watch in the US for any reason. Absolutely none. Nor do the police. There is such a thing as due process here in the States. The burden of proof is on the AD to prove the watch is a replica and in order to do that, you need to start a legal process (and this doesn't start with simply taking someones watch). And at that point, the only time this would apply is if you were attempting to SELL the watch, or trade it, as a genuine. Think about it - what if you bought it as a genuine, thought it was genuine and then found out otherwise when you took it in for a bracelet resize? You will NEED that watch to prove YOUR case against the seller. The AD has no right at ALL to take that watch. Period. But again, this is in the US. I agree that it's stupid, in the extreme, to flaunt our reps to AD's. We don't need any more exposure. But at the same time - sheesh folks, relax!
  3. Just as an FYI, my watch arrived last Saturday (northeast US). I haven't had a chance to open it yet as I'm out of town for work. But since I'm going to be out of town for another week, minimum, I had my wife send it to me. I should have it by Tuesday or Wednesday. SR
  4. Interesting. And no, I'm not "flummoxed". Well, okay.. a TV tax seems weird to me, but I'm quite sure that there are taxes and other systems of revenue gathering here in the states that seem just as odd to European folks. In the end, we ALL would probably like to pay less to "the man". However, I would like to know how the detector knows whether or not you have a color tv versus a black and white? lol Thanks for the 411! SR
  5. TV detector vans? Can someone educate an ignorant American as to what this is all about?? SR
  6. Still one of the nicest reps of one of the best Omega's. I may have to look for another one soon (gave mine to my brother). SR
  7. Patience folks... If you'd done your research, you'd know that this is how it works with TTK. The upside is that you are guaranteed delivery and each piece was looked over (instead of dropshipped). Waiting a bit longer is a small price to pay for service like that, IMO. SR
  8. I'm going to have to disagree on this. Plexiglas crystals don't 'absorb' water in any way. But in my experience, Plexiglas crystals lose their seal to the case much more frequently, and with greater ease, than a glass or sapphire crystal. Based on the fact that this piece was modded with a genuine crystal, I'd look there for the leak (it may not have been a perfect fit), and then the case tube (doubt the crown leaked, but the case tube may not have been sealed very well to the case). SR
  9. Hahahaha! Oh man! It's bad enough he was wearing two of them (when he had to know they would be looking for something), but then to have them confiscated? That's just too funny. Obviously, not a real bright one, eh? SR
  10. About 12 years ago, I used to write reviews for an online magazine (a then still new concept) that dealt with PC games and gaming hardware. For the bulk of the time that we did the magazine, we didn't earn any cash, but we DID get to keep the hardware/software. We aways had a percentage of folks who used to claim we were biased, but I can tell you quite honestly that we were not. As a matter of fact, we would sometimes (mostly from the smaller software houses) be told that we weren't going to get anything further due to a poor review, but with the hits we were getting, only a handful actually followed through. Frankly, I think most folks will have a problem with this because: 1) They're jealous. 2) If it comes from an unknown reviewer If it's coming from a veteran member like Pugs, I think we can safely assume the review is unbiased. A member like that has given SO much to this community that many of us could add up all we've contributed and not scratch the surface of what Pug's has done for our hobby. And all of those prior contributions were for the benefit of this community. Overall, ya - we need to police this if someone like a Fliplockbuckle were to do it. From a trusted vet? Hey, I'm all for it! Nice review, Pugs. SR
  11. Looks fantastic! I'm 'sorta' done with my Franken 16014. I've still got to come up with a way to attach the dial to the movement (I bought dial feet from JB and will experiment on a throw away dial with some different epoxies). Right now, its just being held together with the movement clamps (a real PITA lining up the date window when putting it together this way!). You mentioned that you used a plastic movement spacer - have you considered a steel/brass one instead? I used one from a Yachtmaster rep that I no longer had any interest in and it worked great. The inner diameter is already correct for the ETA movement, so all I had to do was remove some material from the outside of the spacer until it fit the 16014 case. Bought some movement clamps and re-used the screws from the Yacht and it works great. I'll try to get some pics posted soon. Again, nicely done! SR
  12. TTK, Payment has been made and auth number sent via PM. Once again, thanks for the great GB! SR
  13. TTK, Moneygram and my bank do not seem to like each other, so I'm just gonna drop payment with Western Union. Is there anything different, procedure-wise, using WU versus MG? Thanks, SR
  14. Just as an FYI, I'm waiting on the deposit's that Moneygram is making to my account so I can complete the registration process. Sorry to be part of the holdup, but as soon as I get those deposit amounts, I can complete the registration and send the payment. Thanks again, TTK. SR
  15. Guess I should have read the whole thread first, eh? Thanks for offering it though. Much appreciated! SR
  16. Count me in for a 16610. I got rid of all my black Rollie sports watches and I find I miss having one. Thanks for the GREAT GB, TTK! SR
  17. Yep, those are the ones I've got on order as well. For some reason, they seem to be having difficulty figuring out what they are? At least I know that when I do get them that they'll be the right ones. Thanks!
  18. Yep, the stick hands are what I'm looking for. I found them on Jules Borel's website as well, but they sent me an invoice stating the order "requires research". I even spoke to them on the phone (I also ordered dial feet and movement clamps) and explained what I wanted, but nothing so far. SR
  19. I've got a Sub hour and minute hand for a 2836/24-2, but no seconds hand. If you can use 'em, let me know. SR
  20. I looked for nostalgia2000 on E-bay, but the user I found has no feedback (there is another user that has a similar name - nostalgia001). Is that the correct user? Thanks!
  21. I'm putting together a 16014 Frankenjust (Gen case, crown, dial and bracelet with an ETA 2836-2 movement), but I'm having problems sourcing hands. I've tried Jules Borel, but they are having a hard time locating the correrct pieces. I thought I found some on E-Bay, but the seller doesn't have any (despite the auction showing 12 available). Does anyone know where I can souce a set of white hands?
