i suppose you are a US resident? i always laughed my ass off, when i heared in those comercials "DSL, 2x faster than CABLE!!"
or when ppl said "yes, we are on a cable connections, thats way faster than DSL"
but i guess it's the fault of the commercials...
lets clear some things up, DSL can be faster than Cable, but Cable can be faster than DSL!
why? because your ISP sets the bandwith you can use.
for example my DSL connection has 6mbit Downstream and 512kbit Upstream, while our Cable provider only offers up to 2mbit down and 512kbit up.
but there are other cable providers who offer 6mbit downstream also. and there are DSL providers who only offer 1mbit DSL. even my DSL provider offers 1, 2, 3 and 6Mbit. end of this year, they told me, they have their new 50mbit DSL ready. cable companies told me they will have something similar available.
so you cant really say "DSL is faster" or "Cable is faster" - it all depends on the plan you have with your ISP
