  1. Yawn, you're hardcore...bloody hardcore, mate! :-) Weight can always be put back on later, but your wrist will be looking great now. Two-minute noodles and rice *can* go a long way...
  2. * ...and those 2 digits are to the right of the decimal point * you need to remove another link from your watch band because you've lost so much weight due to your "I'll buy food next week because that triple 6 rollie rep is too good *not* to buy now"-attitude
  3. Hmmmm... $217k could help (insert large number here) people in the Philippines rebuild their lives. I'm no liberal do-gooder, but I shudder to think how some of these rich people's spare change they spend to impress people they don't even know could impact the lives of so many people. But then again, I'd also like to believe that someone who could/would spend $217k on a watch could/would also donate tens of thousands of dollars to worthy causes as well. Am I being too optimistic to think that ? DD
  4. * You wear a loupe in case you need to prove how accurate your latest rep is to anyone who asks * You feel it is your responsibility on Remembrance Day to let everyone know when it is 11:00am based on your Rolex rep * Your rep is a "witness for the Defence" to prove that the clocks in your office are slow, therefore you *didn't* leave work early
  5. I have to agreee with fraggle here. Naming and shaming is a great idea so other members are made aware, but it also alerts the scammer and he can simply re-register with a new name and email address. My suggestion would be that since we have trusted dealers who have to earn that distinction, is there something for "trusted members"? Purchasing VIP membership is a given, but have other criteria, such as a minimum number of posts and time as a member, but also some feedback from the TDs (minimum number of transactions with TDs?). And since thee major boards seem to be related, have a good presence on all major boards as well. Just a couple suggestions anyway. ...but i really wish that someone would sell some Apple-related products here in the General Discussion section. Nothing suspicious with that, right? Lol !!! DD
  6. New signs: * You blow out your monthly data allowance on RWG Forum and a few TD sites * You hide your massive rep watch addiction and web surfing evidence from your wife by quickly going to Redtube just to get it in your browser's history so you'll appear 'normal' * Your wife is relieved to see Redtube in your web browser history for a change * you think that Big Ben = an early British rep
  7. Hmmmmm...a few classic symptoms. Feel free to add some of these to the list on the thread I started : http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/164501-signs-your-watch-hobby-is-taking-over-your-life/#entry1284738 Have you designed the new wing on your home to store/display your rep collection? :-) How about a massive thread showing photos of your collection? It may inspire some of us junior addicts sink deeper into addiction (lol) DD

  9. New signs: * You've been involved in a fight that was started over the validity of a tourbillion in a rep * You were the one who started the fight from the last point * "A quality rep for less than $350? Surely you jest...." * "Service a 2813 movement without replacing it? Challenge accepted!!" * You think that PP should change its motto to: "You never really own a Patek Philippe; your dad could only afford a rep, so just go with it." More to come, but feel free to add your own;-) DD
  10. New signs: * You think any RWG Forum member with less than 20 reps isn't hardcore because "he just isn't trying hard enough." * You add a new floor to your home to store/display your rep collection (double points if you live in an apartment block, which angers your neighbors upstairs ;-) )
  11. Hi all, In response to GWP123's question about whether it is possible to recover from a supposed watch "addiction" (answer - No...now move on), I think it is important that people know what signs to look for to know if your rep "hobby" is drifting into an "addiction" that may take over your personal life : Your son would have had better braces for his teeth, but that Noob Rolex model with the genuine Swiss 2892 movement and bitchin'-looking bezel was just too good to resist! You offered your Landlord a nice Rolex Daytona Chronometer rep as a down payment for next month's rent You believe you scammed your landlord (above) because the rep had a 7750 movement in it Your children have Audemars, Sohne, Philippe, Tag, Hublot or Vacheron as at least one of their middle names (more than one of those names? Hopelessly addicted!) You watch the Olympics 100m final and time the runners with your Omega PO rep and don't believe the runners have set any world records unless your watch confirms it You think that a genuine high-end watch is really just an incredibly over-priced rep You actively encourage al-Qaida to target Canal Street When you successfully replace a movement in your Breitling, your first words are, "It's alive...IT'S ALIIIIIVE !!!!" The amount of fuel you put in your car is determined by the latest special's on Andrew's website For some reason, you always want to sit in a seat facing Switzerland. If you can't sit in a seat facing Switzerland, you move the seat until it *is* facing Switzerland (difficuly, but not impossible to do on an airplane) When you hear "Who has the best Sub rep?", you are filled with rage (think Incredible Hulk) You have a timegrapher on lay-away for Xmas this year You wonder if they make atomic clock reps (a worrying sign is if you actively research atomic click reps) You have to take time off work because you find your DateJust rep has gained 3 seconds last month and feel depressed because you weren't paying enough attention to it and its "needs" in the relationship You dream of wearing a Patek rep with a quartz movement and you wake up in a cold sweat You feel that every able-bodied rep collector is morally obligated to make a pilgrimage to Guangzhou at least once in their lives You build a homemade waterproof tester, test and modify your reps to make them waterproof to 50m, but are still too afraid to even take them in the shower! You wish you were going to be alive in the years 2813, 2824, 2892 and 4813 because... well, just because! Well, that's all I can think of for now. Feel free to add your own signs, preferrably from personal experience! DD
  12. To be cured of an addiction, you have to *want* to be cured. If you were an alcoholic, would it make sense to seek a cure in the local pub ? Therefore, asking on here if it is possible to recover from a watch addiction is like trying to kick a bad crack habit while living at Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's home in his basement. I think I'm going to start a new thread about Signs Your Watch Addiction is Getting Of Hand :-)
  13. I'm not too sure about the lume, but I'm sure he'll replace the movement. He told me when he was working for high-end jewellers that a lot of the expensive "servicings" of high-end watches (think $1000 plus just for servicing) mostly involved replacing the movement. He was quite impressed with the quality of my PO rep I just picked up from Trevor a week or so ago, so he's pretty rep friendly. PM me some details of the watch and I'll drop by today and ask him if he'll do it. DD
