  1. I've been toying with the idea of ordering from one of the Hong Kong or India tailors that do bespoke suits and shirts online. No real reason in this day and age that I can't get my measurements here then let someone do the cutting and sewing somewhere with cheap labor. I know that must make a proper tailor cringe, but I just can't justify spending thousands on suits anymore, not with the casual nature of my current job. It costs about the same as a rep suit, just without the label, and you can order swatches or send them your own fabric if you want.

To my knowledge, no one has ever looked at my jacket label anyway. I've known people who would take a stab at the deigner from the cut, just making conversation, or notice a particularly nice material. As far as suits go I think the fit, cut, fabric, and construction are FAR more important than label.

Totally agree on the last paragraph.

As for bespoke suits/shirts, i have taken that route and luckily there happens to be a travelling tailor that comes by the city as well as other cities to take measurements. The costs are the same as if you went in to your local Express/Zara store but the customization of cuffs and collars, choice of cloths and the lovely monogram make it unbelievable for the value. I'd highly recommend it, the guys at styleforums.com recommend it as well.

  2. I don't see what the problem is... maybe its the fact that they lack the modernized machinery that we have to 'slaughter' the animals for consumption? the end result is the same either way; the animal is killed and is then consumed. Maybe you should visit one of these slaughter/processing plants to view the sheer brutality which in the end turns out as your steak, drumstick or pork chop?

  3. I should really let a Canadian answer this, but that's never stopped me from putting my oar in before. :p

    No.

    canadian_tire_store.jpg

As a veteran of many a Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night, I can tell you, almost every telly advert is a Canadian Tire one. Sheesh.

They make it seem like Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and Disney World all joined together (the other telly adverts are all Tim Horton's).

@TeeJay: Soooo. Now we know why you REALLY wear reps. :o;)

@Predfan: Incredible -- they sell Omegas at Costco?? I should stop hanging around the Babel Tower-sized paper towels. BTW, I believe it. One of my condo porters wears a gen Sub. He got it at a pawn shop, but I told him where to get it serviced at an AD.

    LOL @ post.........

and Costco also sells Rolex's too

  4. EMSprogress-1.jpg

    March 7th. 2008.

Been waiting since last Monday ( March 3rd. )

I had ordered a Breitling Superocean Heritage from Watchmark.

The tracking no. had been sent and worked , on the Chinese EMS website, from the second day.

Posted, Nanning, arrived at sorting office, despatched from sorting office.

Arrived Guangzhou sorting office, despached from Guangzhou.

Then nothing for 18 hours, " no trace of tracked Item".

    Bugger.

Thought that I would try International Australia Post.

EMS123456789CN, en route to destination, Australia. WHOOPEE.

Arrival at destination, awaiting clearance, 1 hour later, cleared for delivery.

Now anyone that has used EMS tracking knows full well that this is not the end of it.

Despached to postal Hub, ( they have to drag it out , to make you think that the system is flowing smoothly.)

Cleared for delivery at postal Hub, at 18-30 hrs.

Great , we can be fairly certain that we are going to receive our precious parcel to-morrow.

Morning comes, 9.00 am. ..... no sign of courier vans or Australia Post vans on the road.

    12.00...... mid-day.......... ditto. ditto.

We all know that when we have ordered a rep watch, that all other transport should not be on the roads,

this is to give complete clear passage of OUR delivery van, we will get it faster that way.

You will not believe what happened next.

I had just finished my quick , hurried lunch, ( even had a touch of indigestion ), when I saw THE van pull up

on the main road ,outside my house, within seconds , a beat up old Mazda, slammed banged right into the back of MY van.

It was bad, very bad, and the noise of the collision......OMG.

I , grabbed the phone and rang emergency 000, for an ambulance, before running out side to see if I could assist in any way. Smoke was starting to come out of MY van, the driver of the old Mazda, was unhurt and was starting to get out of the wreck.

The driver of my van was badly dazed and appeared to have his legs trapped, then the smoke turned to FIRE, oh [censored],

Myself and the other driver managed to get the passenger door open , and just grabbed the Australia Post driver`s legs,

    and started pulling................

Just like I am pulling yours now.

PS. still havn`t received my package yet, but thought I would fill in with a bit of suspense.

    OMG... my eyes

    are hurting from what

    you wrote because its

typed like this and I don't know

    why.

  5. I have uploaded the video on my rapidshare server, please check the 'Off Topic' section to view my post for the download links.

Part 2 airs on Monday if I recall

  6. Ah. I see.

This "holes in condoms" factoid sounded too much like an urban legend to believe.

But they lay themselves open to the charge since they're replicating EVERYTHING, and with shoddy "quality assessment" for extra craps and giggles.

The watches, the lighters, the suits, the pens: that's one thing. But anything which affects human health, like rep cars, medicines and subpar condoms -- that's not even greediness. That's would-be homicide.

I'm not much into Ralph Naderism, but this is what consumer advocacy was made for. A shame it'll take the Chinese YEARS to find it out.

It's funny because with the lack of QC and health concerns of Chinese products and all, the life expectancy difference between China and the US is a mere 5 years.

I really doubt they have holes in them...

They were prob some generic Chinese made condoms (a few cents for a pack),

"re-branded" as Durex and sold for a few dollars a pack.

I agree, its more so propaganda on the part of the big companies

  7. It's an industry worth #10 billion a year in the UK alone, already making up 7% of World Trade - and its the fastest growing sector of the global economy. In this new series we go on a global journey that asks: if fakes define us, what have we become?

I stumbled upon this great 2-part documentary about the fake trade and I suggest you folks check it out as it is quite an eye opener. Episode 1 aired yesterday on Channel 4 in the UK however I did download the torrent for the show.

Clips can be found here: http://www.channel4.com/video/the-fake-tra...p=docpage_flash
