The soft brass was intended to dent on purpose to absorb the impact of banging on rocks, guns, etc. same with the soft alloy "German silver" lol. The bezel was always meant to be disposable and replaceable quickly.
I am still too lazy to change the date. Why does one need a date on a sea-dweller anyways? Is there a pressing need to make calendar entries while diving for conch shells?
It's been awhile since I've done a project for myself. But the first piece is on it's way: Haven't decided on the other details yet, but gotta start somewhere I guess. Stay tuned.
From what I understand, some were made from "German silver", while others were 2-piece (brass on top of steel). Many of these did not survive. So some have used 1665 bezels as replacements: http://www.watchprosite.com/?page=wf.forumpost&fi=732&ti=503086&pi=3040201
Weird. Wearing mine for the first time in over a month. 18 years old and almost no stretch. Just don't wear it enuff. I don't think omega bracelets are very expensive. Today of all days, after 18 years of ownership, I noticed the SMP has two, yes two, inside lug holes. Huh. Never knew that. Must be there for using leather straps I guess.
I believe the LF is the new name for the previously SA3135 factory. I think this is the V2 version and has typically been fraught with peril as it has been unreliable. But maybe it has improved in the last year. It is not the same as the Yuki. One issue with the LF/SA3135 movements is the proprietary stem that is used. Once it breaks, you cannot find a replacement since it's not gen spec. But I could be wrong. Regardless, the gap between gen and rep is closing for sure. Congrats on the new timepiece.
If you have unlimited wealth! I'm sure the €20k price for the first one is negotiable! Needless to say, shipping is included. What a deal. http://www.network54.com/Forum/207673/message/1449932824/FS+Extra+Rare+Submariner+Insert%21%21%21
I've installed gen assemblies several times. The hard part is getting the crystal retaining ring on first. It's extremely thin, so not much room for a bezel press attachment to grab onto. Once that's on, the bezel snaps right in. The bezel requires a very thin hytrel/Teflon washer that is actually the part securing the bezel to the retaining ring.
I don't think that's a 1675 insert. I believe that's a sapphire gmt (16710/16760/16700) insert that has a slightly narrower outer diameter and wider inner diameter relative to the 1675/16750 inserts. If you measure it, the correct dimensions of a 1675 insert is: OD: 37.75mm ID: 30.2mm
