Whilst I'm not doubting it's possible to remove an insert with the bezel on the watch I cannot see any benefit in doing it that way? An analogy would be changing the tyre on a cars wheel without removing the wheel from the car - possible but why? It only takes a few seconds to remove the bezel once you're used to it.

Which watch would you consider a super rep?
fraggle42 replied to cajunjay27's topic in General Discussion
Movements are always a giveaway. So whichever you get, buy one with a closed caseback. -
Heh, I wasn't thinking of a DIY job. If an Asian movement is $100 + service $100 + fitting $25 = $225 TC movement $135 + fitting $50 = $185 So it'll save you a chunk of money.

Bitcoin? Bleurgh - sounds like a great way to throw money away. The fact a Bitcoins value went from under a dollar to $874 in a year shows how unstable it is. I've not had this request from PayPal but I have heard of it happening. Can't you report them to the police for attempted identity theft? I'd give them a ring and ask why they're quoting American laws to an EU citizen making transactions within the EU?

I can't help wondering if there's a real watchsmith in the states that would be prepared to offer cut price repairs to people that have been screwed over? You couldn't buy the good reputation that doing that would earn them!
-
Lots to choose from. I only started collecting reps (and decent gens) at the very end of 2012. I think my favourites are the Pam 399, my franken UPO and the Aviator. But lots of others are a very close second!!

I think by a wet test FxrAndy means a proper positive (high) pressure test in a proper WR tester. -
Any watch smiths in the US? I need an watch repaired
fraggle42 replied to Obiwan76's topic in General Discussion
You may be better off asking this question in the Watch Repair forum. -
I can only admire your persistance and gentlemanly behaviour Mike, you know I certainly wouldn't be so polite if I were in the same boat as the other members and lived close by. Ever since all the facts came to light and all doubt was banished there can be no question about MDs feelings and attitude towards other people. My initial thoughts were wrong about MD and have changed in light of the truth, but I default to considering everyone is good unless proven otherwise. Nearly all people are good and I refuse to have such a dark, jaded view of the world by believing everyone is bad. I'll look forwards to the day when it goes to a criminal court and he's convicted, and I hope that result is plastered at the very end of this thread in LARGE font as a huge flag waving it's warning to any other scammers. Carry on the good work and let us know how we can best help.

Help wanted - checking dealer links are valid
fraggle42 replied to fraggle42's topic in General Discussion
Updated first post with V2.0 of the list. It's growing...! -
Ouch!! I bet that bled like heck for a bit!

It might sound easy, and it is incredibly easy to slice the end off your finger! Take care!

TC 2824s are $135 or so and don't need a service IIRC.

Help wanted - checking dealer links are valid
fraggle42 replied to fraggle42's topic in General Discussion
Oh, that's odd. I spent ages sorting out the formatting and got it looking great in preview, but looking at it now I can see the first entry in each section is messed up. Not sure if that's a TapaTalk issue or not. I think I'll have to see if I can post using HTML as that's a lot better than BBCode. Yes, everyone, as MOAB correctly says, a forum will only support TDs that they list, so if you chose to order using a dealer that (picking another forum at random) is on RWI, then please only order from that TD WHEN LOGGED ONTO THAT FORUM. If you're not a member of the other forums it only takes 5 mins to create an account there and then you can get access to 2, 3 or even 4 times the madness!! This post is really to double check all these web links, weed out the incorrect and dead ones, probably add a handful of other dealers in. Once that is done ill make a new post for people to use / check the dealer links, and I'll put all this kind of advice in there. So anyone else, if you think of any other information that would be good to have to the notes section of the finished version of this list, please do reply with them! And thanks MOAB -
I think these are the same as a PO. This is what I read to do to remove the bezel on my PO:- Get a sharp (ish) but strong knife, then on the watch, on the bottom left (7pm) position put blade between bezel and case. Put your finger on the opposite (blunt) side of the blade to where it is sitting against the watch and press hard. You might also need to use the other hand to slightly turn the bezel (you won't be able to turn it as it's being held by the blade, but wiggling it as much as you can helps) To protect the watch case get some tape and put it over the case as much as you can where you will be putting the knife between case and bezel. I also removed the strap, and covered the crystal and anything else I could - it's easy to slip and one slip the wrong way and you've marked something. The bezel was not very tight on the PO I did this on and I found that one knife wouldn't do it, I had to get two, one at the 7pm position and a second at the 5pm position. I used Stanley knives as those blades are strong but thin and fitted in well and didn't snap. Once bezel is off there's loads of guides around describing how to remove the insert and refit it. And the bezel fitted back on with nothing more than thumb pressure - quite a lot, watch case on a bench, bezel placed in place, one thumb either side, standing up and press hard equally on both sides until it clicks.

