Jimmy Fu used his own 'C' (or possibly 'D') series watch for his project, so his cases were 1:1 copies of that series. However, since 1997 Panerai had become part of the Vendome Group (now Richemont, S.A.) and, for the pre-A had used the remaining OP stock of 400 cases, together with 600 of their own production, so the pre-A utilised cases from both companies’ manufacture.

While there were two, separate series of the 1000 pre-A watches, during 1997, the OP 6500 (500+) and the OP 6502, I haven’t noted any record of visible case differences during that period. Given that there were only 400 Luminor cases inherited from the preVendome OP and 600 ‘new’ cases, it follows that, at least some of the 500+ first series (OP 6500) must have been the newer production. Then, particularly as it was anticipated that Panerai would only ever be a low volume, niche brand, it is highly unlikely that, having tooled up for production of the first 600 Vendome cases, that the design would have altered for the next few years' low volume runs. Therefore, unless there is any evidence to the contrary I would conclude that they are identical.

Thanks, very clear and conclusive write-up!

They were the best; so good that I know that a significant number were used to recase worn preA, A & B series watches, which were then sold as 'minty' collectors pieces. I was able to get one of the older genuine cases that resulted from this process. I also had a number of Jimmy Fu case-sets and used one of these, together with a genuine preA1 dial, gen tritium hands and a CdG Swiss 6497-1 to build my all time favourite 'rep'. I still have one unused JF case-set, gen crown and a genuine 002 'L' dial, plus a genuine white base dial.

I'm sorry to hijack this thread but is a preA case identical to an A or B series case?

I always thought JF cases were almost 1:1 copies of B-D series cases, now I'm wondering if preA and A cases were also the same?

I thought these were long gone, or are they currently produced?

Definitely not. I read some topics a while ago about this subject.

In the early 00s he made some casesets based on his own gen OP 6520 caseset. These casesets (almost complete bar crown) were very accurate. Lots of them ended up on eBay, the prices were very cheap but he no longer makes these parts and they were all bought up a long time ago.

You'll be a lucky man if you find one! Prices have been up since.

  4. Hi guys

Don't know much about movements and I got hold of this watch (111N Noob).

I was wondering wich movement was in it, I did some research but can't seem to find the visible differences.

It seems to have a genuine Incabloc..

Anyone who can point me in the right direction, I have absolutely no idea what to look for! Thanks!

(I made a typing mistake in the title, I meant 6497 ofc)

  5. Anybody here already ordered the new KW v4 version of the 360, or have some experience with it?

It's only change over the V2 (don't know where V3 went, but I never saw it online) should be more greyish color of the DLC, but I think from the pictures the CP now looks off, it seems lot bigger.

I'd like to hear some comments before I go and get one.. (or maybe I should wait until Noob releases their V2 with correct dial, or make a mix with best parts)

  6. Hi guys

Recently I was wearing my 111N Noob V3 and noticed that the complete crown guard including lever and all screws were gone.

They must have fallen off (the screws always came loose, should have used Loctite :-/) while I was wearing it.

Is there any place where I can order replacement parts for my PAM? (preferably also Noob V3, I think it has the best CG - or gen)

    Thx!

  7.  I aint sure why you are quoting my post mate especially in relation to what you wrote...

If you think the lazy quote was aimed at you then I am sure if you reread my comments you will see it wasnt..and nor was it intended to... as for his sources nor did I mention that.. my comment about lazy is to those who rely on it... or treat it as gospel... rather than use it as an aide memoire etc... nothing more mate :)

All I can see from what you have written is that you seem to re express what I said...

My bad, it was not addressed to you in specific, should have quoted better.

Thanks for the input! (all of you).

I think I will go with Noob, and later on get some other bits and pieces to mod it.

  8. Ale does go to a lot of effort and for the community as a whole he makes a great contribution... I applaud his time and effort :)

But a lot of what you read is flawed or based on a false premis.... however as a guide for a noob who dont give 2 hoots about PAMs like alot of guys do and are only bothered about having ' the best sub' then I think its a great source of info... If you want a decent OTB PAM rep and cant be bothered to do your own research and study and learn about the models or the brand yourself then it is a great lazy mans guide..and anyone who relies on it gets what they deserve... ;)

As for the 005 the best OTB version was the H makers K

However you will not find one ..or its unlikely so try a WTB if you want something like that...

If you just want to order one from the dealer then as Hubrisin says go for the current Noob version...which is a decent OTB rep...and I am sure will meet your critical needs ;)

Regardless of where ALE gets his info and images from (Google Images or own source), I think the guide is a great starting point (especially for someone like me with little experience on this matter) to start your research with.

It was never my goal to be lazy, I also did a lot of research on this (and other) forums, but can't seem to find many info on the KW-one. I think it's a new rep? There is a lot of info about the Noob and H-factory ones.

I think the sausage dial on the KW 005 looks better than the one on the Noob 005, but it's hard to compare the two without proper images/review/comparison..

  9. Hi all!

PAM-virgin here! I want to buy a 005 soon but I can't seem to find the differences between these two models:

    PAM 005 V2.5 N-Factory ($258)

    and

    PAM 005 K-Series (KW) ($278)

I think they both look great, and found a lot of reviews on the Noob one but no review of the KW.

I tried looking for ALE's Reference PAM Review Guide to check out wich one I should take, but RWI is down and I can't get access to it using Google's Cached link for some reason.

Any help would be much appreciated ;)

  10. Hi everyone!

I recently discovered RWG and the world of HQ reps. I was planning on getting a replacement for my current watch (Nixon The Insider, of wich I learned now that it's an overpriced piece of cr$p) and got drawn into the rep world!

I already learned a lot from this forum, and I'm planning on getting my first PAM rep this week!

    Cheers
