  1. Thinking about buying this one and sticking it in a safe for approx 16 more years, then giving it to my son. It is the F serial, from my son's birth year. And aside from that, this one has two features: (1) it's the first sub without lugholes, and (2) it has the dial with the flat S. I don't know if #2 is really of significance or not. This thing is in great shape, with box and papers... but the asking price is either at or higher than what it cost new at $4900. Your thoughts?
  2. Ooer !
  3. Whoa. That's sweet.
  4. +1 - but to each his own. My 16520 wouldn't be the same without the polished midlinks, and I'm no bling lover.
  5. I love the kevlar band. What do those things run? I've got a gen case lying around waiting for a transplant. Time to step up my efforts and get it done! Grrreat pics!
  6. There's a saying "We never fully understand the love of our parents for us until we become parents ourselves." It's the joy of life, and something nobody should deprive themselves of, IMO.
  7. I've experienced the same situation with a family member. He woke up one morning and while he was getting dressed, he couldn't tie his necktie. He'd tied his necktie every day for 20+ years. But he said as he stood there in the mirror that morning, he couldn't make his hands tie the tie. One week later, diagnosed with stage 5 brain cancer. Three agonizing months later, and I mean agonizing, a good man was dead. It's a cliche, but enjoy every day you have. Life is short.
  8. Nice work on the waterproofing, R ! I wouldn't even know how to go about making my 16520 water tight.
  9. A 0.6ms beat error is very good.
  10. Hey sander, your PM box is full...
  11. Hey Rob... did you use a different nick on the forum previously?
  12. Ronin - you've got some skills there buddy !
  13. That epoxy is has a tensile strength every bit as high as the steel case itself. It's going nowhere.
  14. I just got a pair of Mont Blanc frames with high index lenses and killer AR. Nice, but I gotta say... they're no Cartier.
  15. That's a good idea. Well done.
  16. Ugh, watch your backs. The killer or killers are still on the loose!
  17. Ya, it's anyone's guess as to who, between Oprah and OJ, has the bigger ego.
  18. Wow. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2006908/OJ-Simpson-confessed-Nicole-Brown-murder-Oprah-TV-interview-planned.html
  19. Interestingly, the Doxa 300T Conquistador was the first watch with a helium release valve for sale to the general public (1969), however Rolex holds the patent.* *http://www.doxa300t.com/conquistador/conquistador.htm
  20. There are never any dumb questions about lugs. I want to say around 2004 or so, Sea Dweller cases no longer had through-holes in the lugs. The F-serial submariner was the first sans through-holes, so I'd suppose the change was also propagated to SeaDwellers at the same time.
  21. Yes, I've heard that ladies have an extra hole. Great review and pictorial.
  22. Ah ha! Velly Velly interesting! Man that white logo sure threw off the rep makers, didn't it! (Still think those screws are PVD or DLC; not quite black - but the shine vs brushed look sure is different between the pics)
