  1. Thanks for the extensive feedback. you've clearly investigated this quite a bit. I was considering this a thought experiment about what's within the realm of possibility, rather than trying to pass it as a gen 203.

Having it look precisely like a 203 wouldn't be an objective of mine, rather having a truly custom watch that's uniquely my own. I love the Fiddy shape and style. It would be pretty sweet to have a 47mm with domed crystal, but without the generic 6497 movement. Plus we know that the angelus fits - with the caveats mentioned.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

  2. This would seem to be a very interesting project for a watchmaker/enthusiast to take on.

Buying a 203 as a mere mortal would seem impossible, but all of the parts seem reasonably available - just at a cost.

So to my novice eyes, it would appear you need need the rep 203 case (or 127, perhaps better crystal?) and the Angelus calibre 240 movement (had for a couple grand it appears). Presumably there's significant work necessary on the movement to conform to the 47mm case, but what do I know....

So for perhaps less than the price of a new gen Panerai, I could create a custom similar to the $100k Pam 203?

    Thoughts?

  3. Thanks for the tip on the glue. I ordered some Loctite 242. Hopefully that'll work. After some more research, the sapphire does appear raised. I worked on it for a while with a jewelers hammer. That seemed to do the trick to set it in place. Still working out the polish stuff.

  4. I have a Noob DSSD (thanks Angus!) and was wondering what other owners may have done about some of the flaws I've noticed. First, I believe the sapphire may be sitting high. Could an expert here confirm this:

Also, the screws on the band are a bit squirrelly. They counter sink, extend out the back, aren't polished, are loose, etc. I bought some polishing gear for my Dremel. Any suggestions here? I've been thinking about using a smidge of lock-tite on the screw threads to prevent them from falling out.

This picture doesn't quite capture the ugliness. Lastly, does anyone have suggestions on how to waterproof the case? I opened the case back and noticed a rubber seal. Is this good enough? I don't have enough confidence to do the half hour dunk test yet.

    Thanks,

  5. Hello,

I could use some help from the experts in this group who can spec a watch band rod for a Luminor GMT rep. It looks non-standard to my eyes - please see the photos below.

The holes on the left side of the watch are threaded:

And the right side has no threading or taper:

Here's the back of the case for reference:

Thanks for any help you could give on finding replacement rods. The watch is useless to me until I get this fixed!
