  1. As cool as the Egiziano is, there just comes a point where size is simply ridiculous.

A baby E, on the other hand, could be pretty cool. Still not sure I could wear one, but it would be much more realistic than the giant E.

    Your comment is cozy.

But do not forget that the Egiziano was an order, made for a specific reason, and not for promenade parade, some years later,by wackos like us. No? ;)

  2. Hi

So I broke down and ordered a 127 from Angus after reading this thread....

3rd PAM this month thanks to you guys !!!!

I found out yesterday that he is unable to get the movement from his supplier and is unable to build currently. He offered to refund the $$ or pick another watch.

Im curious if the movement he is unable to get is the same that Davidsen has posted about today.

I was thinking PureTime was using the Asian High Beat.... any word on those being out of stock as well?

What ever do I do, Should I go with another dealer? Pick another watch from Angus?

Seeing as I have a 111H and 104 ( on the way ) What is another winner from Angus to complete the collection.

    WOW, the addiction.... HELP

PS.... Has anyone had much contact with PT this week? He has been fairly slow getting back to me , Im guessing he is still recovering from the Birthday celebrations

Buy the 217.Same watch, only different mentality

  3. pamwrist.jpg

Got this sucker from DSN a little while back. It is one of my nicest watches, gen included and has been a great addition to the stable. The best part about the higher end Panerai replicas is that you get all the upside without laying out thousands of dollars. I gotta say, after seeing and learning about these watches here, I'd say you'd have to be a complete idiot to spend thousands on a genuine Panerai or any watch that uses an ETA movement. I've got no problem with a $350 dollar rep that gets not just the look but the feel of quality that a gen would have.

After waiting for weeks for straps to show up, I decided to just make my own - which I'm wearing in this wrist shot. Leather straps are great - homemade leather straps are really satisfying to wear (especially when leather came from my late Grandfather who ran a leather tannery).

To sum up: DSN PVD 111 worh every penny...so far. (fingers crossed)

Very nice watch.Enjoy it until a new thing comes along.

BTW,those who spend thousands on gen watches are not idiots .Simply they have the money .Nothing more ,nothing less

  4. A day late, my mailman finally showed up with my PAM 229. Apparently I have one of the first (and only) five made so far. More will be released in 2 weeks but I wanted you all to see it in the wild.

Overall impressions are good. The dial is glossy metallic, like DSNs 082, BUT it's more purple than blue. I'm not sure if that's good or bad since I've never seen a gen in my hand. I have seen photos and it's a tough call. I'll leave that open to debate amongst the forums. You need something new to debate anyways. Keep in mind, there are only 100 gens of these so it's doubtful that many people have seen this in their hand either. I'm not so sure someone would call this out as a rep based on dial shade alone.

QC out of the box was a little lacking. My CG screws were not tight and one of the strap screws was forced into the thread. I had to WD40 it and use some pliers to unscrew it. I've had to replace that one with a springbar I luckily had in my spares. The lume is ok, not super lume standards, but fades pretty quickly. I couldn't get a lume shot at the moment due to too much light coming into where I have my camera setup. I'll get one later tonight when it's dark.

Build quality wise, it looks and feels good. Solid watch, nice weight. Date is nice and easy to read. Once I tightened the CG, my lever stays locked, nice and tight. It flops about when open but they all do. I took most of these in my light tent setup but I took a wristshot under different lighting so you could see the color change on the dial. In some lights it's blue, and in others it's more purple. The color is right in the fringe area of both blue and purple. Ok, I'll shut up now and bring on the pics.

Oh,and btw, so much fuzz some time ago ,about the raised lettering that was supposed to protect and identify the gen rom the reps.

Just have a look at the backplate

  5. No offense, but I don't think I'd be going to that watchmaker...

I can "see" your point, but he is a mender. He is able to cure a sick watch, and I 've seen DEAD and gone thingies, in his hands, getting new life.

Most of all he has no gains in telling me that a movement is cheap and dirty or gen, since I am not buying watches from him, because he is not selling.

His attitude is pure pro and he is charging peanuts for his services.

