  1. Silicon grease, skim coat only, will do, thanks.
  2. So after opening the cases on my new found treasures, and adjusting the timing as well as I can, I find myself wondering if I should be relubing the gasket ring on the caseback with some type of lubricant. Two of the backs went back on like butter, but one definitely seems dry, or scratchy as it goes back on. I don't expect any of them to be waterproof, but I'd like to give them the best chance of surviving me washing my hands occasionally. Of all the choices, what should I be using, and it what quantity? Thanks!
  3. My 4th gen PO from Andrew is advertised as having a 2824-2 movement in it. I cracked the back, because it was running +3 seconds a day, and I adjusted the timing by 1/2 of one notch. While in there, I looked around with a 5x Jewlers loop. All the markings were right where they were supposed to be. After 3 weeks, in the winder, on my wrist, we are running +1 seconds a day. At this point in time, if someone told me it was an "asian copy", I would say................thank you sir, may I have another!
  4. All good points Tim. It's a 5 yr old ladies Movado, probably a $700 watch, so maybe it does have the AR coating on it. Again, why they put the AR on the outside still escapes me. I ordered some cesium oxide, and will practice on an old Pulsar I have hanging around. The Cape Cod cloth appears to be OOOO steel wool with a pink, vanilla smelling, oil based compound. I'm sure it was the steel wool part, not the compound that did the scratching. The issue with these fine scratches is the fact that the insert is jet black, and there is nothing on the face except for the hands and a single hour marker. If anything, it will be a learning experience. Should I trash the crystal, I will just have to replace it, as the watch never seems to leave her hand. Another reason I thought it had a saphire crystal, she wears it constantly for the last 3 years, and no scratches, I have it for 10 mins, and scratch city
  5. Thanks Pug. As it took you more than 2 minutes to respond, I was getting a little concerned, was thinking of calling the Paramedics, for fear some ill had befallen you Grasshopper is thankful again....... Long live Pugwash, the Master Po of RWG!!!
  6. So after going over my wife's Movado with a Cape Cod cloth for about 15 minutes, it looked great..............except for the 20 or so hairline scratches I put on the crystal! Forgive me for thinking it was a sapphire crystal, as I paid good $$$ for it about 5 yrs ago. Looking at the caseback, indeed, there is no mention of a sapphire crystal. So, I give it back to her, and she says, "Wow, it looks great!", and I'm thinking it looks like goat poop. So help a brother out.............. is there a best method to remove fine (Cape Cod cloth induced) scratches on a mineral crystal? I will purchase whatever additional tools required! Thanks in advance!
  7. I've only been on the board for a few weeks, but I've done a lot of reading, research, comparison shopping. In the end, I decided to spend a little extra money, because of the perfect detail seen in this model. Sure the legs/feet/toenails are all wrong, but people you see on the train will never look past the perfect eyebrows, vintage armbands, popping forearm veins, pointy ears..............the list goes on and on. VERY few mods required on this baby! Just throw on a pair of legs, and you are good to go! Link to Best Sub available online
  8. Having already grabbed a PO and an LV sub, I also am very interested in what I should be considering in my first PAM. The only thing this thread is missing is more Panerai Porn..........bring on the pictures, especially the ones hard to tell Rep vs. Gen!
  9. I recently got Paul's "Perfect" LV sub. You can see my pictures and brief comments here: My LV sub from Paul Not a bad choice, IMHO. Chris
  10. Welcome Senilecoot, I like your screename. I have only been here a month, and 500 new members have joined in that time, wow, the word is getting out there. Nice collection, enjoy!
  11. After picking up a 4th gen PO, a "perfect" LV sub from Paul, and a gen Bulova TT sub, I have noticed that even with a "loose" bracelet fit, the crowns on these three watches are starting to irritate me. I've taken the cape cod cloth to them all, but I feel like it's going to take something like 600 grit automotive sandpaper, followed by 800/ 1500/2000 more cape cod cloth to really "smooth" them down. Besides the fact that it will be difficult to do evenly, time consuming, and will remove the TT finish from the Bulova crown, are there other reasons why I should just learn to live with this nuisance? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe some accupuncture will put things in perspective..........
  12. So on Ofrei.com I found the following pins and tubes: Seamaster 1501 & 1502 Removable Link Pin $3.70 OME-128ST9051 Seamaster 1501 & 1502 Removable Link Tube $3.70 OME-201ST0049 Ofrei.com Omega Seamaster pins and tubes link Anyone know if these would be the correct pins and tubes for a 4th gen PO bracelet from Andrew?
  13. I'm in need of a few extra Omega pins for my 4th gen PO bracelet. I've searched, and can find a million tools, but not the actual pins themselves. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!
  14. 2737 + 2 = 2739 2 you say.............hey, I've only been here for 3 weeks!
