Just spoke with him, he was out of town and is backed up. Great guy, great work!
-
Oh okay. I actually do have his phone number. If I do not hear from him after the holiday weekend I will try to call him.
-
I have not heard back from Phong in a couple weeks and my watch he is working on was supposed to be done over a week ago. I am starting to get worried because he has some very expensive parts of mine and I cannot reach him. I hope I am only being paranoid!
Has anyone heard form him lately?

Phong is hard at work. I will be sure to share once she is complete!

Just out of curiosity is there a link for Tonny's website?
I don't think he has a website, but his email is tonnynguyen94@gmail.com

It will be going into a 6265 phong case, yes.

I'm not liking the Tony Rolex crown very much. We all have a tendency to blow pictures up and see tiny details, but even shrunk to something like life size it seems blobby and not distinct. Yet looking at a real dial online, the way the oyster and cosmograph are spaced seems better on the Tony dial.
that is EXACTLY what I was thinking.... perhaps I can get my local watchsmith to swap coronets before I send it off to phong to complete...

Which PN Daytona looks better (in your opinion) for my 6265?
I recently bought a great V72 6265 from another member and I am looking to swap dials for a Newman.
On the left, an old DW with gen coronet. (Note: dial feet must be cut to fit a V72 so there is an added level of difficulty).
On the right, a Tonny (Singapore) V72 dial.
Opinions?

Additional photos.....
Will the dial on the left even fit a V72? Feet look too short...

F!! I would have bought that 6265 in a heartbeat.......

I am not as impressed with the phong dial as I thought I would be...somewhat of a dark tint and the font just looks off to me. but hey better than anything else I could find!
-
Just as an FYI, iIf it's Watchaddict you are talking to, he can't sell you the silver dial because he sold it to me.
hahaha Dammit! I have been messaging him since he posted and he has not responded to any of my messages!?

Is there a reason your watchmaker did not just cut the stem to proper length (for your case)? That is a very common task.
He tried cutting down two stems, still couldn't get this to fit. I am a bit of a novice when it comes to watchmaking but given phong's v72 expertise I'm sure he can figure this out.

Nice built but i still Think that the First DW dial Old Batch were better...

I agree! This dial has too dark of a tint to it. Daytona font is a bit off but I can live with that. I am trying to find an old DW for a v72 but they are hard to come by! A member is selling a Franken 6263 in the sales section with an extra silver dial I am trying to get but can't convince him to split it up for me!

thank you! I just sent to phong, I'm sure he will be able to figure it out.
any comments on the build? I feel like the dial has too dark of a color, but it was the best I could find!
-
Yes the stem fits when it is not in the case, the donor watch was an old jules jergensen.

Sending it to phong in the morning if anyone can figure it out he can!

I found a V72 on eBay, and got my local watchsmith to put it in a phong 6263 case along with phong dial/hands. However, he cannot get the stem to fit. The (phong) stem is either too long or the movement is sitting too high (or low) in the case so the stem cannot make it all the way in. Excited to get this complete after months....
Anyone have a suggestion on a watchsmith that can finish the job? I am waiting on a quote from Phong but I know his work is rather expensive. I'm located in Texas. Thanks in advance!

very nice. you should probably just sell it to me now.

It will not work.
You should save and get a phong case...
Exactly what I did.... Will keep you updated!

Calling on the modders/experts here....
Does a DW 6263 case with a 'mystery movement' accept v72 case parts? For example, Vietnam dial, NY bezel, etc.? Further, how difficult and expensive is it to get a modder to put a V72 movement in a DW MM case?

I would agree with the others on not throwing a lot of money at a DW 7750 based Daytona.
If you want, you could buy a gen 7835 bracelet, gen T-21, and gen crown/tube, which could all be swapped over to a v72 based build if you decide to pursue it later.
To this point... Is this a good V72? I feel like this is a good price. Question is, will it fit the DW case...
-
Great advice here..Thanks!
-
Interesting, thanks panerai153 and freddy333 ! I guess I need to just be a little more complacent with the DW and just get the stem fixed! I have a clark 21 ready to be swapped so I will just send it along with the watch to get serviced.
I will however be starting from scratch on a 6265. I have zeroed in on the dial I want to use (Phong) I just need a case to start with, without breaking the bank! If anyone has a link to where I can find a cartel case, please post!
Thanks again!
