  1. HA!! If it is any consulation to you, I am sure you play better than I sing!! BTW, went to my local Borders last nite they list 2 versions of "Eye of the Telescope" first one is no longer available, but it looks like a 'delux' version will be re-released later this month. I'll keep looking for it.
  2. Apologies about the presumption, but i think we are going to have to agree to disagree. It is true that Waits lyrics remain dark, but I find the more recent recordings to be focused on the real as opposed to the surreal.. More moralistic and tangable... at least that is the vibe i get. Agreed, Brennan has probably added this influence. FYI, I just visited my local starbucks (daily fix) the latte is mediocre, but the cds sold are high quality, at least some are anyway. Revolver, Who's Next, Pear Jam's latest are just a few.
  3. I do not agree with that at all. I really enjoyed "Alice" and "Blood Money" less so "Real Gone" but is probably an average album, but still, I think your appraisal is unduly harsh. I think sometimes fans become take on an overly critical and at times, even arrogant posture with artists who stay on the scene for a long period of time.. it is the 'purist' syndrom; the artist is not supposed to change their perspective or style as they mature, because the fans want them to stay the same. I remember when the outcry of 'sellout when U2 cut Joshua Tree and went mainstream. Prior to that they had a very dedicated but sort of underground following... many of their fans acted as if they were personally insulted, like how dare they change. To me it is the hieght of arrogance to think the artist is recording for you alone and dare not make changes that reflect thier own situation or where they are at that particulaur point in time. Nobody stays the same, including us, why should they? Just take the album for what is... judge it on its own merits I listened to the Dylan album for the first time this morning. Generally I need to go thru a record a few times before I get the feel of it, but my initial impression was fairly positive.. not as good as Time out of Mind, but again a different kind of album with a different vibe. As to the 'Starbucks' comment, that strikes me as being extremely dissmissive and not worth further commenting on.
  4. I am not really familiar with the work, but i think the artist may be eylind earle
  5. I agree with both you and Ken.. Andrew is a very reliable and honorable dearler and you are very magnanamous. And I certainly would not blame a dealer who went so far as to post a seller' personal data as a last resort, afterall, nobody likes to get ripped-off. It is just that in this case it does not appear that the crisis point that would warrant that action was reached... there was other avenues of recourse available. I guess this is just a hot button for me but the world is so small... I would not at all be comfortable with having my personal information displayed in a public forum. If it can be erased, I would ask the mods to do so. Just
  6. Sounds great... I will try to get it today.
  7. That is actually Stills doing Black Queen... it is on his first solo album as well as live CSNY recordings. great song though.... he also did a live album that has a kick a$$ acoustic side... called Stephen Stills Live. If you like Black Queen you will love an acoustic verison of "Cross Roads/ You Can't Catch Me" Unbelieveable stuff.
  8. i am not sure how one checks to see thier staus, but your banner says RWG SUPPORTER....
  9. Just curious... do we know the ratio of supporting vs non-supporting members? I think it is understandable for the newer members to be hesitant to pony up, but it is especially odd for longstanding members who have, and continue to benefit from the knowledge base of the memebers and access to the dealers. The dealer section alone is worth the price of admission (more really) I mean think about it.. despite the fact that this hobby is akin to participating in a blackmarket, we have access to very reputable suppliers who provide an astonishinly high grade prodict. Not sure how you would get that access otherwise. And than there is the pure entertainment value that comes with following TTK's post!! How can you beat it!!? I like the proposals that focused on limited features for non-paying members and full features for paying members, but if we go that way, i think we need to take care with new members who may not be comfortable in paying up without fully understanding what a great place this is. If I were looking at the site for the first time, and was solicited for a payment membership, i might think this was an attempt to rip me off. Maybe a 3 month grace period? Finally, although I am a bit late with this, I would like to extend personal thanks to the admins and moderators. I am sure this is an extremely time consuming board to run, and your involvement comes at great personal and perhaps even monetary sacrafice. I kinda feel bad about that it took this thread to acknowledge your contributions and to thank you for them. mea cupla.
