  1. Most of the oa10a, f16 and f15 pilots in our squad wore govt issued cheapies. The cargo guys also wore cheapies. Most of the civilian pilots I know now don't make enough money to spend on a rolex. Now that I'm around politicians, I've seen more high end watches worn by them than any other group of people except professional athletes and stars. . Keep an eye on your elected officials and you'll see all sorts of high end shoes, jewelry, suits, ets.
  2. Wait on Andrew to respond. I wouldn't open it until you talk to him.
  3. I am. Thank you for the reply.
  4. http://www.ofrei.com/page1119.html#16874 I found this website to purchase movements. Which one is the one that comes in the cheaper reps? I need to purchase a tool set soon too. I see where this hobby is going. Haha
  5. Haha, never really thought of it that way. The only problem with that theory is that the now "x" wife sent it to me while i was deployed way back when. The sentimental value really isnt there.
  6. Thanks so much for the kind words and awesome welcome to the forum.
  7. Thats where it has been. Haha
  8. I know. I wish they had the replicas in quartz. I buy them because I like the style and looks, not because of the movement. It's had at least a bakers dozen batteries ran through it. Ha
  9. I purchased this in 1996. It's a mangled wreck, but after reading posts on this site, I may be able to get it up and running. I like the cloth bands, so the cheap band wouldn't be an issue. What would you do with this thing? Should I donate it to a watch repairer?
  10. I've had this old fossil for 19 years. It's been on my wrist through Iraq, Afghanistan twice and southern watch in Saudi. I got hit with an IED with it on my wrist, faught in Operation Anaconda with it on there. The thing has taken a lickin and keeps tickin.
  11. I think it would be easier to get a small business loan, buy five or ten watches and go for it that way. My guess is that business taxes, people interested long term and crooks would be the issue. You're looking at a thousand dollar a month payment on a 80,000 loan plus insurance and operating costs. So, 10 people at $100/month would pay the loan. The majority of people that I know who splurge on high end items don't need to rent or join a club. They purchase what they want or they have friends who already have what they want. It would be hard to break even.
  12. I would guess if you like that one then it's a good one!!
  13. I'm crazy about military history and I remember him havng that watch in a drawer. We all played with it and an old M1 bayonnet. Lol I remember hearing the story several times, but the watch disappeared when he passed.
  14. Ok, i answered my own question. Lol Anyone ever heard of this replica? http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/2009/1/20/the-rolex-speedking-a-gift-for-british-pows-during-wwii.html
  15. Does anyone know which Rolex Air King was given to RAF, POW's in WWII? My grandfather was a U.S. soldier, but I remember him having a Royal Air Force watch that he said was given to him by an RAF pilot. I'd like to see if I can find the replica.
  16. Thanks Mke. I just read the million posts of questions not to ask. Haha!! I'll dive in head first and see if i can come up with an opinion.
  17. Im new here and I thank everyone in advance for any advice. Ive purchased a couple replicas in the past while in the military. My question is on all these movements and prices. I've researched the site, but cant serm to find a answer to what movements are better. Im looking at purchasing a milgauss green tinted glass from watch eden. They offer 3135, 2836, 3131 amd an asian special. I currently have an order in with fobreplicas and ordered prior to finding the forums thst have trusted dealers. Thanks again for all the help.
