  1. I've got a 1.8W blue laser pointer that I use for killing flies, popping ballons and other pointless stuff. Defocussing that and playing it over my watches there are a couple of them where the lume lights up blueish, but in normal light they are the normal yellowy-greenish. Lume experts - please correct me if I'm wrong, but there are various types of lume, each which lumes a different colours. I suppose if you mixed those together the end product could be charged with the colours of the individual lumes and would give that colour back out, so you'd end up with a lume that can be charged with "number of different lumes you mixed" different colours and which would then would lume in those colours, or charged with white light and give a mix of all the lume colours. (probably whiteish)
  2. Micky has informed me that to mount these faux plates onto the movement, two holes are screwed and then tapped (into the top plate?) of the movement. And it looks like they do not bother to dissassemble the movement before they do this (which would be the only way they can drill and tap just the plate and then properly clean it). Resulting in a high risk of the swarf from the drilling and swarf mixed with cutting compound (used when tapping the hole) getting inside the movement. I'd definitely remove the back, remove the anti mag cover, remove the faux plate, turn the watch face up and then very gently tap it gently but repeatedly on all sides to get any swarf out of there. Do this while holding the watch level, and then again with a bit of a lean to the watch. Sadly there is no way of guaranteeing the bits of swarf may come out rather then slide into some gears or the balance, so do the above before winding the watch (or after letting it run down) so no gears are turning. The only sure way is just biting the bullet and giving it a full service. Or just wear it and hope all is good!
  3. The problem with this is that the troll IS a troll (a very poor troll mind you, but still a troll), and is attempting to come across as an idiot, sexist, has zero understanding of society, hates anyone different and thinks the rest of the world owes them everything. We know they're a troll, ergo we know they're just saying things in a poor attempt to get us to bite. We shouldn't believe that they mean anything they're saying, and even if they do, they're an idiot and haven't got the common sense to know better. You're not a troll, you're a normal forum member, so you know labelling all members of a community or group with the same description is stupid. Are all football fans mindless hooligans? Nope. Are all comedians as unfunny as Lee Evans? Thankfully, no. Are all bikers smelly, leather wearing loons? No, unless we're on holiday in the middle of Italy where it's 45 deg C in the summer Trust me, I know where you're coming from. Where I live every single unused gateway, the roundabout exits that have been built to go to a housing estate that hasn't been built yet, all the possible gaps to the parks that are wide enough to drive a Transit van through, they ALL have huge mounds of soil, or 25 tonne lumps of stone or concrete there to stop the types of 'traveller' you describe getting on to them. But I'm damn sure that the original Romany Gypsy people hate them too, and these real travellers don't want to come into the cities. I mean, given a mobile home and a choice of living in a rubbish tip in a city, or living with a couple of other families in a layby somewhere in the Lake District which would you choose? I wouldn't be living in a rubbish tip!
  4. Sorry, after re-reading my post it does come across at having a go at you, and it wasn't intended in that way. Just when person number 10 tells you the same thing that you learned a year ago, one can be a little short
  5. I'm well aware of the fragility of 7750 reps (and to a lesser extent 7750 gens). After something is fixed I want to reassure myself it is *all* working, even the very fragile bits. This is what I did (and will do), I test every function to make sure it works as designed. I will very likely never manually wind it again (provided it doesn't go off for repair again), but it will be tested. If something is fragile you treat it carefully, with mechanical respect, and don't use it flippantly. It doesn't mean "Don't ever, ever go near it, ever." If it mean that then all watch repairers all over the world would never test the manual wind components on any 7750s that they had rebuilt, which is just silly!
  6. For me it is a matter of following the other forums. RepGeek is the one where I learned about the ZF factory that was producing the Tudor BB, the new Bronzo, the Pam 389, and the Fifty Fathoms. If the TDs website doesn't state, there are usually clues, the ZF watches have ZF in their description usually.
  7. And the wolf rips off the lamb outfit and reveals its true nature and warped mind. So you don't know what 'society' means, or how it is formed or works.
  8. Mike you got my address for triangularin' the piece to Mickey.
  9. Mike can you post a link to this movement thread on other RWG? Or name the sub forum it's in? I've looked and can't find it.
