First thing I do when I pick up a watch that I haven't worn for a while is give it a good winding, I run the hands past 12 to determine AM/PM, then set it to the correct time (having hacked the second hand at 12:00) Once the time is set I adjust the date, provided I am nowhere near midnight of course. I am now ready to go! exception to the rule: I pick up the watch, slap it on my wrist and wear it for a couple of hours around the house without making any adjustment. After some time has passed it is nice and wound up, I remove the watch and start into the first procedure, skipping the winding! This is one of those interesting questions that exposes the small idiosyncrasies that set us all apart.

Fred, that Z (I'm Canadian but refuse to call it a Zed!) is beautiful, from now on you'll have to treat it with the respect it deserves, a nice gentle hand wash.

I'll have to take a look Mike! I just went over to look at sgt's Planet Orient, I now want one, love that orange bezel (probably why I'm wearing my PO right now)
-
No Orient but I have always liked the look of them, they are classic and just different enough from the sub. I have a couple of Invictas, both with the Seiko NH35A movement (manual wind/hacking) and they are fantastic for the price. holding them up to a $300 rep though and they are quickly put to shame, the bracelet is cheap and light feeling, no AR and no saphire crystal, they just can't stack up in the looks department.

Sorry to hear about your Z Freddy, I think I have caught glimpses of her in a couple of your wristies. That is a stunning car and I'm sure it looks as good as new now!

I seem to have aweful luck with cars, this one in particular but judging by some of your tales you have all had similar bad luck. I agree that this wouldn't be a problem if I just drove a beater, or just didn't care about what the car looked like, a part of me wishes I could just pick up an old sunfire again but even then, damage like this would have bothered me. I am definitely a back of the lot parker, don't double park or park on a 45 or anything, but I like to park where there is far less foot traffic walking between the cars and where someone is less likely to be squeezing in beside me. I broke my own rule last night, I grabbed a spot close to the door and inbetween two cars that were likely to be leaving before me and I paid for it. Back of the lot, day or night, rain or shine for me from now on.

Through the clearcoat, through the paint and down to the metal in some spots! This was contact that you would definitely know you made while backing out of your parking spot. Probably looking at door skin replacement and new paint for both passenger side doors. I agree, $1000 is nothing to scoff at, I'd much rather keep my hands on that money.

Ha, ZK - I actually get that a lot, not sure why, oh well. Talked to the insurance and a hit and run goes under collision which is a $1000 deductable rather than my usual $300 for incidental. When I found realized it was going to be $1000 bucks I immediately thought about the watches I wouldn't get to buy with that grand! SGT - that sounds a lot worse than what this person did but I've already started sluthing and should be able to figure out who hit my car. Hockey game between two towns (all minors, so their parents would be driving) just show up to the next game they play and look for the damaged minivan and hope the driver isn't a big dude!

