  1. So I decided about a decade ago to get into the exclusive watch club. Not knowing a ton it came down to The Oris TT1 Chronograph or the Tag Aquaracer.....both utilizing the 7750....however the Aquaracer uses a Elabore grade where the Oris uses a standard. I chose the Oris because of its smaller size.....and a savings of about $200........thats where the nightmare began. After about 4 years of wear the threads between the case and crown began to strip until one day the crown would no longer seat. As you may be aware this basically renders the watch useless. The failure of the crown seating happened durring a time when I was getting ready for work. When I got to work I looked at my watch and noticed a ton of moisture inside of it and the crown out......this happened going outside on a humid day. The movement became toasted. Oris was willing to do absolutely nothing and their only North American service center Boston Watch was willing to charge me a cool $2800 to fix the watch......a mere $300 more than I paid for it. I took on the task of learning to rebuild the movement myself which after a year I have become a 7750 amateur tech and can strip and rebuild it at will. Now.....I needed a new crown....which most of you know takes about 10 mins to install......the MONOPOLY set up by Oris, Boston Watch compnay offered to take my watch and "inspect" and install a new crown for $300. I cannot get this part anywhere else. Unless you want to become handcuffed to this Monopoly at some point and their willingness to gauge you to be able to wear your watch do not buy an Oris. Spend the extra few bucks and get a real watch like a Tag.

  2. Thank you blue. for your detailed response and explanation. I'm gonna give this a try if no one comes forward with the proper tool. I'm guessing the pliers are spring loaded at the handle ? Can you send a pic of the entire tool please?

    Thanks again.

  3. Hey folks I'm trying to remove the permanent links of a TC 93250 ( the ones stamped "93250" that connect to the SEL). I need to do this without damaging them as I'm wanting to reuse them with my Gen bracelet that is missing these links. I know Rolex had a special tool for this, so I was wondering if anyone here has such a tool??

Thank you for any help you can offer.

    Regards,

    Richard

  4. TC is really your only option- Startime cases are gone from what I hear and Sean's may not be available either and is certainly overpriced.

JMB can drill the lugholes or PBdad out in LA.

Personally, I'd go with the TC 2824-2 and cut the dial feet, but you could do a Yuki 3135 and save the feet and have it serviced.

Who or what is JMB , and where are they located?

    Thanks

  5. Thank you both for your replies and intel.

    A question...

I've read TC's blog page about his TC 2824-2 and it sounds like he's got a solid reliable build going on. That said i scared to death at cutting the feet off a gen dial! So my question is how reliable is a Yuki 3135 of course after said service (which what's a ballpark figure on a service and who performs such a thing ?).

So the real question TC's movement or a serviced Yuki?

I hope to eventually source a gen 3135

  6. Hi guys , I'm assembling parts and bits for a Franken 16610/16800 build. I already have a gen 16610 Tritium dial and bezel insert. I want to use as many gen parts as I can, that said I'd like to source the best case set that accepts gen parts. I've seen Yuki and Helenarou, I keep seeing Star time and "Sean" in my searching of the forum/s. If there are others that are better AND currently available please advise me.

    Thank you and best regards

    Richard
