  1. Well yes Marrickvilleboy, if you read through the thread, we do agree to the fact that the 2842s are just as reliable, its not an issue of reliability. The 2842 beats at 21,600 A/hr, where the genuine PO beats at 25,200 A/hr. The 2836 and 2824s go at 28,800 A/hr IMO, when I see a watch using the 2842, I don't need to stare at it to see it ticking slower. A quick glance is all I need, but when it comes to the 25,200 A/hr, its a little bit more difficult to tell when compared to the 28,800 A/hr. Sure if you have them side by side, you may be able to tell, but what are the chances of someone running into you noticing it and then pulling out one with 25.200 A/hr and comparing? I've recently held a genuine PO at an AD and from my personal eye, the movement is noticeably smoother than that of a watch with an ETA 2842. Then again what are the chances of anyone really spotting it when using a 2842? Quite low, but I can tell you for sure that I WILL spot it. You are right about this being a hobby to get as close to the genuine as possible and IMHO, I think a 2836/2824, would be closer in terms of sweep and SOME others do as well. I think in terms of sweep its all a matter of "feel good factor," rather than it being spot on, as thats pretty much impossible. Regards, VW
  2. Indeed it is Bruce! In fact, I'll be sending back the PO I received earlier this week back to him tomorrow and should receive the better version by end of the week or beginning of next week! :D
  3. I have to agree with most of the guys. I've had a Submariner with an ETA 2836-2 movement from Paul, never serviced so far and is running quite well. However I do notice some wear and tear on the watch in general, for example the threading on the crown/tube and other aesthetics's. I will eventually have the movement serviced and then have it transplanted into another watch that comes with an Asian movement Regards, VW
  4. haha.. bump... no answer to this... I'd be curious if you actually unscrewed it, but thats hard to imagine.
  5. Check out the Watch Collectors Gallery and ask the Collectors there!
  6. I've been to Italy numerous times and have come across guys in Rome and Venice selling these rip-offs. And they all get the watches from the same place our dealers get them from, at least when I asked one guy, he told me they all were from Thailand, especially made for him (bull!). Watches may come from the same production facilities, but minus the quality checks. I'd tell your friends to purchase from our dealers here. You will get a quality check from certain dealers and if there is something wrong with the watch, you'll most likely get a replacement if you are nice about it. Plus 500 Euros is WAY too much... Warranty/guarantee most likely doesn't exist in their dictionaries! Regards, VW
  7. So further recent news is that PT will have this issue corrected with his suppliers! 2842s POs he currently has in stock will be replaced by either 2824-2s or 2836-2s! Hope this info helps with anyone's next purchase from PT! He's a really good guy who'll always stick to his word and is always willing to solve a problem! The wrong movement found in the PO was basically a misunderstanding. Regards, VW
  8. This is sweet! I swear, Im becoming the biggest hypocrite! I comment on posts about how modding is too much and that you might as well buy a gen, but when I see all these pictures and read all the comments about the modding and servicing steps, I just can't resist. I think i will go full length with the PO...
  9. Well guys, I've got good news! PT is sourcing some POs with 2836s and I believe, well if I am not mistaken, 2824-2 movements as well. Supposedly there is some overstock of the 2836s somewhere and he will be able to get a couple of them. After all the research and inputs from you guys, I don't deny the ETA 2842 good or reliable, but I just feel a lot better with my PO having a 28800 bph movement. I'm going to exchange the PO I currently have with one of the other ones when PT receives them. Should be about 1 to 2 weeks times, maybe a bit longer. If anyone is still interested in purchasing POs with 2836 or 2824, you can contact PT and see what he can do for you. Seems like the 2836 is going out of production and we may only be left with the 2842... I wonder what implications this has on the rep industry, is it a move from Swatch to make it more difficult to rep a watch? Afterall, the sweep of a second hand is be a dead give away as a rep even if the entire aesthetics of the watch are dead on. Regards, VW
  10. @bruce79 Yes we shall! I will keep you guys in the loop regarding PTs answer! I'll make a post to this thread as soon as I hear something! I'm out for the night! Under the circumstances, have a good day/night! Regards, VW
  11. Its very heart-aching, isn't it? How long ago did you order the watch? If PT doesn't have a solution, I will just keep it for sometime, save up some cash and try to source a 2824-2 somewhere and have it replaced along with some other mods such as dial, bezel insert, etc, now that I know someone who can do this for me in Germany.