  10. Archie, same thing here. Pam 289, worked for a few days. Died. Emailed TD, zero contact back, sent to Micky who first found a problem with a chewed up rubber mount. That was fixed, got it back. Noticed that manual winding had a problem, and it didn't feel like a simple problem either. Back to Micky. Turns out there were teeth snapped off the intermediate barrel gear, affecting manual and auto winding. Would cost more than the movement is worth, so luckily he had a used, good movement spare so that went in. I won't say the cost, but approximately the same as yours was. AVOID THE ZFactory - they build complete crap. The purchase of my 389 was complicated slightly as it was thrown in with a good friends order, but why should that affect anything? I still paid for it. Not naming the TD yet, give it to end of tomorrow and then let the mods have a go, and if that fails I'll have no problems posting the TDs name and a full factual account of what's happened in all the forums.
  11. Ken, thought about a proper website? And by proper I mean one that looks professional? To start with it could just list a couple of dozen 'specials', and then have links from the categories (bags, jackets, belts, jewelry, etc) to the photo hosting site. Something like that could be done in half a dozen pages (intro, 2 pages of specials, 1 of sections to the photo groups, about me, contact) which should be inexpensive. I think something like that would give first time Bergies buyers a lot of confidence?
  12. I know, odd isn't it? If they stayed around and became members of the forum and tHEN posted things like this you might believe in it. Otherwise? .....
  13. I have heard that there are people / groups out there that can supply a pre-set up PayPal account, or even a PP and associated bank account. Maybe worth while investigating these? (I've no idea how legit they are)
  14. I find there's a slight technique to using the balls. Take the ball so about 2/3rds or 3/4 of it is in your hand, use your fingertips to squeeze the remaining ball so that you get a small bulge out of the bottom of it, press this onto the back and turn. Without doing this i've found that too much of the ball touches the case, lugs, crown, and it doesn't work to unscrew the back.
  15. Added! And thank you for letting me know about this site! Any others very welcome, from anybody - best to please PM me as I don't keep up with all threads here.
  16. Couldn't agree more about movements. I found out today that the movement in my new Pam 389 I got from a 'TD' here (who ignored my message about the first problem), as well as having chewed up rubber from a vibration mount inside it, has swarf from the holes they drilled to fit the stupid P9000 faux plate which has snapped two teeth of one of the common winding gears. Absolutely crap assembly and zero QC from the ZFactory and zero customer service from the TD. Could be fixed but for the cost, a replacement movement is the same price or cheaper. If I'd received decent customer service I might think about sending it back, but not a chance at the moment. [censored] to it, I will never buy another new rep. The gen Sinn U1 might have cost 4 times as much but it's lasted 10 times longer (running) already and I've only had it a month.
  17. About 40 watches now and more than half of them are gens of one sort or another. 3/4s the gens are under £300, the rest upto £2k, so nothing "expensive" but there are only a couple of my reps that come close to gen fit, finish and quality. The differences are almost intangible, the bracelet link fit, the SEL fit, the bezel fit, all may be 0.25mm better which sounds like nothing, looks like nothing, but when the gap is only 0.5mm it makes a huge difference to the 'feel' of the bracelet fit, quality, etc. Same with the printing on dials, etc, differences that are damned hard to see without macro pictures and using a computer to overlay the pictures, but your brain can just "see" or "feel" if the symmetry is bang on or not.
  18. But it's an AUTOMATIC! It should set the time automatically, and the date, and the day. And wind itself! And put itself on my wrist when I wave my hand above it! It's an AUTOMATIC!!!
  19. If a dealer has that kind of attitude they deserve to go under. PP claim away!
  20. Hehe, the one on the right can So my Cal anytime... Aherm....
  21. A new arrival today courtesy of our AJ. A very, very nice Breitling SuperOcean on mesh. Very sharp, and very nice. Not one i'd even considered before but this is really lovely, great mesh and properly sorted! Thanks Andy!
  22. I thought slightly frayed cuffs was the "in thing" for the soCal crowd?
  23. My 389 from Toro came via DHL direct to the UK I think. What service did you choose that went via Germany (and France?). Whatever that is, it sounds way more dodgy than one that just goes direct to the UK.
  24. Shipment TO the UK VIA Germany? Uh? AFAIK UK customs are easier than German, so I can't see the point of doing this, unless you mean to Germany via the UK?
