  1. We are all crazy....but in a way it makes us normal. It's the people who just "wind-and-set" that drives me crazy. Now let's hope the makers can create a movement that has a reset-to-zero mechanism when setting the time, then it would be a thing of the past.
  2. I was laughing at myself when I found myself constantly doing this: And as a result: Okay, maybe the last one was from constantly wearing a watch in the bright sun. In case if you can't see the contrast, it's a light strip where I wear my watch over the rest of my tan wrist. I hope I'm not alone in this...any victims as well?
  3. The sandals thing = Me being American, I hate it, but my nana, who is Japanese, sees it as a custom. The eating thing = My cousin Jimmy does it all the time. Even worse is when he does it with his mouth open. Parents and society = I have a friend whose parents think this way because he became a doctor. So his parents ACTUALLY think he is doing society a favor.
  4. It's a pretty good rep; some minor details are off, but the two most glaring flaws: 1) no AR like on the "super reps" 2) Caseback should say "3000M", not "300M". I believe By-Tor's guide on Breitling reps is pinned on the top of this forum..seek and ye shall find...
  5. Well let's just hope they get the (mostly overlooked) caseback correctly...
  6. This pearl is...what? Uneven? This is what you should expect with a rep. There's some detail that's going to be off. If you want it to be perfect: 1) You could buy a gen bezel. But good luck finding that anytime soon. 2) Buy a gen. Then you wouldn't have to worry about inaccuracies.
  7. What you have is an earlier generation of the Pontos Day Date. I wou say it's around 20 years old and a nice refinishing would do it some good. What you won't have, however, is it fetching high dollars. There is a similar one selling on chrono24: http://www.chrono24.com/web/es/hersteller/...lastshowpage=10 but their's is SS and refinished to look like new. I'd say sell for $400-$500 and it would sell quick.

    Panerai box ?

I guess they don't call themselves a cartel for nothing.
  9. He's a technologicial maniac. And fossil was one of the first proponents of Microsoft's SPOT technology. And being that Mr. Gates looks like he doesn't exercise, he has no need for the Suunto SPOT watch either.
  10. SS Buckles come either brushed or polished. Would look kinda funy if you had a polished watch but brushed buckle, or vice versa.
  11. I remember reading in a post back when the rep was still in production stage that the brushed ceramic bezel was for the SE Asian market (or Japan?), so yes, brushed ceramic editions DO exist.
  12. I saw their past auctions and to me, the rubber strap he had looked of questionable origin to me. I have gone through gen rubber straps, and I know that they have markings indicating strap width and length end-to-end. The Breitling "OEM"'s the seller had didn't have any markings on them.
  13. I would disagree with the agressive marketing with the AP. Although they are of impeccable quality (and I am guilty of wanting to purchase a ROO Montoya soon) , you can't tell me that they haven't aggressively marketed their watches. Fine if East Coast Jewelry, Westime, and AP Singapore commisioned their own versions, but I see it as milking the LE name when now Shaquille O' Neal has his own Offshore!
  14. Funny how nearly everyone has this type of reaction with the HBB, but not the ROO, where there are nearly 20 different versions of the SAME watch or dial.
  15. My post was inspired by others (namely stephane) looking to unload their collection, but after a day of window-shopping yesterday I thought about my collection (gens & reps) and am considering getting rid of everything to get either one of these: Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono Audemars Piguet RO Alinghi Polaris SE / ROO Montoya Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving Geographic I love the hobby of rep collecting and being a novice watchmaker, but as my collection grows, my emotional value towards any watch seems to become more saturated. But I've always dreamed about owning a gen from the Big Three without breaking the bank. I've done enough impulse-buying that I'm proud (and ashamed) to finally be able to afford one of them... ...but I ask the proponents of the rep club...would you think what I'm doing would be a mistake? Would a rep give me the same satisfaction? Have you ever thought of doing the same?
  16. one way to tell is to look at the ends of the straps (where you insert the springbar). a gen would not overlook this area as this is where a solid rubber piece would be cut into two; so this area would notmally be "finished".
  17. Good thing you spotted the scam, clive...even though it was on CL, I'd expect that it was part of a scam to get Joe Sucker to send money to a mission in West Africa...
  18. Since we're from new york, we're allowed the luxury of being late; in fact, we're always late getting anywhere.
  19. I used to think about it until I realize it shouldn't matter what I thought about people not wearing a watch, because Mr/Ms. No-Watch is thinking of the same thing with me. I had a friend who once said that having to constantly know the time is like being a slave to it. What an idiot, I thought to myself.
  20. I once had a friend of mine pronounce "IWC" as "ah-dub-ya-see"...guess where she was from?
  21. That one's turning me on too...but alas, the wife steps in...
  22. ken, That's where I believe I got the basis for my topic. And don't forget, they review alot of movements! PS: I apologize if you were rated by me as a 'bad speller'; it was a trackpad mistake.
  23. As most of you may know, the Swatch group has decided to cease outside distribution of its' ETA movements by 2010. Some may view this as the collapse of some manufacturers, whereas major increases in prices of others. It may also cause other manufacturers to develop their own movements, since they may not be readily available. But we forgot two more players who may be supplying ebauches to the industry (one already has): Sellita and Eterna. We already know that Sellita is shipping over 600,000 of their SW200's to other manufacturers, but ETA supplies millions upon millions of movements. But what about Eterna? Did you know that they were the ones who designed the original 28xx series? They have been creating new calibre designs as of late. My question to you is: What do you think will come of the industry if the supply is shorter than the demand? Will we see prices rise? Manufacturers fall? Newer players in the "ebauche" game? Will asian watch manufacturers start seeing the boom that was reminiscent of the 70's? Will we know Sea-Gull (Tianjin) as a household name? And finally, what do you think of ETA's decision to cease selling movements? As always, I appreciate your opinions and look forward to hearing your responses!
