Nice piece, looks like a DW! If I were you would get a ruby bezel (she also has the correct one with flat S sometimes and otherwise get it from MQ). Dial is not too bad, would stick to it and eventually replace the coronet on the dial with a gen one. Last but not least, top it off with a gen t21 and you have a pretty sweet piece! good luck

Thanks for the comment! Where can I get some more info on DW's? To be honest I've been looking everywhere for the specs as I did not remember 😕 Can't find a single e-mail or DM except the shipping info and PayPal payment :// I just remembered it had been worked on a bit.

I just remembered it's a nice piece and I enjoyed it! I think I will not put 4-500€ just on a MQ bezel right now unfortunately and I just ordered a t21 from clarks hehe.

E-mailed Ruby and waiting for a price list and if she has a flat S bezel! I hope to fix it up a bit so it's wearable again

If you are feeling frisky & your watch is V72-powered, you might also replace the dial with a more accurate 1 from MQ.

Thanks for the input! Those are amazing, I've seen MQ's before but as I remembered the prices were a bit too high for me and this build rn... Approximately how much does he charge for a bezel and a panda dial? The three you've attached look incredible btw!!

    Good point.
However, Elliaz has a Newman dial & I think MQ offers (some of) the best Newmans I have seen (some are rubbish, but the white Newmans are good). Though I have not done a thorough search recently. So there may be someone out there that offers something better than MQ.

As for the bezel, if you look at the fonts (especially, the 2s & 8s) in Ruby's bezel & compare to gens, I think you will find that Ruby's fonts are a bit off. Most importantly, they lack the swan-neck 2s, which MQ's bezel gets correct. That is why I think MQ's bezel is worth its higher price. Assuming that you are willing to pay a bit more for a bit more accuracy.

i wished I had that eye for detail lol...

  3. Friends of the forum,

So basically I used to build and play with reps a bit previously and I once bought a nice 6263 back in 2014/2015 for around 600€ from one of the forums! It was a nice build and I liked it a lot!
One day my father managed to drop some glue on it by accident and try to fix it and polish it and destroyed the bezel and the crystal... since then it's been in a drawer and forgot about.

I've been into gens since and last week I found it again and was thinking of fixing and maybe upgrading it. Unfortunately I can't find any information on any forum or e-mail I have except when I paid the seller and he sent me the shipping number 😕 I used to have a list of the parts and stuff but just can't find it.

I was wondering if anyone in the RWG could maybe help me identify the parts I have and recommend what and where I should source a new bezel and crystal and also if you'd have any tips on what I should be upgrading and what mods I could our should do?

I'm lowkey glad I'm back and might dig up a franken Panerai I misplaced a couple of years ago lol

    Thankful for any input!

  4. Ouch I feel your pain, I tried last week to get replacement parts for mine from a few dealers, but no joy, I am learning to live with a crack in the case.

It gives a slight robust feeling but ... NOO!

Thank you for your reply... I'll might have to stop my quest and accept the fact :/

  5. Fellow members....

Unfortunately the day has come when my father accidently dropped my Ceramic PAM... Thankfully the it only suffered minor damage to the bezel and not the whole case!

    1448f69984fd75817e8a69b14c53bcbc.jpg

My question is... Where can one source a replacement bezel? Is it even possible pr should I just glue it back and learn how to live with it...

    Thank you in prior lads,

  6. Based on photos from his recent eBay listings, DW's fixed a number of issues with his acrylic insert--including compressing that 110 and switching to fonts that more closely match the earlier bezels (i.e. flat 'S'). Beyond that, I have no idea how the current DW bezel differs from his earlier ones.

Cheers lhooq, interesting to know. I've not seen his latest offerings, I've been a little out of the lhoop (chortle chortle).

Hmm... So DW or not... Where does one source it!

Thanks for some expert help, would've taking me ages to see the differences myself!

  7. No problem! I agree it hurts but his cases are the best imo and he does all the work, win win. Don't even worry about the band now, it won't be anywhere near 1500$ it's 19mm, they don't cost much. It feels really good to build your own, you'll see!

Haven't focused on the bracelet as I'll first look for the head at least! The thing is, I'm located in Europe, will that give me any major issues while shipping front and back to Phong? Hmm..

Nice Silver Tritium service dial for about $1500 on VRM a few days ago you could try to grab. Hands are hard to get though but if you're getting Phong to build it might as well let him use his hands.

Haven't seen the dial and can't find it!! Saw some hands at ridiculous prices so, unless if Phong's not building the case and it is HIGHLY recomended to stick to Gen, I might try to source some later on!

One small point - I'd avoid a DW bezel and rather go for a WatchNY. That 110 spacing is a deal breaker for me.

    Happy hunting.

Oh yes! That's the one I read about but misquoted myself as I was thinking the maker was DW!

Thanks to all of you lads!!

  8. If I had 6000$ to make a daytona, I would use this recipe.

    Phong's case 1200$ Appx

V72 or 726 movement 1200$ appx (tip: try to get one from a member here)

Gen p302 pushers and gen crown/tube appx 1000$

Gen tropic 21 not much let's say 200$ tops

That makes appx 3600$ And leaves you with 2400$ to get a service dial and hands. You may need to spend a tad more for the dial/hands but not that much more.

