  1. The best straps that I have all came from HK Tan. Made to measure and absolutely lovely. The gen guys speak highly of his work, too.

Possibly the best and most expensive, short of a gen Pam strap is www.ABP-paris.com You can have hours of fun designing a strap on their website.. then baling out before you have to pay for it :-)

    Happy timekeeping!

    Clive

  2. Those lug screws can be a right bugger. I used superglue on one of mine... had to, really - the threads in the second-hand watch were stripped. Threadlock is a good option on a new watch.

However.. here is my real tip - most straps are made to fit standard springbars or Pan bolts. So the Rad wires rattle around in the strap and look a bit silly.

I solved this by inserting a length of used ball-pen refill in the strap. I cut it a little shorter than the width of the strap.

The result is that the Rad wires are a snug fit in the strap, will never damage it. and that the fix is completely invisible.

    Happy timekeeping,

    Clive

  3. This is deeply saddening. I have had the privilege of meeting Jos and Andrew and I know them both to be stand-up guys.

Sure, they are in business to make a living - but I have seen how hard Jos works to bring us the good stuff.

I certainly don't believe, as has been suggested, that Jos had ever employed such underhand tactics to disable a competitor.

    Why?

Well, firstly, he is too busy to spend time on shenanigans of such doubtful value and secondly, he doesn't need to. He is the best.

The very fact that he is being attacked in this way kinda proves that.

Nice when competitors do the PR for you...:-)

  4. K'nell. Who let you out?

Don't tell me, let me guess. The Chinese governement set precedent and let you, and only you, out with 'time served'? I had heard through the Guildford grapevine that Her Majesty was in negotiation for your release.

"Get stuffed you waddling Peking ducks!". Were her final terms.

That is so close to the truth that it is scary.

I spent 7 days under house arrest in Guangzhou last year.

But the "house" was a 5-star Marriot, so I managed to cope:-)

  5. There is no single "Guangzhou Watch Market". The real watch market is actually several different market building clumped together. Each contains several hundred independent dealers each with a one or two metre counter.

For anyone to call themselves GZ watch market dot com, or similar... well, caveat emptor.....

  6. I treat all my (non lacquered) straps with Lord Sheraton Leather Balsam. Available in the UK from Tesco. As it says on the lid, "Cleans, Revives, Polishes and Protects". Good stuff.

I treat the inside as well as the outside. Sweat from my wrist (on a very hot day in Italy) once ruined a very beautiful pale green croc strap as the brown dye of the lining soaked into the green croc (sob)