Why in general do gen watch owners hate reps ?
icoopernicus replied to alterego's topic in General Discussion
Yay, this topic is back, cool! You have to be annoyed that the guy with the $300 Panerai REP gets exactly the same satisfaction from that watch that you get from your $8000 Submariner! So they bag on reps, their low quality and blatant flaws while they see reps everyday and have no idea that they are looking at anything less than a gen. Ever see a rep/gen comparison video on Youtube, half of them have some guy holding a $30 street corner sub with a 21600 movement and a broken bezel up against a gen, they would crap themselves in the presence of a UPO straight out of the box, no mods! or a PAM005, hell even the questionable accuracy of the 116610 reps would blow them away. I don't feel better when I wear a gen over a rep and I don't feel better wearing a rep of a $10000 gen than I do when wearing an actual gen. I get the same satisfaction from all of my watches because I just like wearing nice watches and wearing reps allows me to wear many different watches, in many different styles without completely breaking the bank. That said, Goddammmmm I need me that new Ceramic Planet Ocean! Oh and a Flyback Panerai Luminor, yeah yeah, that's the ticket! And I want a Calibre 17RS Grand Carrera, but that's all I need, as long as I get those I'm set. Those and maybe a new DateJust..... I think you get the picture. Yay, this topic is back, cool! Let me preface this little tale with the following qualifier, I take care of all of my things and this extends beyond just my watches! I love wearing luxury watches, I like having nice clothes and a nice laptop, nice cell phone, nice shoes and nice cars. I'm not one for weathered, worn out, beaten up and used, I like everything to look like it just came off the shelf, like I just pulled it out of the box or drove it off the lot. I wash my car every week (in the summer, winter is a crap shoot of salt and sand on the roads) and I regularly clean my watches and cell phone to keep them free of finger prints and other smudges. Is it a little OCD, maybe, but I don't think so, I just take pride in my things and was proud that after two years of use, my old iPhone 4 was still in mint condition (seriously, I mean mint!). So it should follow that when I park one of my nice cars (nothing special, but still nice) in a parking lot I park further away from the exit, in a low traffic area where someone is less likely to park right next to me. This is done in an attempt to avoid scratches and dings from careless folk whose doors are opened more carelessly than mine, or whose belt is dangling with keys, cell phone holster, and other things that I wouldn't be caught dead clipping to my belt I do this because my car looks best when it's shined up from a fresh wash and a wax, when the rims are break dust free and when THE DOOR DOESN'T HAVE A 5 FOOT LONG SCRAPE RUNNING DOWN THE PASSENGER SIDE BECAUSE, WHILE SOME ASS HAT OUT THERE CANNOT DRIVE, THEY ALSO LACK THE DECENCY TO LEAVE A NOTE TO COVER THE INHERENT COST OF REPAIRING THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER DOORS OF A LUXURY VEHICLE! Sorry for the typographic yelling, I'm just really upset by this and currently want nothing more than to track this person down and confront them, why the hell should they get away with causing that much damage to my car? I want their insurance to cover this, I want them to cover my deductable and most importantly I want them to be held responsible for their wreckless and careless operation of a motor vehicle! I'm at work now but I'll update with some pictures when I get home tonight, you should really see this scratch, it's pretty epic for a parking lot oops. I guess now I'm just off to call my insurance company and see if they will fix this one for me.

Looks killer with a little of that TLC buddy, like a brand new piece. Congratulations on the new addition.

Please help me decide! (Omega vs. Tag)
icoopernicus replied to TimeStopper45's topic in General Discussion
I need a couple more of those fat OT paycheques to justify picking up the new Ceramic PO, 45mm, swap the case back out if a correct one becomes available and grab me a crystal from Sunny. I've been looking at everyones pics as they have been arriving and damn, I want one pretty bad! -
Haven't been to their homepage for a while but I heard from them regarding the order I placed just before the CNY. Still waiting for QC pics though.

Is that a fantasy Monaco? Of the two watches you have shown, Ceramic Planet Ocean all the way! Find a good rep of the Monaco chronograph and we're having a whole new conversation. -

Take a look on the home page, there is a sub forum for each of the trusted dealers. Most of these dealers carry basically the same products, prices vary a little and service may vary as well. If you go with any of the dealers listed as trusted on this forum then you will not be disappointed. When you know what kind of watch you might want to get, search the brand forums for reviews of the different reps to find a good one.

Just purchased the last one for the wife, diamond bezel, being CNY I am waiting patiently for the deal to continue with QC pics. This watch looks really close to gen but its hard to tell from the pics alone. Model number on case back is wrong, case thickness is wrong and diamond quality is yet to be determined (probably very low). That said, there are very few tells and this is an uncommon model that shouldn't raise too many eyebrows.

Why a $10 casio keeps better time then a $10.000 rolex
icoopernicus replied to gmtlover's topic in General Discussion
I'm such an apple fanboy I don't even know where to start, it's a little pathetic really, but I will NEVER buy an iWatch, I have literally zero interest in an apple watch! I even own one of those iPods that people were wearing as watches and would never purchase a strap to turn it into a watch, where would I put my real watch? My girl is the same way, winding and resetting a mechanical watch is enough to keep her from wearing it. I on the other hand enjoy winding my watches, setting them to the atomic clock and seeing how accurate they stay over the week. I love unscrewing the crown and winding the the mainspring, not just when it needs to be wound but sometimes because its fun. I understand why the majority of people will always only wear a quartz watch but I feel that many of them will never understand why I wear a mechanical watch.