I usually send my parts to phong and he retaps his case to accept the gen tube and pushers, he then installs the movement, dial, hands and crystal. It comes back as a completed watch.

Thanks CC! Always there when in need!

I think the worst part is paying for Phong parts haha, but if you want the best you have to pay I guess...

And how much would a bracelet cost? 1500$ approximately? Man, I wish I would've bought the Franken that was for sale... Haha but hopefullt this will turn out well!

  9. Fellow RWG members,

As I think I've acknowledged sufficient information of rep builds and modding, I am ready to start my "holy grail"-buid of a 6263 (Same as many others here on the forum). After seeing Whoopy12's and Bcampion's build (which was sold right before I saw it) I felt the urge that I have to build one myself and I know that it can take up to a year at least until the product is finished...

Although I need some help on the way. Which parts should be reps and which parts should be gen..?

My budget is approximately 6000$ and I'd like to state that I, like most people, would not just want to buy the first parts I spot but most preferably would like a decent price of course, and I am well aware of that it can take a whole lot browsing, bidding, searching and work to get it right.

    My thoughts are:
Where should I look if I would like to purchase a Service dial or an Original one, eBay and VRM?
Should I stick to a Phong case and would it fit a DW bezel?
Which other parts do you think should be Gen except the Dial, hands and bracelet?

I know my budget would break if I for example bought an original dial instead of a service dial and the more gen parts I put in to it.

Thank you for your patience and time,
    Elliaz

  10. I believe the 21j GMT movements are DG3804.

They can be bought from oferi or cousins

Second hand pinions on the 21j movements are incredibly fragile. I hope you at least didn't break it with the pinion in the second hand. Did that once and had to order new hands and a new movement.

Be careful with those second hand pinions. Don't get greedy and try to pull all the hands at the same time. Always pull the second hand first and do it very carefully. Those second hand pinions are thinner than a sheet of paper.

    Good luck

    Thank you BC!

Just ordered the DG3804 from aztimeparts.com, although after checking their mail I'm not sure if it's a real website as it seems that they're page is half done and their e-mail verification hade a "place your logo here" sign ... I should've just tried ordering from Cousins but was to fed up with waiting on registration until I got my VAT number!

Well, we'll just wait and see... I am not sure if I broke the pinion, I really hope not though! Might have to check with the watchmaker on Monday!

  11. The DG2813 is the non-GMT movement. I don't know if they are converted/modified to GMT or if they are called the wrong number. The correct number for GMT is DG3804B. That should be a direct replacement for your watch. If you went with an ETA movement you'd need new hands, the DG hands won't fit. Repairing a DG movement is not worth the time and effort even if you can find the parts.

    Thanks Joey!

I'd buy a new movement but haven't find the right place in EU and not sure which one would fit the hands! I'll try to interchange the Second hand wheel from my "GMT modified 2813" (or whatever it is sold by Trusty) with my standard 2813...

  12. Fellow members,

I have accidently broken the "pin" (or what the secondhand holder is called) of my GMT BLNR purchased from Trusty. It is stated to have an Asian 2813 movement.
I bought one of these movements from eBay without acctually thinking twice and to my horror the movement's without the GMT option. Is it possible that Andrew has stated the wrong movement? Or is there a specific version with GMT option? Is there a possibility I still can change tha broken parts from the new with the old one? If I happened to buy another movement, say 2836, would the hands still fit?

Many questions I know, thank you in prior!

  13. Aging a watch is fun but don't get carried away.

I think people sometimes forget that it's a water tight watch.

There is absolutely no reason for the dial to look wrinkly.

Look up some actual gen watches and age based on that. L

Usually a relume and a matte spray is more than enough to give it a proper 40 year old look.

It doesn't have to look like it's been sitting in the bottom of the ocean IMO.

With that said, I would guess he used varnish + water mixture to age the dial.

    Or possibly baked it.

You can get a similar effect by holding the dial up to a halogen lamp. (It'll start bubbling up)

To age the case, I usually just dremel all the edges and then polish the whole thing.

If you're gonna sand the hands, they will probably turn bronze.

    Good luck.

Cheapies are fun to play with but it's also real easy to get carried away aging.

I think some of the best vintage builds are usually clean and look like they've been sitting in a safe for 40 years.

Just some puffy lume is enough sometimes

Thank you BC! I'm almost on the same track as you are. I'd love me some puffy lume that would look like aged tritium, preferably the red/orange type...

I think my biggest problem now is to find some lume as I've never acquired lume previously. Also I'm thinking if I should switch the crystal...

  14. Probably easiest to send him a private message. If not there are a whole bunch of 1016 modders on this forum (they've recently become very popular, I have one on my wrist as I'm writing this)

    I'll do so! Thanks Hayden!

If anyone else have any tips they'd be appreciated :)

  15. Fellow members,

I just bought an Explorer 1016 Tiffany's dial. As it's a really cheap rep in general I was wondering what's worth doing with it, if it's even worth the time according to you? I would like to make it age a bit and of course more genlike if it would be worth the hassle. Any thoughts?

  16. I found the strap having good quality in comparison to previous AP reps, unfortunately it started to break relatively early so I had to switch to my rubber strap.. I personally would not buy the gen strap if the ordinary one does the job! The 700$ is worth it if you could spend that type of money ol a rep knowing anything couls happen to it..

If you have the Hublot diver then in my opinion go for the BB!
