  1. I guess it would go something like this in Pugs house - Now my version of how it's done MY WAY
  2. Agreed on the axe man on a rampage vs the gun man on a rampage, but as far as I see it, I personally would rather have a dead man in my house that attacked me or my family becuase I shot him than a live one that might escape to do it again. And it's not that I sit around talking to my gun hoping I can use it. Believe me, it is the last thing I want to do! But if someone puts me in the position of a "it is me or them", trust me, I have the confidence that it will be them every time. And believe me, if you were in a situation of "me or them", you would want me to be there and I would become your reeeeeally good buddy real fast
  3. I see your point, however, my point was that for the victim's to be armed with a gun it would have been a good thing and the junkie was armed with an AX not a gun! Wait, is that AXE? Do you know how to make the spell check work? I am getting tired of going back and trying to fix my d@mn spelling?
  4. Pug, That's good to hear, but really, there are no junkies in the UK? My daughter leaves for London next Saturday for her last year of college. Irregardless of what you may think of with regards to the need of arming yourself in the UK, I am going to have a friend of mine who has recently just retired as a Detective Inspector from the Specialist Crime Directorate at New Scotland Yard pick her up from the airport and take her to her flat. Again, you will have to trust me on this one, my buddy (This is him) in London draws a little different conclusion then you do about protecting yourself. Oh and I did a quick search for the story on my brother's co-worker (Here it is)
  5. Pug, I am sure this would never happen in the UK because nobody ever does drugs in the UK - (being sarcastic). And I assure you this is absolutely true (my brother worked with the victim). One late evening my brothers co-worker awoke to a crash at the downstairs rear door of his house. (A guy on drugs - methamphetamine - had rummaged the co-workers garage, armed himself with an ax and was smashing down the rear door). Before he could rise out of bed, the drugged out ax man was up the stairs and in the master bedroom swinging the ax at the co-worker. Taking several blows to his head he began his struggle with the methed out ax guy and the fight was on with a large part of his skull split open. He sustained numerous blows to his arms as he tried to fend off the maniac and yelled for his wife to call 911. His wife did so and saw that her husband was loosing the battle. She decided to join in or her husband was going to die. The two fought the ax guy ferociously and were able to push him back out into the hallway. Once the maniac was in the hallway they slammed the door shut and held it. Now the ax man began slamming the ax into the door and was breaking it down. This is where it gets real scary. As the co-worker and his wife stood holding the door closed, they realized there was nothing between the maniac with the ax and their two daughters who slept in the bedroom down the hallway. The co-worker had to make a decision. Open the door or continue to hold it shut and pray the maniac did not turn his fury towards the children. That is when he came up with plan B. He had no weapon (GUN) to defend himself with and knew if he opened the door, it would be certain suicide. He told his wife to barricade herself into the room. His plan was to jump from the upstairs window, run to the garage, arm himself with the only weapon he owned (a shovel) and attack the methed out ax man from the rear. As fate would have it, when he jumped he broke his ankle and lay helpless as the images of his entire family being hacked to death ran through his mind. As he drifted in and out of consciousness he heard the sirens of the responding police cars approaching. (he had a caved in skull, several ax blows to his upper body and was bleeding profusely from the ax lacerations sustained to both arms) Anyway, the drugged out ax dude heard the sirens too and ran from the back door into the darkness of the night. A containment was set up by the police and the maniac was caught several hours later. My brother's co-worker and his family survived the ordeal and the first thing he did when he was released from the hospital was go buy himself a gun. He has since taken all the necessary gun safety courses and he, his wife and children are all proficient in using a fire arm. This guy lived in a sleepy beach town on the coast were the average home value is right around $975,000.00 and there is little to no crime - this was not the big bad city of Los Angels and the guy who attacked my brother's co-worker was a total stranger. Arming yourself from fellow armed citizens? You watch to much TV and you might be confusing the 21st century from the 1800's when six shooters ruled and they were slung from every able bodied mans hip in the wild west. It's a choice - one you may not agree with and that is your right, as well as it is their right to own a gun. It is not fair to judge other people's choices negatively when you base them on your limited perspective of life and insinuate that to make a choice other than the one YOU deem fit is wrong. It always amazes me how tolerant and understanding a group of people claim they are until they disagree with your beliefs. Then they usually shout you down and tell you how intolerant YOU are, which is then followed by the inevitable attacking of your intelligence and character as you "just don't understand" What follows next is the complete dismal of you as a viable human being, unless of course you "come around" to their point of view. Then you are allowed back into the club. What kind of person are you?