What you think? Picked up new beater.
fraggle42 replied to Mike on a bike's topic in General Discussion
For the price that's a super beater! Nice find -
Hi all, I'm trying to get something sorted in the background with the aim of regularily checking and updating the links to the dealers in their sections, but in the meantime I've compiled a little list of most of the dealers from all 4 forums. If anyone has recently used a dealer and you know what their current website is, or you've got a few minutes free to do a search in this or the other forums to check that the stated URL is correct and upto date, I would be forever grateful! Just reply to this thread with whatever information or updates you have. None of the links are clickable at the mo, when they've been verified I'll change them to clickable links so everyone can easily see what's verified and whats not. Thanks, Richard Version 2.0 of the List This doesn't have any nice formatting, but all the data is now in a program which can sort, search, select, etc Also if a dealer is a TD in multiple forums I've added links to each forums page for that dealer so it's fair across forums. I've got to do the above step for straps, accessories. Also there's some more strap and part dealers in RG I've spotted. Also I've added sub forums for the watch dealers (vintage, rep, gen, homage), accessories (bags, belts, shoes, suits, other), and have added a category (and sub categories) for our watchsmiths and modders which needs populated, as we'd all be screwed if it wasn't for them! Here's a raw dump of the V2.0 data. (Verified watch TD homepage links, all strap TDs homepage links and forum page links now clickable. Unverified still not clickable) Dealer : Asian 7750 (Watches (Rep)) Homepage : http://www.asian7750.com/cn/index.asp Forum Page : RepGeek : http://www.repgeek.com/forumdisplay.php?f=175 Forum Page : CeeJay, sorry for the VERY late reply! This is a previous gen 42mm PO (the model before the ceramic & liquid metal). I read up and from the information i gathered I was under the impression that the gen tube and crown were compatible with rep mid cases and would just fit right in. The photo shows the rep crown (2nd from left) and rep tube (right most) and the gen crown (left most) and gen tube (3rd from left). The gen tube has a lot smaller diameter at both ends and as such will not screw into the rep case. I'll need to glue it into the case. So I was just saying that info I read wasn't correct, the gen tube (and crown) are not a direct replacement for this rep case. I realise that there are probably quite a few varaities, plus both factories probably made their own POs. This particular one came from WI and is a supposedly high quality case with cheap 21j movement in it.

His push bike wouldn't have made a good getaway vehicle from the ETA factory

The Black Bay pre-order (been done twice now) is full. No one has got their watch yet AFAIK. Supposedly the first batch of preorders (300) will be sent out before the CNY, I'll be posting photos when mine lands.
-
We all know you'll end up buying them both But you're right, those photos favour the first blue one so a good idea to compare some more.
-
First one, unless you're a member of the SAS Love the royal blue colour.
-
Yes I got an extra strap from the guy I bought it from. The rubber and NATO that came with the watch and a sort of sailcloth strap that is green coloured, the colour matches the green of the dial

What the f*** is that? Looks like a cross between a camel and the creature from Aliens cross bread with a baby unicorn!
