  1. What do you mean by "lumeless"? That the luminous material has fallen out completely, or that it no longer glows? If it simply does not glow anymore, I would definitely leave it as is. Once you relume, you have destroyed its value. Which model Tudor is it?
  2. Maybe I'm just a simple guy, but whenever I go to Boston, I make sure to go to Legals Seafood.
  3. It has a gen 1520. I think your choice for a movement is dependent on the dial you choose to use. If this is just an interim build, until you find the gen you are patiently waiting for, then stay on budget with a 2824 IMO. Yuki will have the adapter ring suitable for the case. I dont have any experience with a 2873, so cannot comment.
  4. With some work, the Yuki case can be very good.. but it takes alot of work to get it right as she is a pig to start. Bezel is marginally acceptable..its a touch thick. Insert is not very good and should be replaced with a gen insert, which will always retain its value. Crystal is OK.. not a bad imitation of a T19 superdome... Case does NOT have a groove under the retaining ring. Here are some pics of a Yuki case build I recently completed for a fellow member: Yuki caseset out of the box: Before any casework, compared to a gen case (gen on left): After some casework, polishing/weathering, gen insert/gen dial/CWP hands/CWP crystal:
  5. Bill did a great job on that dial. I don't think there are many places one could get a dial like that made.
  6. Counter to intuition, when the brass plate base dial is too polished, the gilt effect is less "golden" and consistent.. So the plates were usually "satinized" prior to the galvanic black layer was applied. The satin finish created a much more pleasing effect under all lighting conditions. But back in the early '60's, this process was not a science and the satinization process varied from dial to dial
  7. Looks good to me.
  8. The caseback gaskets on reps can sometimes be improperly installed and as a result, will be pinched. This will compromise the integrity of the waterseal. If you open it up, you might find that to be the case. If not, either the tube/crown or crystal gasket are to blame. Either way, I would not panic. open it up and get a bowl of rice and/or silica gel packs and let it sit for a couple of days.
  9. Yup. Pretty much .. That's a pic of a used one... No spring collapse whatsoever
  10. Kinda overdid one of the CGs
  11. I have a couple of spare sets. Whenever I order from them, I tend to get a few extra.
  12. My suggestion is the Bergeon 6085 satin finish wheel. I use the E2 version and it's excellent. 2800rpm
  13. Gen on bottom, Startime on top: Gen on right, ST on left:
  14. None of the above. The StarTime ones are the best. Springs dont crumple and ends are rounded (although gen bars are actually slightly more pointy).
  15. Lol! Do you realize what forum you're on? We all crossed the infringement bridge miles ago!
  16. That's hard core. I appreciate the effort, but I am lazy and would rather just spend $100 and wait a week for a gen crown to be delivered while I watch reruns of Sponge Bob.
  17. Have u tried Helenarou?
  18. you're a regular Matha Stewart. Good job!
  19. I've removed letters before. I scraped lightly with an exacto, then recoated the dial with spray lacquer and then relumed. Result was perfect but it took some practice on sacrificial dials first. Don't use superglue. The acetone content is a recipe for disaster. Use GS Hypo cement.
  20. With no indication from the OP about budget, model preference (vintage, modern), movement choice, flaws he can live with, flaws he cannot, ability to accept gen parts, etc., it is a waste of our time. If one really wants the "best sub" one should at least narrow down the ref model. If he can't even ask if he wants a 116610 or a 5513, our answers would be as meaningless as his question. By at least spending 15 mins to just research Rolex models (whether on this forum or from another website/book) would serve him best rather than buying a model on one persons recommendation and spending $400 on a DSSD only to find out it's not for him. That would be a disservice to him. Genevaroth, what's the best sandwich I can buy for lunch today? Please hurry, I'm hungry.
  21. Who sells the best car? What colour is the best colour? What school is the best? Who's sells the best shoe? Where can I buy the best fork?
  22. The watch smith has no idea to to ask for it. He was asked by another customer if he could try to find out what it should sell for. Because the movement is toast, and it's condition, I would peg it around $2k
  23. I was regretting ordering the 6+ earlier this week due to its size..But i realized that the increased real estate renders the iPad mini obsolete. Likewise with the iPad to a lesser extend. While I hovered over the "cancel order" button, I had a change of heart and now patiently waiting delivery. The optical stability camera and pixel density were also a deciding factors over the 6.
