  1. Raised lettering as an anticounterfeit measure? The corridors at the replicators chambers are echoing the laughter
  2. If I was out to scam ppl....I could have just listed the price lower...... and still earn a good profit and run..... There you said it. Could you please , be kind and explain, what do you mean by " and still earn a good profit and run". 1. That if the bait was bitten, your profit was going to be very very good ? 2. That you were trying to give a helping hand ,by using your connections, for some gen movements. 3. That you simply don't know what are you talkin' about? Take your pick
  3. At last, some clear words. I really fail to grasp all those ping - pong postings about the subject. Just for the record... Today I went to buy a strap from a friend who happens to be a watch restorer.Over talking ,I let him see my rep Panerai "Blackseal",bought 20 days ago,for 140 Euros. Just imagine amazement when he told me that the movement is a gen Unitas 6497-2,and that his face was very serious, au contraire, to previous times . To my, "stop pulling my leg",he told me that he knows his trade, and that he is in the position to know the movements, from the various bits and pieces. Judging by this, and in relation to the various posts in here , I have to say that the $ 400 to $ 500 rep watch, is a little bit ..........
  4. You can do nicely by choosing one of the Radiomir models. This piece is one of the simplest but very elegant designs. If you like the styling, you will be impressed by the functionality and the ease of wearing one.
  5. Don't do it.Panerai is just a watch and naval meter maker. It was here before . Many of them users, males, are wackos, rambo wannabes, and they sleep wearing army uniforms.I know many. That crown guard is for them, some sort of symbol for their imaginable masculinity. Ah,and most of the time they smoke strange mixtures PS It would be so nice,to get no angry responses and adjectives for this....
  6. Thanks for the guide. By the way. My sis had, and still has,a big sewing machine that operates with a foot pedal . It is made by Singer England.Big thing. No wires no motors. It is still a machine though.
  7. I would like to post a final line for the subject ,since my posts kept it hot, somehow. My intention was not to abuse or dispute the lines of those that have an opinion of the subject. I was just trying to shed some light on this debate, with a little help from the experience that I've gained from my pro activity. Do not forget ,that I am a customs broker operating in EEC,and this debate is almost every day on the agenda ,while dealing with them customs officers. Hand made ,as they are, more often than not ,happy to to prove a product,we,BROKERS,present documents and certificates ,in order to prove that is not so. Mind you ,hand made products are more heavy on taxes, and sport higher invoiced prices. If we can be persuasive in our dealing, and our documents and certificates from all around the world commerce chambers, declare that the handiwork is less than sixty percent, aka more machine work ,we come out 'winners",saving a lot of money on behalf of our customers(importers). That is the field I was telling, and these are some of the tools of my trade. Case dismissed PS Thank God you aren't a customs officer in EEC. :D PS 2 Can you please send me some advice, about the tools needed for strap making. I am thinking that the use of a thin fishing thread for stitchin' is an interesting variation( more invisible) Have you ever tried it? Thanks
  8. There's no need to argue. There's no argument at all. Make a comment, if you know the subject, about the 'swiss made' label. How much, of a watch work and materials is needed , to be labeled , Swiss Made? That is directly related to our polite exchange of opinions in here. PS That percentage I am referring to, is a market accepted ratio not my own estimation
  9. Classic situation for trying to pass seaweed for silk ribbons (smells fishy) It's 99.5 percent accuracy is like saying ,"Yves Saint Dior"

    PAM 183

No sandwich dial. Its paint on black.
  11. There is no such thing as being rude in a well mannered exchange of opinions. That remark was not needed I ll try to say it in everyday language. '" The total contribution of the aid, that the use of machinery adds, is not to the point to say, that the product is not hand made " It is only a matter of product management economics. Hope that is more clear now
  12. Sorry, for not making it clear.By "field" I mean the market. Don't be surprised by the seemingly high percentage of machine aided, added value. For example: The dyeing of the leather used, in the fist place ,the polishing of the edges after the cutting and the stitching ,don't add up to it. That is different than, using presses to cut and slice the leather, glue it with sonics ,clear the edges etc.etc., in a production line Anyway, the point is, that the guy, as a good artisan, has no second thoughts, sharing his art with all interested
  13. I agree. They don't give a camel's hair ,as long as, they can sell tens of thousands, of them rep Rolexes and spread butter on their bread every day. After all PANERAI is a niche product , for them, a lunatic fringe.
