  1. For any of those affected by this tragic situation wether that be through someone close to you or through an aquaintence or even just the sorrow one feels for these young kids my heart goes out to you, thoughts and prayers coming from Australia today.

Kenberg, thank you for the sentiment. My sister graduated from that school, and it is truly ragic what happened. I didn't get a chance to read all the posts, but i hope people don't start saying, "Gee, if only we had gun control"! We have major gun control, esp. at Va Tech (no guns allowed on campus) and what did it get them?

  2. To the first point, why if Tag and Omega deign to make quartz watches can I not find one in the rep world? I mean the rep 1st world, good case, bezel, strap, etc.

Regarding the second point, as I stated in my original post quite clearly, I can absolutely appreciate the beauty of a complex mechanism as quasi-art in itself. But your analogy doesn't work. My quartz and your automatic watch perform exactly the same function- telling time accurately (I don't care what you say about mechanical beauty, without accuracy there's no argument). A racing sloop and a jet ski both sit in/on the water and transport occupants. But they are clearly different animals, more dissimilar than similar. The same cannot be said for automatic and quartz watches. They look identical on the wrist, save that only one has a sweeping second hand.

And as far as soul, which most responders continually highlight, I'm guessing nobody here would give a rats ass about a Timex GENUINE watch with "soul". We're not here for the boundless love of mechanical beauty alone, not even a little bit. I'd guess the average genuine version of the timepieces advertised on our dealers' sites would run into the thousands of dollars. Associated with those dollars is a perceived lifestyle complete with J Class racing, vintage wines, classic European automobiles and the like. So don't dump all over me because I want an accurate watch that looks and feels the way the quality rep autos do. Most folks here are playing at being wealthy, myself included, by virtue of the names on our wrists.

And Deep Blue (or for that matter, an Intel Pentium 2) doesn't have a heartbeat, date girls or care about the beauty of quantum theory, again not an analogy I find compelling.

    Honestly and Forthrightly,

    Chris

    Well said. :thumbsupsmileyanim:
  3. The only watch where this could be relevant is the Accutron 214 or 218. And this has nothing to do with the oils - it has to do with gravity upon the tuning fork pawls agains the main gear.

I have a vintage Accutron I no longer wear; it only needs a battery. Is there possibly a buyer out there?

  4. There is no reason to spend $100,000 or more on an education than to have a successful career. No one goes to school, gets an MBA and works at Mcdonalds just to say they had a character building experience. No matter what anyone says, money is the biggest motivator. Anyone who says otherwise is broke or full of [censored].

I can assure you it didn't cost me or my family $100,000 for my education, but then again I had a partial scholarhip.

  5. Since you said you already have the exact model as a gen, id personally stick with the lower model. Key differences as you said includes an overhauled movement. If your gonna be banging it up a lot why spend a lot a money, espically if you have a gen of it already. If your going to really spend a lot of money on a rep like that, go for an MBW and start modding it up. It would look exactly (gen parts) like your other one and you wont feel that bad when you damage it one way or another.

Worse comes to worse, buy a couple of the cheap ones if your gonna be "destroying" watches during the work week ;)

Good advice, and great car--just got my 1st!

  6. I received the following mssg. from a dlr., and just wanted to see what you think. Should I buy the watch??

"Replica watches do not come with any guarantees. We as dealers only source the item and deliver the item.

My personal gurantee is it will reach you in working order. Once you have received the good and everything is working thats is our deal closed.

If a month later you damage bracelet or glass, there is no warranty for this. I can order new parts but this will be chargable.

Eta Movement i can give you 30 day warranty on complete breakdown. If you tell me it is loosing 1 or 2 minutes a day, then its different. This is natural."

    Thanks for any responses!