  12. @The Zigmeister Ya I do understand that its a reliable movement, but yes you are right, it is not what I was expecting to buy. I also feel that PT will not have a ready solution to this problem as his entire stock my have the 2842s... I'm just trying to think whether I should just live with this or whether I should go for a refund... Its a hard decision, after all the watch is bloody nice...
  13. Well I've sent PT an email and copied the link to this post for him. Either way, since i just made the purchase. I'm going to see if he can get me one with a 2824-2, otherwise I want me euros back... I don't want to have to end up buying a new movement on top of all the mods! I'm even willing to send it back to him at my costs so that he can open it up and have it compared with his supply of POs... I just ordered a watch opener, i might get it Monday or Tuesday and I can verify myself, otherwise I'm sending it back to PT. I don't blame PT however. I guess a big BIG BIG misunderstanding... I'm not [censored] at all though, in fact, I am very very sad... Heh, in fact it got me in the heart as if I were just dumped by my girlfriend. Is this what has become of us watch fanatics, dependent on having everything correct?! Well not necessarily everything, but the sweep, DEFINITELY!!!!!! Regards, VW
  14. That explains the mix up... PT thought it was 2842 when it really is a 2824... A mix up between the numbers... Damn that sucks a lot. Is there anyway to transplant the 2836 from the sub to the PO?
  15. I've just sent PT another email, asking him to check the sweeps on a few POs, if he has some available. If this sweep is consistent with all his POs, could it be possible that its a manufacturing flaw or that they changed something in the movement?
  16. Thanks for the input bruce79. PT did say that all his latest POs ordered from China have this specific movement rate, which he said was the 2824-2... The movement may not actually be bad in terms of reliability, its just slower... Thats somewhat annoying. You can probably mod this watch up to wazoo, but one will still notice its a rep due to the sweep... Of course you can get the movement replaced, but then again whats the point of that, it would be easier getting a whole new watch.... Sigh..... Is there anything that can be done to modify this movement to get a better sweep, supposing its not dirty or the escape and pallets are not gummed?
  17. Hmm thanks for the clarification The Zigmeister... Well, honestly, I'm not entirely sure about the 3 ticks, but it just seems that there are 3 or 4 ticks between each second. Maybe thats just a trick of the eye.. I don't think I'm being mislead intentionally, PT himself mentioned that the movements of all the PO he's ordered as recent as September all have this kind of movement. I believe PT is quite the gentleman and an established/honest dealer and if he says it is a 2824, then it should be. Erm actually I'd like to clarify that he said its a 2824-2 movement, but I doubt it should make much of a difference? However without opening the case back, we'll never be entirely sure and thats the problem actually. I'd LOVE to get the back open, I've tried every method, such as the rubber glove, tape method. That thing is sealed tight and I believe I won't get it open unless I've got the correct tool for it! Plus when I hold the watch in my hand and wind it by shaking it, I can hear the rotor spin louder than that on my Sub. Is it possible the sweep may not seem as smooth due to the PO having a longer center second hand than that of the sub? [censored], this is all to worrying...
  18. Just go to members tab at the top, find TTK or Narikaa and then PM them personally! I think that should get you towards the right direction.
  19. Haha, nice timing eh? Glad this helped somewhat!
  20. Well I just received an update from our good friend PT. The movement is indeed ETA. The reason why its not as smooth as that of my Sub is because there is a variation of smoothness in sweeps between the ETA movements. The PO I have or that PT sells, have the ETA 2824 movement which is not as smooth as that of an ETA 2836-2 movement which my 2.5 years old Sub has. PT confirmed by taking a look at the movement of his batch of POs which mine stems from... So I'm quit relieved!
