  1. Actually that picture has me a little more convinced..
  2. I'm really not seeing the mid size idea unless he's wearing a suit for the whole movie.
  3. Very nice looking rep, the 42mm reps have always been a little behind the 45mm in quality but this looks like it evens the score pretty well.
  4. Once it's in the movie the reps will follow pretty quickly.. I'm not sure I can that small these days though
  5. Wow.. Another amazing project. I hope you can make enough of these to sell a few
  6. You're probably getting a fake anyway.. so just have him post it at $5 value..
  7. There are loads of very good reps, the best ones tend by the most popular genuine brands.. so Anything from Breitling, Omega, Rolex, Panerai and Hublot can be pretty good. Less know brands can vary but there are some good ones. Stick to the trusted dealers here and read up on the model you like first and you'll get some nice results. As others have said there is no perfect.. but you can get bloody close. Set realistic expectations and you'll enjoy the hobby, but expect the impossible and you'll only be disappointed.
  8. There is more real watch knowledge here than many of the genuine forums, and some amazing members whose idea of a good post isn't just their latest over priced bit of man jewelry photographed in front of their ferrari steering wheel
  9. It's good to hear the Admin team took this seriously but took time to look over the evidence properly. An accurate decision is far more important than haste in matters like this. Sql was a long term member who did contribute a lot over the years and deserved nothing less. Like most of us I haven't seen all the evidence so will respect the admins call on this. This forum almost certainly gets checked up on by law enforcement and genuine manufacturers and a community of collectors and watch enthusiasts is a lot hard to take down than a community of thieves and scammers. Collecting rep watches is probably enough of a grey area that the forum is safe, however scamming is theft and this will focus a lot of attention on us very quickly if it traces back to active members here.
  10. I do love the 46mm Top Gun.. probably my next purchase..
  11. You've probably got a much better chance of having Josh send another watch than a refund.. Margins are pretty good for these guys so it'll cost him a lot less
  12. My pick is we're going to see a lot more clone movements over the next few years, not just Rolex either. Partly this is driven by the eta shortage, and partly by the never ending push for realism from us on the boards, and the customers in china who are probably the real market for the factories. Personally I'm all for it. I'm really looking forward to stripping and servicing my first Rolex clone movement! We've been wanting better and better reps, this's is just the next step in that natural evolution
  13. Removing the date wheel and the drive pinion is easy enough.., you will still have the middle click when you pull out the crown, would be very hard to eliminate that. The crown will freely turn in that middle position so it won't feel like a date adjustment.
  14. Clone movements are just another step in making our reps more accurate, just like a/r, decent dials, and accurate crown guards. Don't forget you can't have a totally accurate modern Rolex externally with an ETA due to the crown position. If we're not going to have clone movements because they are too accurate then we may as well all buy canal st grade reps and forget the whole accuracy thing all together.
  15. The 243 was already delayed before the raids, so you'll have to wait a bit longer. I ordered a couple of weeks back, and I'm sure there's a lot more like me ahead of you in the queue !!
  16. Titanium is especially prone to this, just ask any cyclist whose been sucked in by titanium bolts and hasn't used anti seize. The better ti bolts with rolled threads are a lot less susceptible t this compared to machined threads btw. A touch of penetrating oil and the right tool usually frees things up. Somewhat ironically thread lock compound actually prevents galling too although I wouldn't use it on a case back.
  17. I have been worried for a while this this hobby was getting far to high profile for our own good. When I started on the original board it was a quiet little hobby with a few web albums for the dealers and western union payment. Today it's online orders with your credit card, tracked shipping and 4 huge forums with tens of thousands of members each. The quality and range of watches has also increased to a degree few would have predicted back when we started. I recall having a Skype chat with Neil (TTK) a few years back and he predicted this would eventually happen. Personally I think the rep market is far from finished but I can't see things staying as they are. It's too high profile and too public.
  18. Looks good. I'm not normally a gold watch fan either
  19. Great to see Rolex getting back to what made them famous. Compared to the last time they didi this it's actually a half way decent looking watch, and with the current obsession with giant wrist clocks it'd probably sell quite well too.
  20. I have a stripped down 3717 case here and there is nothing that suggests to me thats it's not solid stainless. There are certainly some low grade reps that are still plated but it's less and less common.
  21. Wait for a 3135 based version.. with Eta you can never get the crown position and the rehaut correct due to the movement dimensions and winder position.
  22. I'd have to say Ingy non chrono.. awesomely made rep, best finished case and bracelet in my option. Super reliable with just a regular Eta 2824 inside. An AR coated crystal is the only mod they really needed, although the macro lens crowd sometimes do date wheels too.
  23. I'd wait myself.. the 3135 movement has just been replicated so there will be a bunch of much more accurate reps coming along this year. The movement has a few teething problems for now but they will get sorted in time
  24. It's probably fixable.. but with no easy parts supply and dodgy build quality it's hard to know. I love the fact that the factories are replicating some of the more complex models, but I'm still very hesitant about these complications.. the reliability isn't especially good.
  25. Yes the only Interlagos rep I've seen to date was ok but nothing special, the blue was wrong, and the winding rotor was miles off. Theres no reason a good one can't be made though. Personally I'm holding out for the Suzuka model.. I tried on a genuine recently and it's quite stunning in person.