  15. Ofei.com has genuine hands here, but none of them have the orange tip second hand: Ofrei Omega Watch Hands page Could I just replace the hour and minute hands with broadarrow hands, and use the rep second hand (if I don't bend it!)
  16. I'm curious as to where I should be looking in the US to source the correct sized hands on my 4th gen PO. All else seems well with this piece, but I find myself just staring at the hands, knowing they are "too short". I'm collecting tools to be able to open up the watch, pull the hands, etc, but I would like assurance that the diameter on the hands, etc, will be correct. Thanks all.
  17. You Guys saved me from buying a $900 Sub Rep from Idealw@tches, the least I can do is kick up my membership level! Now I'm gonna go past the big dude with the red velvet rope, into the VIP lounge, mix up a drink, and breathe in the Panerai leather lounge chair smell..........Ahhh........
  18. As a recent Supernoob, I did not find RWG via Google, is was via the top 100 watch list. I had used the standard "Rolex" spelling in my searches. It took me 3 nights to finally land here. I don't know how sales/mod/service/repair volume is tracked by the dealers. It would be interesting to hear how the top 200 posters/collectors on RWG compared to other 5000 people who joined the forums..........who bought most of the reps.........who created most of the mod business.........who supports the rep service sector.........how much forum support was from the dealers/top posters/members/lurkers..............in essence, what is the "Mission Statement" of the RWG? Is it an awesome hobby site? A dealer's clearing house? An endless supply of Panerai watch porn? A mix of everything? Now that I'm here, I'd think it's cool to go deep underground, as long as you take me with you But I wonder how much the Forum/Dealers need the lurkers/noobs/low post count peeps? Can you risk losing them financially by becoming unfindable, or are they just flies buzzing around the cake? With flies buzzing around my head, I'm back down into my hole...........
  19. I once had a package take 6 weeks to get from Montreal to Boston. I could have walked on foot, backwards, uphill, both ways, and got it faster. I was quite sure the seller had screwed me, but he had a perfect eBay rating. When it finally came, it looked like it had been to the top of Mt. Everest and back. Probably stuck under the back seat of the "delivery vehicle" for a few weeks. I wouldn't give up hope for a few more weeks anyways.
  20. So................is there like a 12 step program for you Panerai addicts? Looking over the forum, it seems like the addict would have a problem finding a "sober" sponsor anyway, so what would be the point? I think I'm sorry I asked what they are. Handsome watches, very nice.......must........not.......look.........at.........Panerais..........must. .........go........into.........hole...........
  21. Aye, Forums on Hiking, Cars, Cameras, Home Theater, and now Replica Timepieces. The trend is quite obvious...........more sendentary interests as my body ages! He, he I'm glad all my shameless butt smooching didn't go unoticed. I'm afraid I've got the Rolex bug pretty bad, as I actually stopped by an AD today, and got my hands on a factory Submariner. This, of course, while I'm picking up something last minute for the LOML. Very concerning. Anywho, having never held a Rolex before, two things struck me right away: the "gemlike" shine on the piece, and the smoothness of the second hand. I'm trying to resist the temptation to order a Rep tonight from Josh or Andrew, just to "get things started", and this glass of wine is not helping my judgement......hmmm..... Of course, all of this just makes me wonder............what is a Panerai? I better get back to reading my "watch porn" on RWG............. Down into my hole..........
  22. A small advantage over the house, in craps, can be obtained by intelligent betting, dice setting, and dice control. Placing smart bets is easy, Dice setting is easy, dice control is more difficult, but is where the real advantage lies. After the initial roll in craps, the house wins with every roll of the "7". By controlling how often the "7", or the "devil", shows up, you can tilt the advange slightly from the house to the player. There are several good forums on the topic, one of the most popular being Heavy's Forum, a link is attached below. Much like this forum, I think you have to pay a small membership fee for full access. I was on this forum for a year, good people, funny, boatload of knowledge, down to which table to play on which casino, no kidding. Enjoy, as this can also be an addictive hobby, especially the few weeks you are practicing before your trip to the casisnos Heavy's Axis Power Craps forum
  23. Hey all, Supernoob checking in! Yet another lost soul, ready to plunk down $900 COD for an "idealwatches" Sub, until I stumbled on the "Deep Well of Knowledge" here at RWG. As an Ubernoob, I promise to go read 500 posts, and report back with a more refined line of questioning. FWIW, I downloaded and read the Replica Watch Group Book in PDF format today while "working" , and I think it was $11 very well spent. I also upgraded to a standard membership..........how else am I gonna cruise the dealer forums when I finally figure out what I want! I'm gonna go throw myself down the hole now, I'll report back in a few weeks. Until then, cheers! Blackrain