My knowledge in movement things are ZERO, as far as mechanics are the subject, therefore I have to rely on what he says. If he gets it wrong ,then I say wrong too. That simple

  6. Hi Guys,

I posed a question yesterday about what exactly was a super rep and got some varied responses. I did search on the board and it seems that as far as Panerai goes, there aren't many Super Rep's out there, at least none discussed on this forum.

I then performed some searching on the internet and found a company called SwissExpert.net who claims to have perfect replica's (don't they all). Well one thing that caught my eye was first of all the price, they're selling their reps for 850 a piece with a 30% discount on the 2nd watch, I guess this gives you an idea on the mark-up. Furthermore they offer a 10 day money back guarantee. Lastly the 1950 I was looking for is there and seems pretty darn nice.

So the question I have, having looked at their site, has anyone done business with them? Also, I noticed in their advertisement of the 1950 that it didn't have the canon pinion fix, but I'm not sure from the photos I've seen of a 1950 (PAM 127) if it indeed has a recessed canon pinion... Help, should I just go with Angus or DSN for my PAM 127 or try the super rep route with someone who's charging nearly double? Any feedback is definitely appreciated!

    Best,

    Eddie

    Hi,

I don't know your expertise in watches and movements.

Mine is equal to an amateur 4th division level.

But my watch restorer is adamant in saying that, contemporary china made movements, are ( in his words) " winding" better than many supposedly superior swiss made ones.

As for 6497 movements,he says, that they are very good ultra reliable workhorse machines, and are a breeze to restore even if they are damaged to a certain point.

He says that 6497 and all the similar breed of movements ,are an apprentice watchmaker's, first day in school course.

  7. I doupt that DIEVAS has breached any copy right and the cost includes a SWISS movement and not a Chiss or swinese one, also a years garantee from a public legal firm.

    I dunno, just asking ,really.

It would be very interesting ,I think, if Dieva ,state a clarification on it.( If they do care to...) Don't you think so?

  8. I have just been loking at those homages and at $520 for a legal and warentted watch not a bad option IMHO

have a look at the home site

    Hi,

I 'd like to ask a couple of innocent questions.

What makes those DIEVAS legal ?

A royalties payment agreement with Panerai ,or there is no more patent exclusivity on behalf of the owner,(design etc)?

    As for the price, $ 520 is quite high,for a replica,that one can buy for a mere $ 200 to $ 220

  9. Sadly, the cash needs to go into a bank account (tomorrow would be the earliest) and then the order would have to be made (busy all day tuesday, so that means tuesday evening) That would then mean the strap would have to be posted wednesday, and that might then arrive monday rather than saturday... It's short notice, and I should've thought of this earlier, but, buying a strap outright would be cutting things a bit close...

That'll be fantastic, thanks, I'll PM you my details, and, needed or not, the

  10. Well.. it has been a long time since a nice panerai competition / giveaway...

There are two questions... 1st is knowledge and 2nd is luck. The one who answers both correctly (in the second one if you are close enough I will consider it correct) will get a surprise strap.

    1st:

What is this ship in the following photo? (and I do not mean the name of the ship :p )

    shipor8.jpg

    2nd:

What Serial Nr. has my OEM Panerai 112 ?

    GOOD LUCK :D

P.S. In case Imageshack is not working here is the photo of the ship attached:

The ship, is simply, a Pam watch carrier ,as for the serial number of your 112,how should I know?

  11. I've been a watch "enthusiast" for a few years now, and I've been an Avid Omega fan since a kid. As some of you know, I just fell in love with PAMs recently, and just purchased a modded 177H.

when I show friends and family what I got, they are all like "Panerai? what brand is that? is it good?"

I must admit that even just as recently as 3 years ago, I had not really heard of Panerai............. but pretty much everyone who likes watches knows about Rolex, Omega, Movado, Breitling, Tag Heuer, IWC, Patek, etc, etc, but not many have heard of Panerai.

    so what's the history here?

I want to get educated :)

Some will say, that it is a kind of sterotype answer, non too intellectual, but quality is a very very difficult thing to appreciate.

