  1. Ahh! Yes, that reminds me of the VCO

You are kidding, aren't you? I can't see any resemblance beyond them both having a winder on the right,..... and hands perhaps.

If anything resembles the AT then it is the smooth bezelled Rolex Datejust, and frankly I do not think it is nearly as elegant as the Omega.

If anyone is listening - get these made now - blue tuxedo face, solid caseback, correct clasp, and 2813 movement. Get the lume right and bugger the 'Asian ETA' incorrect anyway movement.

  2. It's bloody brilliant! Transcends all expectations and has a real twist in the tail. I'd love to give it a full review but it would be hard to without spoiling it.

Anyhoo - new PO gets a lot of screen time in the pre-title sequence, and Naomi Harris is clearly sporting a gents AT. Craig switches to the AT for the remainder of the movie, and my wife was thrilled to see Ms Harris wearing a Quadrella like her own in a later scene.

  3. :) Yep totally agree, but you know how it is with their new sales slogans, '1:1, complete teardown, 10 years in the making, all parts interchangeable with...' :D

LOL @ "10 years in the making".

I know this is taking the thread a little OT, but I just dip in and out of this scene that I was so deeply involved in 6-8 years ago, and it amazes me how the hyperbole from the so-called scam dealers that we criticised so much at the time has spread and evolved and is no longer a differentiator of 'trusty' dealers.

To think my fist proper rep was a 'closed factory' blue Seamaster 'Brosnan Bond' with genuine ETA and I only paid £75 for it (OK, so the exchange rate at the time ran at over $2/£1). Still got it too...

PS. Also got my tickets for Skyfall in 3 hours. Think I'll give the UPO an outing..... :D

  4. Not sure if we'll ever get a proper AT r11co, been bugging Angus about noob doing one, it's difficult to get info on the 8500 PO rep let alone an AT, I keep telling him they can't ignore it as it is the bond watch and will be a solid no nonsense seller, and when they've finished trying to get an sw200/a2824 to look like an 8500 for the PO, they can stick that one in an AT and double up the profits :)

Keep bugging him then :) TBH I don't give a stuff (or see the point) of making the 2824/Selita look like the 8500. In terms of accuracy it may as well have a DG2813. In fact , if it means they get it out quicker then they should bloody well put a 2813 in it..... :).

'ETA clone' is just a price markup issue these days - good for profit for the sellers but meaningless to us buyers now. I've kept my best genuine ETA movement reps to remind me of a time when it mattered......

  5. That looks awful. Sorry.

The '00'7 marker looks like it dropped off the face from somewhere else and landed there. The pattern on the dial doesn't know what it wants to be either - kind of trying to be tuxedo but going the wrong way. Just another attempt to differentiate from other Bond Specials in order to keep dipping from the obsessive fans with small brains and deep pockets.

Irrelevant anyway - I'm only interested in 'on screen' watches, so hurry up and get that AT out, guys....

  6. Breacelet is ok but clasp is wrong. Bezel is too wide (looks like it came off the green Milgauss). I was thinking more the dial which is OK if the wrong colour.

Actually - second thoughts. Hour markers are rubbish.

  7. excellent info! thanks a bunch, i guess i will give in and check out the chrono version : (

-r11co, what do you think of the smp that angus has???

Both the blue chronos (original and 2008 update) look pretty good. If these haven't changed from the models reviewed elsewhere in this forum then either is a good bet. IIRC both use screws in the bracelets but that is about the only (minor) issue other than the usual incorrect date font of the A7750 which is a relatively easy fix.

PS. Looking through Angus's site - just how many PO reps are there now!!!!?!

  8. I don't think there ever was a particularly good rep of this.

SMP rep standards have declined gradually since the heady days of the 40th Anniversary Bond rep with A2892 movement and the 'closed factory' rep with ETA2824. Neither were 100% perfect but both had SS straps that could accept genuine parts, and all the Bond needed to make it 100% was a gen bezel and dial.

IIRC all the 'reds' have been disappointing by comparison, with 1-piece end links and screws rather than the gen pin-and-tube arrangement in the bracelet and inaccurate dials.

  9. Wow everything about that first image is [censored] compared to the second image, from the background to the shave to the haircut to the pose to the suit ... everything.

....and the watch. What were they thinking combining a tux with a rubber strap...?!

  10. I'm distinctly unimpressed. I took no notice of this at launch. Now I am just thinking that Omega dug out the press for the 40th anniversary Bond SMP and turned it at a a jaunty angle, then wondered what else they could do to make the watch distinctive and came up with two rather obvious and unoriginal ideas.

I am glad that the filmakers themselves have had the confidence to loosen the product placement shackles of the Brosnan era and instead go for the most traditional and elegant and (dare I say it) Explorer-like of the Omega range, the Aqua Terra.

And why not, seeing as there'll be only one Aston Martin in the movie (and it isn't the 2012 Virage.....)

  11. Crazy thing is there are plenty people who think circa £500 for a working approximation of a replica watch is good value. These self same people used google to find some scam sites first and thought the item on ebay was a potential bargain.