  21. Does the second hand on the PO with ETA movement sweep very smoothly or does it seem as if there are 3 ticks followed by 3 ticks, etc.? Maybe its just my eyes, but it feels like that my 2 year old Sub is much smoother... I may try the tape removal method to see if its an ETA... I guess this post should be directed to those who bought their POs SPECIFICALLY from Precious Time as mine is from him as well. I wish I could take pictures of the watch, unfortunately, no cam available.. Regards, VW
  22. OMG... This is too hilarious... However, I believe they hand picked the people rather than choose them randomly. At least they cut out the ones who answered correctly... They always do this in these kinds of videos... Anyways, don't let that kill the fun of it!
  23. rkdk, thanks for the clarification... Sorry if you misunderstood Vbarrett. I wasn't attacking you!!! Please, I couldn't! I was only referring to you regarding the first few sentences about the Pope and Imams, just trying to clarify how the structure is. Yes and as rkdk said, the rest is a comment to the thread. I admire you! The Watch Queen! I hope too, one day that I will own as many reps as you! anyways! Peace in the middle east! hehe! Lets go back to the subject we are all here for and we all love! WATCHES!
  24. Well Vbarret, I believe you are a little off there on that first part. Were Catholics follow one leader of the Church, Muslims don't follow one supreme leader of their institution. Imams, more like bishops, have the highest seats in Islam and there are thousands if not more of them. If one Imam tells his community to kill all Christians, his face should be spat on by his community/members, sure he may say it is up to ALL Muslims to follow this out, but each Imam and their community have somewhat different views of the Koran and the religion. So not all Muslims WILL do things about it just like protestants may frown upon the fact that Catholic priests are indulging themselves in the sin of pedophilia, but do you see them chasing Catholic priests with AK47s? No, not really. Christianity is unfortunately too much alike in many ways. And let us not forget the Crusades. Essentially they are the same thing as a Jihad. The Crusades may have happened over a 1000 years ago and Jihads are still on going, but you can't deny that Christianity has lost its touch. Would Christians be AS faithful and as religious as a lot of Muslims are to this day, then probably the Vatican city would still encompass its old Holy Roman Empire Size and possibly would have the largest army in the world to do who knows what! And if that were the case as well, then MILLIONS of people would do what the Pope would say, even if he said to go around and start killing people who go against Catholic beliefs. I am sure of that. Now i know many may not agree, but you can't expect to talk about Islam and how no Muslim's are doing anything to stop it or speak up against it. I find that totally wrong, you have many trying to do something against, only the media presence is not high. What are you supposed to do if 3/4ths of all world media is anti-Islamic? You really think Fox Network will make a special about how Muslims are helping to fight terrorism? Lol maybe they have and I haven't heard about it, but I somehow doubt that. The majority of my friends are Muslims as I have lived in the Middle East all my life and all of them frown upon terrorist acts, but what should the in YOUR HONEST OPINION DO? Donate all their money to a machine of anti-terrorism, go to their local news broadcast and make a statement? Lol... What CAN they do? And really, one thing I tolerate LESS than terrorism is ignorance. In my opinion, i think thats the root of all evil. And yes terrorists as well I believe are ignorant. Ignorance allows you to do things justified to yourself, when in reality its not justifiable at all, but its because you just don't KNOW! I am not religious. I was baptized a Catholic, but I unfortunately don't believe in what most of the Bible says, ya you could say I'm a faithless man, whatever... Its true, but I hate it when people bash others for their beliefs. Extreme beliefs may be wrong, killing someone in the name of your religion is wrong. But enough Islam-bashing, not everyone will get up and do something about it, there are many wrong-doings in the Christian world and many don't say anything. It making me sick. I understand many of you have lost friends to these attacks from terrorists and its damn wrong and I hope the remaining terrorists get incarcerated for the rest of their lives... But many people lost friends and family due to disease and illness, who were very religious and lived good and fulfilling lives and never did anything wrong... Who MAY their families end up blaming??? Osama Bin Ladin? No.... Jesus, God? Hmmm..... Thats a thought... Lets REALLY not go there, because I could go on about this forever... This all started out about whether someone could SAFELY wear a watch into the ME without getting caught! SO LET IT STAY THAT WAY!!!!!!!!
  25. Wow... I just woke up, and this is better than a cup of coffee! LMFAO!!! Haha TTK, we love you man!!!
