  1. Very true, Garda Lake is somehow more interesting overall.

For the food ...it's me...I am picky, someone here would describe me as "never satisfied".

Coming from a central italian region (Emilia Romagna) doesn't help...at all.

For me the Dolomites are the best place in Italy with a plate of polenta, aged gorgonzola, some good salami, and a glass or two Valpolicella.  Heaven on earth

  2. Angus is legit. Pay him via WU. And don't worry if he wants you send payment to someone else or a different country.

He will sort you out with the item you want.

    Masmannan

So legit that he has to launder payments.  Simple fact is that no one involved in rep watches, buyer or seller, or manufacturer, is legit.  It's merely a question of the degree of illegitimacy.  Angus is probably one of the better ones

  3. I'm waiting for the G series. I'll get that one and do a comparison with my Gen.

My 89 is one of my longest-term watches I've ever owned. Had it about 3 years now and it still gets wrist time. Looks great on a NATO, or a Croc strap. It's just a very versatile watch.

I'd like to have a blue faced or grey faced PAM, either the 089 or the 091, but somewhere someone wrote of his concern with the GMT function.  None of you has mentioned it.  Should I still be concerned?  Actually, I won't use the GMT much, if ever, but I would like to add a shell cordovan strap and that's my real reason for wanting one.

  4. It may very well be available, but just not popular enough for most sellers to stock. I would inquire of a few of the sellers here to see if they can source it for you. Otherwise, search google & keep your fingers crossed that you do not get ripped off by a rouge rep dealer.

OK.  I'll be on the lookout for a transvestite rep dealer.  (Sorry, your typo was too tempting)  Actually, the prize JLC, I think, would be a good rendering of a Reverso, say the 1931 Tribute, for instance.  Just not enough interest in it but surely one of the most iconic watches ever.

  5. Ryan is a very good guy! I order from him as well. And a gen enthousiast too! (AP, Rolex,...)

He is fairly new as a watch dealer but he's very good and lightning fast!

A good guy, indeed.  I pointed out an overcharge on my CC, and, bingo, I received an e-mail saying it will be corrected.  I've ordered two APs from him and they're beautiful.  I am sure the incoming PAM 372 will also be of high quality.

  6. True!

And the reps are showing exact time.... And still they are looking good.

But even rep-enthusiasts are spending a lot of money on watches...

Oh, man, you are so right.  Yesterday I updated the list I keep of rep purchases.  Without including the value of several Rolexes I bought years ago, I have dropped a small fortune on fake watches, ranging in price from $80 for a Crazy Hours to well over $800 for a Breguet tourby.  I know some of you guys could double or triple the number of watches I have.  It kind of sneaks up on you, a few hundred here and a couple hundred there and presto, thousand upon thousands have been spent.  And I have never paid for fancy frankens or even a lume job.

  7. This is all very interesting but when push came to shove, I wanted a JLC Reverso on my 8"wrist.  I couldn't care less if it wasn't a perfect fit (actually, it looks good) because I wanted that icon for my own.  As many have already noted on countless threads, how many people really notice what's on your wrist?    Watch junkies yes, but the majority of people no.  As long as the lugs don't extend past your wrist, I say buy the watch you love, not the watch that merely "fits".

  8. Assuming the scratch is on the bezel you could try permanent black marker in the crevass? Don't laugh. :) Alternatively, if the scratch is not too deep you can take the whole top down with a dremel but only if the scratch isn't deep. I am surprised you struck white though. I have cut down a rubber bezel before and it was all black rubber (or whatever the synthetic material really is).

Thanks.  Black marker is probably the answer.  I don't know how it happened, and it might be that the white is not under the black but on top of it,  left there from whatever caused the scratch.  I tried wiping it off to no avail and now I'm afraid to use a Dremel.  Sure isn't deep.  If I wait a week or two I probably will find it tolerable, like that first scratch on a new car

  9. I have somehow managed to put a minor scratch on my AP RG rubberclad.  It's only 1/8 inches long and just a few red c*** hairs wide, but it shows white and it bugs me.  Have any of you cured a similar problem?  If so, how?  I don't want to make matters worse, but I would like to touch it up   Thanks

  10. I recently returned from an island hopping trip in the Carib where, once again, I noticed that the straps on most high end gens were painfully small.

The salespeople say that their best customers are from China, so the manufacturers are supplying small straps.  I have just bought a rep AP and the strap on that is so small I can't close it on my 7.5-8" wrist.  It's a piece of junk which I would have to replace in any case, so it's not a big deal, but now I've got my eye on another AP ROO and the seller claims it's a high quality rubber strap.  Do any of you have experience with such a strap?  Will I be purchasing a bigger replacement right off the bat?  I trust you fellows more than I do the seller to give me an accurate response.  Thanks

  11. Yes now you can definitely see it....but still a bit far to call out.  I tried to rotate the larger images and guess what?  I can't tell with the angle shots.  What one really need is a dial shot straight on to be able to properly review and approve the QC pics.

Also because the pics resolutions are weak, the white and silver can play tricks on you and may come across as 'shadows' when in fact its crappy lume.

And there's the lesson for all of us- a straight on QC picture.  I just bought a Safari and the QC pictures were good but there were marks where the bezel meets the crystal on one side of the watch.  I thought they were only reflections and asked for confirmation.  It came within minutes in the form of a clear, straight ahead picture.  Oh, I'm talking about Ryan.

  12. someone brought in an ap rep ,and the owner buys it for 5 g's, the son doubts his purchase and runs the serial # through a database and it comes out fake. they call him back in ,'cause  said he had another watch for sale ,they confront him ,he says he's been had too !  IDK !  here's the database they used but you got to pay to join.      http://www.watchcsa.com/          anyone else catch this episode?

Yes, and I do believe it was a setup.  No pawn shop owner is dropping $5K without checking out the merchandise.  He said he "louped it and it was perfect"  as if that act would determine authenticity.  The much better and interesting show is Pawn Stars out of Las Vegas where they really have some interesting items.  On the History Channel.

  13. Bosox OK 150 ,Hmm depends on your watch guy 50-75 bucks to fix no hassle sending back plus wife  bought for you............................ your call. Can they just send you another, just a thought.

Well, my wife won't mind, I just am hesitating because I really appreciate her kindness in getting it for me unrequested.  But $150 back on her credit card is not to be sneezed at.  If I thought popping the back and cleaning out a speck of dirt would cure the problem, I'd pay for the repair.  Looks like it's returning to Turkey.  I don't want to take a chance on a second one having the same problem.

  14. Bosox if it was "cheap" no idea of cost then send it back. In my experience it cost more to service than the cost of a cheap one.

You're probably right.  $150 isn't worth the effort unless it's a very inexpensive repair, but it's a nice looking watch and my wife got it for me which I really appreciate.  So I'd still like to have some idea of what the problem might be before I send it back.

  15. My wife returned from Istanbul with a nice looking rep which ran for all of two days.  It's an open heart and I can see the balance wheel working, but the hands don't move a bit.  They're not stuck in any way.  My questions are what might the problem be and how serious is it to fix?  I can reutrn it to the seller for credit or have it repaired locally, which would be my preference if the cost were not excessive.  It's a cheapo so I don't want to drop a bundle.  Thanks for any insights.

  16. If your gonna spend 15-20k on a watch, wouldnt you like to hold it in your hands? I paid 10k for my daytona and i took a cheap flight from ny to atlanta georgia for it. Worth the money for me.

Yup.  When I decided to buy a gen JLC, I e-mailed ADs in the Carib, agreed on the best price, hopped on a plane and let the savings on the watch pay for my trip.  Not always feasible, I know, but in my case it worked.
