  1. That Hamilton is definitely my fave MOAB. You've got to hate that one, I need a chance to win it!! (Black Day sales aren't really done in the UK, as we have Christmas at Christmas time )
  2. I don't think Andrew will mind if you have a question about the date being black writing on white background in the QC pics and the other way around in the advert. If you still fancy that watch knowing it's got a metal bezel (I can't see any difference in the bezels to be honest!), just ask him which colour the date is on the ones he can get now? (there might have been an early batch with the inverted colour date wheels from which those QC pics were taken) What people mean about being a "funny one" is if you ask one question, and get a reply to that, and then spot some other small detail, ask about that, get a reply, spot another small thing, etc, etc, etc, so Andrew sees maybe 10 emails, each asking about some small detail. Some people expect a rep watch to be so close to the genuine $25,000 watch they will question every microscopic difference! You don't seem to be one of those, and asking about the date being the wrong colour is a perfectly valid question to me. Both watches look lovely, and I think the second one is closer to gen, but of course that extra work costs money. An extra $30 in this case.
  3. That second link you posted is a computer generated image, it isn't a picture of an actual watch. Is faaaar too perfect, no dirt anywhere at all, everything is in perfect focus and the biggest give away of them all, all the screws (strap and bezel) are properly aligned. Hublot never bother to align their screws. I actually think they train their assemblers to make sure they're misaligned in every one! Terrible (if you bought a gen)
  4. Yep, Andrew was quick to reply to me and it took 3 days to arrive here. THREE days! Ordered on the 19th, QC pics 21st, replied next day, posted on the 26th, arrived 29th.
  5. Just received this PP today from Trusty Time. I believe this has the movement you're looking for:- http://www.ttw888.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=39_202&products_id=703&zenid=137dc9ed07c7b9187199ae3ca1c5c939 I so want to turn the movement over in the case. Sod reading the time, I want to see that movement ticking all the time!
  6. I've found my tastes changing a lot since the beginning of this year. I started off loving chronos, PVD and watches that young people wear (new Tags, snazzy rollers, etc). Then I got to a point where things that looked great on the screen just didn't cut it in real life. So I started trying a cheapie of something that I looked at the pics and thought "meh, what's all the fuss?" - Pans being the main one. Now I've got rid of almost all my chronos I originally got (nothing wrong with any of them, just didn't feel any love for them), most of the PVDs I had, and am now happily into a couple of TCs, a few Pans, a few white/cream/ivory face dress watches that are classical looking, and a handful of Seikos. I seem to have found a good test to see if I like a watch or "love it-must have-or will die without". If I find something I like I'll store the watch in the back of my mind and forget about it for a couple of days. Then when I see another one, or the same one, if I still think "that's nice", then that's all it is, I think it's nice but I dont' want one. If I feel "wow, that's very nice" and like it more than the last time, I'll squirrel the mental image away again until next time. By the third or fourth time I know if I truly want it or not. Even watches I didn't like the first time I saw them I've grown to really like them, and then get one. If you're talking about mega rare or fantasy one offs then you've just made life a whole lot more difficult as it may be years before you see another one!
  7. Be aware that nearly all so called 'Swiss' movements are OLD movements pulled out of old watches that have had the minimum of parts replaced (by Asian parts) to get them working. You will very likely get an old Swiss movement that's had a cheap repair. General wisdom between the repairers here and on the other forums is that you are better off getting an Asian movement and having it serviced when you get it. It should give you years of trouble free use then.
  8. In my current FS threads I've stipulated that buyers should have > 200 posts and have been a member for at least a year or can get a regular to vouch for them. A bit cheeky as I've not quite been here a year myself, but like all of these things theyre flexible, and are there just so I can be sure they're not a fly by night new member out to scam people. Any long term membership on any forum is valid as far as I'm concerned (they need to prove that account is them obviously) It's annoying to have to do, and probably tees off more than one new member and loses a few possible sales but I'm not in a hurry, someone will come along eventually.
  9. WTF? Ok, who's hand is who's? Or should I say who has the peanut allergy and had just been force fed a whole bowl of peanuts?!?
  10. Have a look at Getat. They can do pretty much what you want and will make it with whatever colour of stitching you want and a pre-v buckle. It will take about 2 to 4 weeks to arrive, but they're lovely. I've got 4 of them and had a pan homage with another of their straps on.
  11. Blimey, hope you didn't buy mine for parts! I'm wondering (if it is an automatic) if the slip main spring got stuck to the inside of the barrel and the last user just stripped the gears by over winding it? Or they were just too rough? I would imagine that once a couple of teeth go, more and more will go around that spot, and the bits may also cause jams causing more damage. I have got an old knackered movement where the transfer gear that winds up the barrel, the mounting screw was just a bit loose, causing that gear to move up and down just enough so it could disengage and slip over the teeth on the barrel which appears to have wrecked them both over time. You could wind it a little, then it would slip and all resistance to turning the crown would vanish, so you wind it lots quickly, then it gripped for a split second and pinged out again. Not good.
  12. Cheers Pete, very handy to know I'll not be ordering much stuff apart from Xmas presents until next year anyway, a man needs money for beer and mince pies. Ah, I see they're US based. I've had custom charges on four out of the last five parcels coming from the states. Nothing for anywhere else, so avoiding the US for now My raffle watch came through no problems.
  13. Love the detail in this dial, great depth to the textures and numbers
  14. 35% off! Blimey, that's a major league discount Thanks for the heads up MOAB!
  15. Today I received a little package from Ofrei containing 4 straps and a little case for a little project I've got going on. One of the straps was for my new creation from AJ:-
  16. Hehehe Don't worry, I only realised when I followed the link, read it, thought it was something that had just happened as I couldn't remember it and then just happened to notice the date in red on the webpage. Of course that doesn't in any way diminish the disaster or the trauma the families are still going through I bet. At the moment I'm trying to divert 1/3rd of my "watch and watch related toys" fund to the DEC, the watches will still be there in 6 months.
  17. Nice one Pete! Bookmarked for future browsing Is there not a sticky "Handy Links" post somewhere that all these various good things can go in?
  18. I know, getting silly We're being spoiled as we have cheap (ish) reps of six figure $ watches and can pick and choose as we like regardless LOL! Thank you, I try not to go out of my way to 'search' as I'll be tempted to buy something for more than I normally would as I 'want one now!' Better to just see what turns up
  19. This did happen in March 2012 ya'all know? Newbie brings long dead thread back to life alert!
  20. The thing is I look at the full size Speedy, and the sundials are not spread out, it looks like a rep with a quartz movement in it which has caused the maker to put the subdials too close together. I'll wander down to an AD and see if they have the full size in.
  21. That is exactly what it stands for my friend! A word of caution though, we have had a spate of scammers recently, so stick to members who have been here a while and have good, recent feedback.
  22. Which forum does he normally lurk in? Seems to have been on here by far the longest, but last post in April this year. Want to check availability of a watch (if it is still in production, etc - PP0018), and have found that emailing the general sales email usually reaches a member of staff who just say "yes" (and going on previous evidence of a certain other dealer) which has been 99% cobblers. I'm happy to trust the big man themselves, so want to ask him.