Silly thing is I can remember getting 'super reps' with A7750s for $150, and landing the odd real sparkler (closed factory SMP for example) for £75. Today I won't get that sort of quality for small change out of £250, so don't be so shocked that less enlightened people these days think even crap reps are worth half a thousand pounds.

  12. This is the watch Bond should be wearing...the AT XXL

Sorry G. We go back a long way but I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you on that one for reasons already stated...

I'm really not seeing why someone who spends most of his time in tailored clothes as an undercover special agent, moving around in high society places, would want to run around with a 46 mm....
or for that matter a 49mm
...clock strapped on his wrist like he just came back from the jersey shore.

  13. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the AT one of two watches Craig is wearing in Skyfall? The PO wasn't ditched, he's just rotating watches like he did in Casino Royale. Isn't he still rockin the blue PO...?

Consider yourself corrected! First DC movie featured two watches (accidentally in one scene alternating on his wrist!) - a blue Seamaster 300m 'red' (which had just been launched and led many, myself included, to believe it was a GMT when pictures of it escaped from filming) and of course the 45mm black PO on rubber strap.

Second movie had only one watch - 42mm black PO on steel bracelet.

    Never a blue PO!

Anyhoo - I've always fancied an AT and now I've a perfect excuse to add one to the collection....

  14. I notice Jos and Andrew both have a large AT with a blue tuxedo dial in their repertoire.....

    b81dc56d24ed8c2b66481090e3a2dc65.image.800x532.jpg

It's wrong for a pile of reasons. 46mm case? - the XXL AT is 49mmm, the calendar version, which is what I think this was based on going by the engraving on the rear, is 43mm and the 'standard' size is 41.5, but incredibly a fantasy rep pre-empts the blue dial!

Put the 2813 from the back of that in the existing 38.5mm rep case and steel strap with a dial as nice as that (and a correctly coloured datewheel) and I'd be happy for starters....

    Get to it guys..... :D

  15. This is actually old new so I am surprised no-one has mentioned it here yet. James Bond's new watch for the up-and-coming movie is a tweaked version of the current mid-sized Aqua Terra. Only change is a new blue face to add to the exsting black and white line-up.

    Here it is on-set!

    DanielCraigJamesBondMovieSkyfalltakesXyKjCZ-2pn0l.jpg

Official designation is 231.10.39.21.03.001 which 'accidentally' leaked out when it appeared on an authorised Omega dealer's website before being pulled quickly afterwards.

Should be an easy and quck release for our reppers! I really couldn't give a crap about it having a SW200 or ETA2824 repica movement in it. How's about being totally honest guys and just sticking a nice cheap chinese ST18 with a custom rotor - at least the ST18 is close to the 2892 that the geniune calibre 2500 is based on.....

  16. Three of the four finds by Mr Arron Large are replicas (and not very good ones!). Just saw a report of this on BBC weekend news and they had a crew interviewing the street cleaner and the chief of the police force he handed them in to who happened to have three of the watches in question to show the camera.

Apologies for the poor quality shot as it's a freeze frame of my PVR taken with a camera (and I wasn't even viewing the channel in HD at the time - doh!)

    BBCfakes.jpg

    BBCfake2.jpg

It should be pretty obvious what is wrong with the Franck Muller and the Seanaster!! Not so obvious from the picture what's up with the Daytona but I could see it was a fake chrono with fixed subdials (they were practically flat against the dial) and you should be able to mke out that the strap has lost most of its gold plating and is a different colour to the case!!

What also alerted me was that he found them wrapped in the same perfectly sized handy polythene bags that our trusted dealers use to ship out their wares!

Here's a pic that claims to be the first of the four finds - not so sure what is 'wrong' with it but I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will tell us :D

  17. Hello again folks. Long time no see (as we say in these parts...)

Anyhoo, I've a particular reason for wanting to see this watch rep'd. It is a limited edition variant of the Chopard GTXL (a particularly fine rep example of which has been my daily beater for 3 years now, sold to me by a certain other Scot who shall remain nameless......)

    gran-turismo-xl-alfa-romeo-2.jpg

    Alfa-Romeo_2.jpg

The most part has already been done (and very well as we all know). What would need to be changed? Well, a new dial print, chapter ring and red rather than white lume'd hands. The crown also has a rather cute steering wheel spoke pattern....

    Alfa-Romeo_3.jpg

The caseback has different engraving and the display sapphire has the Alfa Romeo badge screen-printed on it...

    Alfa-Romeo_4.jpg

(Interesting aside - Stephane's review of the 7750 based GTXL rep brought up the issue of the rotor print not being fully visible from the caseback. Seems that this 'issue is in fact consistent with the gen!)

There's a chrono version too. See here.

I banged on long ago about the Oris Diver Titan being rep'd and everyone told me it would never happen, yet it did. Once again I pray (and I know you traders used to frequent these parts) - rep factories.... PLEASE :)
