  1. What do You do if the movement You bought is not what they sent You? If it´s Myota or a 23j, an Asian ETA-clone or just a 21j You notice anyway. On both, if the screws are tight and You don´t have the exact correct size, width and length - at minimum You will scratch the screw-heads. Maybe just leave them alone? (if there´s nothing else wrong).
  2. Good decision. A fresh, new and packaged replacement asian movement, assembled in a dust-free environment with due care, is better than buying the rep-watch new and for $90 - $130 (asian ETA) You have the job done, if doing it Yourself. Without sending it away and without needing a huge investment in equipment.
  3. Hi PeteM, welcome back, long not seen on here
  4. Hi, from what I read most will use a dremel and jeweler´s file, just because it´s the most commonly available. Pro´s have a drilling machine, but than they also have the know-how to work with it and bring them to another levelalso shortening lugs and redoing that nice thin brushed part between lower caseset and lug. To drill the lugholes You need additional equipment to get them straight and to not overheat the drillbit in the lugholes. As common mortal and inexperienced user I just had a go at it with the Dremel, only crownguards and polishing. As time goes by (days, not 1 or 2 hours) the results keep getting better. The most amazing part for me is that in the end all scratches get polished away and with several passes the metal gets a deeper shine. Just try all the pieces in Your kit to see what works best, use polishing paste and have several goes at it. You need a small anvil, there are some with rubber around, that worked perfect for me. What does come in handy for the final finish is a 4 or eight sided nail polishing file as it goes from coarse to ultrathin/ smooth. Before and after rough&dull vs. shiny
  5. No problem there, it´s typical of the lower grade Myotas, still a fine and reliable japanese movement, not a clone. The beatrate is more like 21600 bph instead of the 28.800 bph Asian eta-clone that will look much smoother. That Myota seconds hand also stops randomly and continuous moving, it´s all fine, just a bit odd to look at when You look close.
  6. Adding to the above many Omegas come with the Myota 8015 and they do that, not a problem. Standard behaviour of that movement (if the one You have is non-hacking). Other option is the seconds hand is touching the minute hand or the dial, if that´s the case it would need adjustment (but than it would also stop prematurely when the power reserve is low, normally exactly over the minute hand)
  7. Basic info: The best fully hand-stitched/EU-leather will set You back $2500-$3000, the recommended quality/price ratio for half hand-stitched/EU-leather from those who buy them is $1000++ just to give an idea. The finerlabels ones (Trusty) are $378 but there must be differences. Just picked this up from some lady-members across the forums while thinking how lucky we are by just buying watches:) Where to buy are well-kept secrets on pm-basis as sites do change more frequently even than here.
  8. Hi and welcome. Once You get it You may well open it up to check - and You will find it really has that decorated movement inside, they want to sell them at that higher price. The warranty You get is not a replacement one, if there is something wrong, You just send the watch back to China and it gets repaired over there in a couple of weeks or months. The "warranty" the TD refers to, is that theoretically he can only open it once You have accepted it, otherwise he could not exchange it at the factory for another if/when You refuse it for other reasons (don´t like the colour of hands or pearl seems misaligned or whatever valid or non-valid reason). If everything else looks good and well aligned accept it and soon You will get a nice rep. You´re just getting to know the place better.
  9. They have Invicta written in bold letters on the left side of the case. Imo it´s fine to have one or 2, but personally I do much prefer the Seiko 5 range and it´s offerings. With rep prices going well over the $300 range they also face some serious competition from gen-makers like Gerlach watches from Poland, Steinhart in Germany or Prometheus and Borealis watches from Portugal amongst many others. You might want to take a look at them before having a watchcase full of Invictas.
  10. It´s a good warning, for the EU the only safe way is to order via triangle (watches, dials, bracelets, etc.) at extra-cost. If the TD does not offer triangle, You have to skip or find someone in the UK who will accept it and resend to You. It costs, it takes time, but it avoids any hassle, lawyer letters and flagging, and last but not least You also get the items ordered.
  11. Hi and welcome. VIP gives You access on buying and selling on m2m and have a somewhat better standing/reliability, specially as You´re new. It also supports the forum going on, good thing. Straps is a science for itself, one nice maker from Spain is here http://www.jacobstraps.com/js-correas-artesanas-piel.html and in South America You have Martu straps shipping worldwide. Lots of others more or less expensive around. Have fun researching the vintage sections:)
  12. Fantastic and very versatile watch imho with the "modern meets vintage" touch and gilt-look on the red very well done. I find the rep to be fantastic and easy to wear in all occasions - respectively from morning to late evening and night, except the shape of the crystal dome from a sideview and the crown when screwed out it´s very close to gen overall. V1 - red remains my favourite, with nice even lume and somewhat creamy white on the markers and dials (others did not like the pearl on V1). V2 - terrible without a re-lume with mismatched hands compared to the markers (improved pearl, although to me it looks the same). V3 - errors of V2 corrected, still markers and hands are too "white" (the blue model does not have these issues as the markers are white anyway)
  13. The first "gilt" built and first pic on the "new" forum
  14. Hi, first ok for the price, Seatimer don´t know about this model but curious to see some pics, YM only know of one with the working countdown chronograph, curious to hear from You what this chronograph actually does, myself I like the looks of it. Both A7750 movements, don´t wind them, just pick it up, twist gently and use. Don´t use the chrono often and if You do stop it between position 50´and 10´ first, than reset. Never push the reset button when the chrono is running. For using the date setting position first set the time to 6 o´clock than set the date, than set the time. At other times other gears may be engaged and it´s best to avoid. Please post pics when they arrive:)
  15. Hi and welcome. In my opinion You have 2 options: either the classic BP Seadweller 16600 model (very good, long time around) or the $148 white or black Explorer II Noob best edition, possibly the very best price offer for a good looking and recent release. Have fun
  16. Hi, on the better reps like the Blackbay it´s not common, get one, it´s very nice:)
  17. Those are Bubblebacks, actually on Your pics both are amazing:) Recently saw this interview, check "talking watches with Jason Singer" on Youtube.
  18. Hi, You´re either looking at a Noob V5 date or no date for the ceramic 116610 or You skip it and for the time being choose a completely different watch (bezel insert/caseset/bracelet/crystal/laser etched crown, pearl/ platinum paint on the numbers, lume) just to mention a few differences. Best price/quality/looks relation You will find is on the classic BP Seadweller 16600 model on Ryan´s site, personally I do like the Datejusts as well (either in the +-$250 range) From Ali You will be better off looking for a quartz TAG PRC and similar, there are some quite nice.