  10. I hate to ask this question without first puttin on my firesuit, and I mean no disrespect, but given the above e-mail exchange, is anyone here besides me a bit uncomfortable that Paul's name and address were posted? Again no disrespect intended,, Andrew seems like a reputable guy, ut it seems to me that before posting someone's personal information on this fourm, all other avenues should be pursued. Of course we may not be privy to all the facts, but based on what whay we do know, it would seem that in his instance, there was communication and follow-up, even an offer to rectify by paying through WU payment. Of course, we do not know if that offer was responded to...
  11. a whoa!, man you just upped the ante!!! buffalo springfield is an all time favorite of mine, as is stephen stills who imho is perhaps the most underated guitar player of all time. stills did a solo album last year.. "Man Alive" which is the best work he has done since his manassas days... you should check it out... you also might want to try the first manassas album if you have not already
  12. honestly? i p[refer dylan's low key version to all the covers, although I do rate matthews' a second. As much as I love hendrix, for some reason, his cover of that song doesn't do it for me.
  13. you can call me ed for short... believe it or not, waits' voice has not changed at all in 30 years, he has always sounded like that
  14. Wow. I have a feeling that the same thing almost happened to me in Rome last year. Similar placard and process but the call would not go thru so I hung up before the call could be completed. Thanks for sharing
  15. I agree with both your comments on Dave Matthews... good musicians who produce high quality pop records and their version of All Along the Watch Tower is top shelf.
  16. Tom Waits on prozac... Anyway, Tom Wiats is another example of a resurgent career... I used to see him in collage.. almost 30 years ago (OMG!!!) Oh well.. maybe I need to reinvigorate MY career....!
  17. Great watch. Is this the Josh version?
  18. LOL.... Is your name Tom, or Jerry?
  19. I was just talking about this with the g/f.. this is my next album. Of course Dylan was always great so resurgence is probably not the right word to use here, but i DO find it interesting how a number of more veteren rockers are seeing a resurgence in the quality and commerical appeal of their work. Van Morrison, Mark Knoppler/Emmy Lou Harris, Levon Helm.... I have been stuck on a Stephen Stills album that came out about a year ago... most of these aritists have lost something off their fastball in terms of the range of their voices, but the body of their work and the depth of the songs is just outstanding, as is musicianship... these guys are all pros. In terms of a recent dylan discography try "Time out of Mind" it is great. Also, you might also enjoy the 30 anniversity collection which is a collaberation of dylan songs performed live by various artsists who have covered his older work.
  20. I keep saying I am goign to get off my soapbox on this, but somehow I cannot help myself.... first I am sorry about what has happened to Andrew, and hope it can be worked out. I have purchased 1 watch form him.. he is a great guy and provides a great service... ...BUT... When i compare the visceral reaction to aAndrew's plight against the ather subdued reactions to PAM1A's experience with Angus as reported in a previous thread, I am absolutly flabergasted. Presumably, both got hosed (although the jury is not entirely in in andrew's case) ... but people are literaly ready to knock on doors to find the guy who hosed andrew. By comaprsion, as a group we were very lacklustyer for PAM1a . Meanwhile, I cannot help but wonder if PAM ever got his watch or a refund, and again ask, where is the outrage? I am sorry I keep harping on this but in general as a community, we have at least as much of a vested interest in assuring sellers are not ripped off as we do buyers. If it happens to one of us, it can happen to any of us. 2 other obersvations and i will shut up: 1. We've seen this story before. In most instances, there were reasons why purchasers acted the way they did. We may not (and i certainly do not) have agreed with those reasons, but in retrospect, there were at least reasons beyond the seller wanting to rip the buyer off. That may or may not be the case here, but given there are people on this board who have had expericences with this guy before, I for one think it is prudent to see what happens once he is contacted before passing final judgment 2 This person is not a noobie. Please remember that the next time we want to place restictions on new members as a reaction to this kind of stuff OK, just my 2 cents.. take it with how many grains of salt you wish. I am now offically off the soapbox again... -
  21. Bill Mahr fan?
  22. These are great shots of great watches.. I have the SMP with an aftermarket insert.. darker matte finish, more purpley than the electric blue that came with the original.. not sure which is correct to the gen, but I really like it. The PO with the orange numerics may very well be my next purchase.. i think that is a hot watch.
