  1. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I expect the outcome of the game to be dictated by where Germany and Ecuador finish in their groups..... Tactical results fixing isn't just the preserve of Seria A...
  2. I am still investigating what is involved in getting a rep crystal AR coated. Apparently any high street opticians or spectacles lab should have the equipment for doing it. Edited to add - just noticed (duh) that FinePics is offering an AR coating service!!!!
  3. (This should really be in the repairs section). Strangely enough I've started to notice 'fogging' on the inside of my 090's crystal too. It looks exactly the same problem as I had on two separate Planet Oceans (the PAM is from a different dealer, incidentally). Having cleaned the PO's out I can tell the fogging isn't caused by water ingress as the watches are watertight. It seems something is evaporating off the movement - either assembled or stored in a damp environment, or there is something strange going on with the lubricant as the fogging appears to be greasy.
  4. So the cyber-sausage is trying to play games out of school then?
  5. GO SWEDEN! Hmmm - anyone want to give me really good odds on the England v Sweden game finishing with a DRAW?
  6. Nope. It's 47" x 21" (approx), and I've got one hanging on my study wall. I can't tell for sure which model it is from the picture as the watch is halfway up his sleeve and covered in shadow, but I have been assured DC's been wearing a s/s GMT on the set for filming since they shifted from the Bahamas. I've also been told that the poster was a photoshop job by some Finnish promotions company who got a model to pose and then they superimposed Mr Craig's face afterwards, so there's a fair chance they got the prop wrong. One thing is for sure - he ain't wearing the 40th Anniversry one with his codename on the face.
  7. The rotor bearing fitment looks very much like a 289x series. The extra pushers are probably what will confuse most people and make them think a 7750 is being used, but the 289x movements have had add-on modules designed for them to add complications such as chronograph, calendar etc.
  8. Come on Scotland!!! (Jason Scotland that is....)
  9. Probably not the only thing he's had in his hands of late....
  10. You mean this poster? How you can tell the exact model from that shot I'll never know (even draped from the front of a hotel in Cannes) PS. It's the GMT...
  11. The high-end gen watch industry is an absolute racket. I have an acquaintance watchmaker who was trained within the industry but left to set up shop on his own. He says company policy for all premium watches was to charge a minimum of 10% of the retail price of the watch for any work to be carried out on it. The consequences of this policy are obvious - the charge for the same work on two different value watches is based entirely on their perception of your ability to pay.
  12. David Coulthard (F1 driver) wears one.
  13. That's even the correct ball!!
  14. <<SIGH>> It IS the 45mm black Planet Ocean. This is about the seventh or eigth time I have CONFIRMED this fact. The first time I did so was back in February on RWG1. This is OFFICIAL, not speculation. What is also official is the use of the blue faced 300m Seamaster GMT (with Co-Axial movement) in the film as well. Can we put this in a FAQ somewhere?!
  15. You'll struggle to get such a movement as it isn't a standard part. The Zigmeister once did a tutorial about adapting a Swiss ETA/Valjoux 7750 in standard configuration (12, 6, and 9 subdials, seconds at 9) using parts translplanted from an Asian 7750 made to resemble a 7753. The movement you are seeking is even more complicated. The Daytona 7750 w/s@6 is a bodge job of the highest order. Do a search in Zig's section to see why (a) it is not particularly reliable, and ( why you simply won't find one of these movements off-the-shelf. If you already have a failed one you may be able to do a transplant of the transfer wheels, but you will be entering into territory that even our most illustrious resident watchmakers have not ventured into.
  16. This is not uncommon with the 'GMT modified' 2836's and has been reported before here and in the other forums. The movement is NOT a GMT (independantly adjustable 'flick' hour hand) or even a 'pretend' GMT with a calibrated extra 24-hour hand. It is a day-date movement bastardised to approximate the look of a GMT, and nothing more. As a result of this the operation of the 'GMT' hand is unpredictable and many many people have experienced it running out of sync. It seems to be something they have no choice other than to just put up with. It's been said before and I'll repeat it here - the GMT reps with 2836s are testament to why sometimes choosing an ETA movement as a priority over having a movement that is functionally accurate is a BAD (and I would say ignorant) choice. There are some excellent Asian GMT movements in our reps that function as GMT because that is what they were designed as, yet people poo-poo them and opt instead for this bodge of a movement. One of the principle real (as opposed to perceived or brand snobbery) benefits of ETA movements over other reliable and well known alternatives (Miyota, Seagull etc) is the availability of replacement parts to aid servicing. This benefit is lost with the 'GMT modified' 2836 as the basic movement is taken away from original spec by the addition of custom parts that are not available outside the rep factories. The Zigmeister posted this fact in a reply to a previous thread on this same subject.
  17. It is no more 'ultimate' than the same piece sold by at least half a dozen other dealers in the last 4-6 months. Paul's pricing is good at the moment though.
  18. Avoiding obvious wannabees like Invicta and RXW, I once owned a Lucerne watch that looked suspiciously like a DateJust.

A cure for recessed cannon pinions though..... I'll get my coat.......
  20. ..probably have the most disposable income of all of us, especially if they are in gainful employment. my brother still stays 'at home' amd owns a hi-fi system that is worth more than my car!! My cousin and her husband still live with her mother, and she drives a Mercedes M-Class. She's a schoolteacher. I made the point of this thread a few days ago (search for 'Us Poor Folk'). Oh, and Pug - I have a rep of that same watch and I keep it for the irony of the whole thing!! Apart from the movement and the giveaway weight, it is probably the most visually accurate rep I own.
  21. The Co-Axial. Omega would have run with the 300m SMP professional blue they'd used in the last three movies (continuity of props!), but they wanted to showcase the Co-Axial movement in their promotional material and the Co-Ax version of that watch is not yet on the market. Without giving too much of the plot away, the Planet Ocean will feature in the major action elements of the first half of the movie, the SMP GMT taking over for the 'tuxedo' scenes and the slower paced stuff later on. The draft of the script I saw even had dialogue between James Bond and one of the characters where the watch brand is mentioned by name. Dunno if that'll make it into the movie though...
  22. A very accurate summation of the Italian squad, unfortunately.. (But, hey - England have problems with Rooney and Gerrard and they planning their victory celebrations already...)