  14. These days {present},and some time in the past, the term hand made is ,was, used to mark a product of being made manually, more often than not, adding an exotic, special aura to it, and a higher selling price to boot, but never a better product The fine distinction between the use of machinery for detailing and time consuming finishing touches,is very difficult to quantify as a measure of labeling a product as hand made or not. It is accepted, in the field ,that if the added machine work is less than 40 percent in absolute values, the term "hand made" is justified
  15. The browsing hawk eye , cannot help but notice, that non of them pictured pan wearing celebrities ?, likes Radiomirs. Is this some kind of joke? Oh, Vbarret, see what I mean by,"wearing feminine jewels and perfumes ,and enjoying it" ? The Rocketman ,The Yellow Brick Road " Elton . Sorry, but I can't help it
  16. I was wondering the other day, if the memories of the first watch on your wrist are still intact. My memories go back to the "mature "age of six {6),when I was pushing hard for my dad's watch. He finally gave in and let me wear it . It was a Venus made in 1950, his marital gift at that time . First day in school , but it was the last day for the watch. Some guy gave me a push and I crushed it on a wall. Needless to say what happened back home. If you want to relate your first story , please do.
  17. I don't know, but there is something more feminine about Panerais to begin with.
  18. Right after the purchase of leathers and glue. I know some stuff for the making , but not all !!! Thanks
  19. This PS was bullseye hit. The leather is minus 9th division in the quality department. So no bending or conditioning. The only thing that stays is the 26 mm pre V . buckle, which is perfect in all respects. Tomorrow I will visit the local leather shops, I am living half a mile from down town Athens, and everything is very close to me.The amount of leather products and all the required paraphernalia is really beyond belief. With all those good infos that I have in here, it would be relatively easy to make some straps that will make the Seal a perfect "toy",and a enjoyable watch. Thanks to all of you
  20. Went to Haiti and the entire front desk hotel staff, male and female, reeked of Chanel No. 5. I felt amused, but sad at the same time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That's not so bad as it seems V. Not knowing the difference, either out of ignorance, or because of various cultural ethics,is pure innocence. BTW, I am making my own and my wife's perfumes and cosmetics, and believe me, it is very hard to make a mistake in the mix, unless of course you want to "unisexy" What I wanted to say was, that I do like a female seal warrior with a big watch, maybe with a hint of healthy envy. But I am ,"go out and STAY out ", for a man to try feminine accessories like perfumes and jewelery, and feeling good in doing so. Mind you I am not some kind of racist or finger pointer, accusing human nature. Just a matter of- wrong or right- taste.
  21. But because he thinks it somehow casts doubt about his own masculinity. In short, "if a woman wears it, does that mean I'm a bit feminine"? It's a big thing with men. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I like that . Feminine masculinity If I could only persuade my wife to wear my watches....just imagine the combined buying force .Doubled. Of course,I am in accord with females wearing "men's " watches. The opposite thought makes me shudder . "Take a whiff of my new Chanel 19 Roberta, does it fit to my tie and shirt colors "
  22. Thanks V.,and highflyingclive for the answer and pics. Today a friend gave me (sold it) a new unused black matte leather strap of the 26 mm persuasion. with thin, white stitching. Blimey, the clasp is humongous, nothing like I've ever had. But It goes like a song with the Black seal It's a beauty. The Radiomir, looks now like a fairy with high heeled boots. Sorry no pics yet The only catch is that it's still new, thick and hard to manage.Sure it will give in ,but do you know any means, to speed up the process of softening the leather? Some cream perhaps? Thanks