    Panerai is simply that.Pure quality

  12. We who collect rep Pams are fairly well versed in the ins and outs of this watch brand even though we are collecting replicas, the general knowledge base is quite impressive. A couple of days ago, a fellow came into my place of business and I observed him wearing a nice Panerai. I see quite an array of watches every day, and complimented the guy on his pam. He took it off, gave it to me, and it was heavy, let me tell you, "!8K white gold, edition of 150" he said It had a date on it so it was clearly a luminor automatic, but he did not know what number it was when I said that I had a 111 and a 127. (I stopped there), but found it quite something that a person with a 20 thousand dollar watch did not know what it was he had. There are many Pam models and I am able to identify most, but not all, so I had to look up what he had, and it was the Panerai model 180. Funny how people take some things in stride.

    pam180g2ahb8.jpg

    That's life.

Some people simply "fork out" sums of mojo, for a nice stereo setee for the living room and put their $ 20000 loudspeakers behind big upholstery couches.

Some use their cars and park them outside the cafeteria just for the show. Some are buying watches and other jewellery because they want to adorn their

complex carrying personas to levels beyond reach.

And excuse me, that's not funny

  13. browsing the bay .. saw a horride sight.. ss bracelet for the fiddy for those of you who really want one.... IMHO it would shatter the estetics of the classic look of the 127.. but if your inclined to bling.. it's a big one..

    post-2172-1194919762_thumb.jpg <_<:bangin::yawn:

..stealing from the value vs price of the 127,climbing to crude oil levels

Is it going to be the bracelet to a Panerai made one aka gen,or a dreaded replica aka fake B)B) ?

Some say it can sing and dance...

  14. First off - as the owner of a GEN 127 - let me say: HURRAAAHHHHH!!!!

Ok - IF the 127 was actually selling for $20K - I would be very happy - even if I never plan to sell mine. But the $20K advertised price is just that - an ADVERTISED price.

These watches are realistically selling in the $14K-$16K range at this time. That's still a lot of money for a watch that has less than $300 worth of materials in it - right?

But that's the nature of luxury goods. They are NEVER worth the sum of their parts. Do you think if you buy a car that costs over $100,000 that the materials used in it are any better than a car costing $10,000? To a certain degree - YES. But not 10 times as much.

You are paying for the NAME and that's about it.

Still - $20,000 for a watch which there are less than 2,000 in the WORLD to me is a pretty good deal.

And for anyone that thinks a rep is just as good as the real thing - all I can say is - a fake is a fake is a fake. Those that can afford it understand what it's all about. Those that don't - buy copies.

    Just because you said it.

No one will insist that a fake is a real.

But many will say that a replica is just that. A copy of a model. By using words correctly ,you can even say that, the first item that is made is the original.Every thing after that, is a replica of it.

If this is acceptable, there is no reason to argue for fake and reals. A Chinese computer operated lathe is not beter or worse than a Swiss or an American one.

Therefore, personally I don't care too much if my replica,if it is a replica and not a bad model,

is made in China or Italy or Swiss.

Come to watches, the exclusivity surely demands OTT prices, but that doesn't mean value.

There is no measures for price. If your pocket carries the monies there you go.(My pocket does not)

    Enjoy your choices.

  15. Having trouble with my 192 case and getting it oxidised evenly.

Bracelet no problem - lovely dark tantalum colour, but just can't get the case right, tried numerous times, numerous recipes, including pre-treatment with acetic acid and soap/water to remove oils, but no dice - VERY frsutrating

Can anyone provide any further advice or even offer to do the case for me, for a fee of course?

Try some elbow grease. It works fine for "oxidising " steel items.

  16. $20k for a Fiddy is a total & complete joke. The Fiddy is nothing but a charlatan - disguising its less than $300 manufacturing price.

Ah(t) last.Sanity is an acceptable state of mind for some.

It is even less than that( $300). I can't help but wonder, why some consumers think that their money are buying equivalent values to their real value.

If we accept, that there are no cheap or expensive products or commodities, only people with money and people with no money,we can understand the difference between price and value.

Just as Vb said, the 127 is a $ 20000 and the 217 only $11000. The reason as said is marketability. The cost is exactly the same.(less than $300)

But 1950 pieces is a drop in the watch oceans. And exclusivity as you know....

To quote from a TV interview about forbidden actions."...I am selling, love....Do you have to buy????
