  1. The Silix one is the same style I got with my gen Tag a few years ago.
  2. Not at all, I'm a big guy with a big wrist so it just looks and feels great.
  3. While my 127 is getting a new crystal I've been wearing my SOSF a lot more and it's become my daily beater. Mind you, my Explorer II and Tag Aquaracer are on their way back from The Zigmeister so this could change shortly! I love this watch though, it looks great and suits pretty much any occasion.
  4. 0581 The top part of the crystal which was uncracked yesterday has now cracked and broken off, that's happened while it's been sitting in the watch box overnight.
  5. I'm quite happy to post that chunk of crystal to anyone who has a tester to check and see what it is. Bottom line here, if I get one of David's sapphire crystals, what are the chances it'll pop again?
  6. Is that definitely the case? I was under the impression this was sapphire, it's certainly never scratched and I've not been exactly kind in my treatment of it. I guess it could be mineral and I've just been lucky. It was around mid 2006 that I bought it from EL so I'm sure it was from that batch.
  7. This is interesting but it's hard work listening to - The narrators voice is incredibly annoying!
  8. Yup. Hence why I want to replace it with sapphire.
  9. A lot more than that, it's one of EL's 'ultimates' and has had the canon pin mod and been serviced and lumed by The Zigmeister. I just checked and I've had it for 20 months. I don't really want to replace it, just make it whole again. This watch gets a lot of wear.
  10. I was sitting on the toilet earlier, minding my own business and I heard a sort of pop sound, and not the normal sort of pop sound one associates with sitting on the crapper! I thought it was unusual but wasn't able to immediately work out what it was. When I stood up, I heard a thunk and spotted a large round piece of glass on the floor. I picked it up and couldn't work out what it was. It looked like a lens, but there was nowhere it could come from. So I showed it to the family and none of them could identify it. This was about 4 hours ago. Just now I looked down at my watch and I noticed what looked like a small piece of dust on the face up between the 12 and the 1. I stared closely at it for a good few seconds before I noticed something was wrong. I've known since shortly after I received my fiddy that the crystal is likely to go. I've had it for over a year so I think it's done quite well considering some others went after a few months. So it's now sitting in the watch box looking all sad and broken. I'm now looking for someone in Europe who can supply and fit a replacement crystal for me. It has to be sapphire and it has to have good AR. This one had excellent AR and I'm not prepared to go back from that. Is there anyone who fits that bill? Any recommendations? Thanks.
  11. How funny, but they get everywhere. Christmas day, open a brand new board game, unfold the board and there's one in the middle. Unwrap a bar of soap, put it on the side and wait for the pube to form on it.
  12. Absolutely. It would make my sport a lot more difficult because I shoot at ranges all around the country and my 'home' range is an hours drive away. It would add a couple of hours onto a competition and those days are crammed full enough as it is.
  13. Not for practical pistol or iron plate shooting, no.
  14. I have firearms, I respect them. I shoot practical pistol, practical shotgun and general plinking. My kids have been brought up up to respect them as well and I have absolutely no issue with guns. To me, a firearm is a piece of sporting equipment. I've been through stringent safety training and the mere thought of actually pointing a gun at someone makes me feel sick. I have a few blank firers and a couple of airsoft pistols and I handle them in exactly the same way I would with the real things. Finger off the trigger, double and triple check to ensure they're empty etc etc.
  15. Finepics telephoned me a few weeks ago wondering if I was interested in buying any of the reps he had (not many, three or four I think) because he was buying himself a gen Panerai and getting rid of the reps to pay for it. I'm pretty sure they were all ones that he had had for a while because I've seen them when I met him a couple of years ago. We talked a fair bit and he said that as far as he was aware, all the outstanding watches etc he'd got had been returned except one, and the owner was aware of the situation and happy. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. But the fact he's posting about gens and saying he used to own replicas does tie up with what he told me on the phone.
  16. I suggested the 111h. No bugger will know what it is so it's a talking point.
  17. Why would a fiddy be vintaged, they're only a few years old?
  18. I've got a 005 and a 127 but would like a decent rep Panerai with a datewheel. I don't want one with a cyclops though, nor a Ferrari. I recently sold my FER002 because I didn't feel happy wearing it, even though it was a gorgeous rep. Any suggestions?
  19. Short arrow, long arrow, short 3, different font, bad As I'm confused. How's the dial on this one?
  20. I find it quite amusing to see a whole thread about mispronounciation and pronounciation When it's actually MISPRONUNCIATION and PRONUNCIATION (sorry, the spelling of these particular words is a pet hate of mine). /edit - IPA to me means India Pale Ale
  21. I was, yes but it was covered by the sleeve of my jacket and that arm was holding a Boots carrier bag with some toothpaste and under-arm in it so he wouldn't have seen it apart from the odd quick flash (fnarr). I certainly didn't draw any attention to it at all.