  14. I know a watch guy near Queen St Mall who is rep friendly. What do you need done?
  15. Hopefully there will be another one in Brisbane sometime in the near future and I can go as well. Preferably southside...and when I get a decent collection going too! Oh well, one rep down, ? to go ;-) DD
  16. This is an awesome post for noobs like me!If this isn't going to be stickied, I'll definitely have to save it as a bookmark. DD
  17. Thanks, guys! However, I'm wondering if my adulation is a bit premature. The watch has already stopped twice in the last couple hours (I wasnt wearing it thesecond time). Is there a 'breaking in' period for the 4813? I've given it a good wind (ie at least 30 repetitons) beforehand, and it went through the whole night last night (the first night) without a problem. Any suggestions anyone? DD
  18. Hi all, I know it's so common that it probably borders on cliche, but I finally received my first rep purchase (WOOHOO!!) from Trevor!!. Great price, great movement, great service and took only FOUR days to get to me in Brisbane. If any other noobs like me are interested, I posted a big review of the process in Trev's section (http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/164274-review-of-trevor-my-first-rep-a-42-mm-po-awesome/) Here's a shot of it for anyone interested (complete with my diver cufflinks, in homage of my previous profession): Will definitely be purchasing more reps from him in the future! Best regards, DD
  19. I know it's so common that it borders on cliche, but I just broke my rep watch cherry yesterday! A brand new 42mm PO from Trevor that took only 4 days to arrive! I'm in the process of writing up the review now...
  20. Or, to all the shops around Brisbane who are starting to put out Xmas decorations : :-)
  21. That's what I have to tell my Xmas obsessed wife every year around this time :-) DD
  22. That's what I figured in the end. I initially thought the logo wouldve stood out like the lume numbers but now I know it is actually reflective, so I can see why it wouldnt show up . I approved the QC photos yesterday so now it's just a matter of waiting! :-) Thanks for everyone's input! I guess the first one is the hardest, so I figure I'll still buy others from this TD. watch this space for the grand opening!! ;-) DD
  23. My gut feel was something like that, but I just wanted to be sure. It seems strange that the Omega symbol is the only thing that doesn't show up though. Oh well... I didn't want to [censored] off the TD which is why I haven't got actually angry (just frustrated) at him. However, I will be going to a watchmaker here to do a similar test so I can be sure myself.
  24. Hi all, I've run into a bit of a snag with my first purchase and I need to see what everyone thinks about it. My 5 QC photos arrived and I was quite impressed with them. As an example : Looks pretty nice, the communication was pretty good, and everything seems to be going well. I asked the TD for a shot of the watch on a watch tester to verify that it is indeed a 28800 bph movement, and the next day he sends me this: Again, everything seems to be fine. But wait a sec....where did the Omega symbol below the 12 go on the second photo? This got me to wonder if these are actually the same watch. I sent an email to the TD as follows: "Hi, I know I asked for the watch to be sent, but I just noticed a difference between the two photos. The first photo (not in the timeographer) shows a very nice replica; however, the photo of the watch on the timeographer seems to show a different watch, as the Omega symbol doesn't appear underneath the 12. Can you please explain this?" His reply : "The Omega symbol doesn't appear underneath the 12. " (No !really ???? That what what I was asking in the first place!) My retort : "that is what I am talking about. In the one photo (DSC_0040.jpg....ie not hooked up to the timeographer), it clearly shows the Omega symbol below the 12 (as all PO should show). However, on the second QC Photo (DSC_0041.jpg), the watch does not have the Omega symbol on the face, which leads me to question whether they are the same watch. I have also included a photo which shows a zoomed in version of DSC_0041.jpg that shows this difference. Can you please explain why the Omega symbol appears in one photo but does not appear in the other photo if they are supposed to be of the same watch. Thanks again for sending me the photo of the watch in the timeographer. I'm hoping this little matter can be cleared up quickly so you can send me the watch soon ! :-) He then replied that he can send a new picture again. Unfortunately, he just sent me the 5 orginal QC photos and not showing a time reading of 28800, but he also said "If you don't trust me, we can cancel this deal" Am I being paranoid, or did I just catch the TD doing a bit of a switcheroo with watches and they are in fact different watches ? Mods..care to weigh in ? Best regards, DD
