  1. Well certainly the right people just haven't look at the post yet. I don't know much about Rolex, but other models I've found that housed the 1030 were the 6536 (circa 1956, an update of the 6205) and the 6538 (James Bond sub from Dr. No, also 1956). It dates back almost - but not quite - all the way back to the original submariner and seems to have been used for about 10-12 years, from the mid/late 50s to the late 60s.
  2. LOL Well, I for one love it.... The gen Navi bug has been biting me lately. Congrats on this fine piece, R. We should definitely coat that crystal!!
  3. Bring the broken bar to any watch repair place, and they should be able to help you out.
  4. Wow, that's gorgeous.... I have one on the back burner awaiting your magic touch as well.
  5. Nice shots, sz1. What's your assessment of the AR on this one in comparison to the crystals you've had coated aftermarket?
  6. Interesting indeed!!! I'll have to track down that promotional video. Does that piece also have the shorter hands? This would tend explain how these artifacts (DW font and hand length) came about in the rep... if such a beast does in fact exist then I would have to believe the sample used to generate the rep was one of those (and a rare specimen to boot )
  7. Bingo. W's bottom line there really captures my only thought on the matter... A simple concerted effort ought to be made to flush out problematic dealings with modders. The positive reviews come naturally and regularly, but one man's trash can often be another's treasure. So it is the serious** problems that need to be brought to light more expeditiously which can most benefit the community as a whole. Many examples come to mind, perhaps the most egregious being the revelation that RBJ's quarantining of members' watches for well over a year only to return them (for those that WERE returned) with major problems was not an isolated incident but in fact quite widespread across the community. Things like this can and should be prevented; they never should have gotten that far. And I believe most problems can be avoided by simply utilizing what's already available to everyone - so long as we speak up and make it available. At that point it's up to the individual looking for mod work to do his own due diligence. No amount of experience sharing or certification can ever protect one against his own carelessness. And we shouldn't strive to provide that sort of protection anyhow. ** Keeping in mind, as W also mentions, that complications will sometimes arise and mistakes can be made - we're human. So one who strives to provide the highest quality without cutting corners and does everything within reason to resolve unforeseen issues is a simple standard to hold IMO.
  8. How about a nice used Breit Navi Cosmonaute (or other variant)? I've seen many a nice one well within your price range - although I've only noticed them on American sales boards. Here's one going for $3100 USD for example:
  9. Love the Inge! Great pictorial, Pix. I have seen a few of these rep factory coated Inge crystals in person now, though... And I haven't been too impressed. It's strong in color and weak in anti reflectiveness. The difference after stripping and recoating is tremendous, at least on my end.
  10. I'm sure you could go either way... My inclination would be to remove the new crystal from the bezel using a hollow die to support the perimeter of the bezel as you press it out with a smaller diameter die from the inside. Reuse the compression ring when you install it into your current case. The only reason I'd do it this way is to prevent dinging/marring the case which can happen sometimes when trying to pry off a bezel. But if you think you can pop off the old bezel without incident, then go right ahead and do so, and then just use a large hollow die to press in the new bezel crystal assembly together.
  11. LOL funny stuff with the sig. VERY well done!!! On another note it almost seems criminal that some of the PP pieces (gen) don't have AR. The Nautilus would look amazing with Double AR and they certainly weren't trying to cut costs by omitting it!!
  12. This indeed would be the way to go IMO. I'd absolutely love one of these too. Of course, I'd probably also have to get a newer 42mm model moon watch for day to day wearing since the vintage pieces are just so small on the wrist. I also really like the Broad Arrow chronos, but am not willing to touch those in house Omega chrono movements with a 10m stick...
  13. Good thread chalk full of info. Indeed EXIF can be removed or changed and shots can be enhanced with or without photoshop. Thankfully we have a lume artist on this very forum whose work is second to none and from whom you know what you're getting each and every time. We are very lucky!
  14. Looks great. That dial makes this watch... And I love this shot in particular. Crisp and clean: Congrats and enjoy!
  15. I have received gen Tag crystals for AR, and the owners have been much happier after the mod. I've also done some gen Omega SMPs, and am stripping and recoating someone's Sinn 656 next month. So, really, whether or not gen Tags have AR or not, it's still an upgrade..... and even gen owners agree apparently. LordRasta's news is all the better, too.
  16. Great!! Now I have to get a Slevin!!! Great work, R.
  17. Actually, in SF, one can never really be sure.... cableguy, you're not too far from me, but it definitely was not me... BTW, if you're sticking around this week, it'll be warmer and nicer for you now that this storm has passed. I heard there were 55 MPH winds out by the GG bridge yesterday!
  18. Presto, my friend.
  19. Hehe - it's hard to find an angle where the crystal is visible with this AR... So is the one on the right yours?
  20. No AR on the left. Double AR on the right... Picture courtesy of Vaccum
  21. I have the exact same VCO. I had The Zigmeister do the superlume and cross transplant, and don't regret it one bit.
  22. Great shots. Love the box. My VCO crystal is due back with AR any day.
  23. You're going to love the brindle. I've got mine on a 196 at the moment.
  24. This brings to light a big problem.... Reviews are only as good (so to speak) as the person giving them. Once you get something like this into the hands of a The Zigmeister, all the details - many of them glaring problems - are going to be exposed which otherwise would not be. Thanks, The Zigmeister. This is exactly what we need to see more of around here... Hopefully not consistently so disturbing, though.