  6. NICE! Good pictures, nice segway back to the intent of the original poster - Just a picture of your gun and your watch. I agree with TTK, for some strange reason guns and watches compliment each other very well. For me, it is the simple marvel I experience at the craftmanship and deliberate purpose and efficency of a purpose built mechanical device. And guns, like watches, always intrigue me as I wonder what story they could tell about thier previous owner and where they came from... As far as the whole gun thing goes, my COLLECTION is for work. If you don't like guns don't buy one - just becuase I happen to like them, I wouldn't insist that you own one and likewise, I would assume if you don't like them, you would not find it appropriate to tell me I can't own one. Makes sense to me.
  7. That depends... Got any pictures you can send me... jk
  8. Why Miss V - you have me blushing! I guess I should check with my wife to see what sign she is
  9. Good eyes. It is the short carbine version - I love that gun!
  10. Nice Wilson. If you like thier guns and haven't tried a NightHawk, you might want to check them out - NightHawk Here are some tools of my trade:
  11. If someone buys the BR03-92 42mm Limited with orange hands and dial, would you kindly update this thread as to how much or if there is any lume on the dial and hands? Thanks in advance. I just recieved one, but my "limited" version only has lume on the hands, unlike the white dial version with lume on the dial. I am trying to figure out if there are two different versions of the "Limited" BR03-92 out there...
  12. I think your right about the thickness (the Rep looks la tiny bit thicker), but I have held the Rep & the Gen side by side. The thickness of the case and the lug shape is not something that you can really see any difference in, even when the two are side by side.
  13. Panama - I revieved my BR03-92 Orange "Limited" 42mm today. I went to the AD and compared it to a Gen. It is a very accurate Rep watch and the case, as far as I could see, was spot on! The rounded edge on the bezel you are refereing to is only an illusion from the photos. The bezel is the exact shape of the Gen. Unlike the post I saw of the BR03-92 with white markings on the dial where the dial markers and hands were lumed, the orange limited version I received only had lume on the hour and minute hands. Also, I am not really sure that this watch has an AR coating. It is a very nice watch, however, and when the Swiss mov'mnt version comes out I will but that version for sure! If anyone buys a BR03-92 with orange markers & hands and the dial is lumed, I would like to know. I am wondering if there are two different dial versions out there...
  14. Anybody know how to get a message to Sash? The last email I recieved from him was on July 14th (the last day he posted here to RWG) He told me my order would be shipped the following day. It's going on three weeks - no order - no tracking # - no response to emails - PM box full. Any ideas?
  15. Hey - Guess what? - Just checked the listing and... "This Listing Is Unavailable" I guess it was pulled
  16. It's still up. This moron is about to become a rich moron. It is up to $4,050.00 and climbing. Now that ebay is hiding the bidder info you can't even drop a line to the poor souls who think they are getting a steal!!! Hope ebay pulls it...
  17. I don't usually "get involved" but for some reason this one bugged me. Especially when I saw that people were raising the bid and this watch has the potential to go to $10,000.00+ Anyway I sent the joker an email - for entertainment purposes I have included the exchange: Me: "Your watch is fake. If you don't remove it you will be reported to ebay." Seller: "how can you said is fake" (Notice that he is fishing for ways to improve his scam and and I really doubt someone who owns a 127 would have such terrible English or grammar!) Me: "Thats' easy. Recessed cannon pin, COSC certificate is fake and you have no picture of back of watch to show movement or serial # of watch. Remove your watch or you will be reported to ebay" Seller: "telling you My watch is 100% real.you wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (Nice grammar) Me: "You really aren't that smart are you? The watch you are trying to sell as real is a model 127, it is 47mm, NOT 48mm like you have listed. Panerai does not even make a 48mm. You have been reported to ebay" Seller: "what evry" I reported him today. I will be curious to see what happens...
  18. Two people over at RWI have reported succesfully taking thier SteelFish to diving depths to 180ft. + Here This is the dive graph from one of the guys dive. Real world baby! I guess they didn't read Sieko's guidelines
  19. BINGO!!!!!!!!! EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As far as one watch failing and one watch not... If you would indulge me just a little Pug, I believe your situation is is precisely a case of faith. Please allow me to explain why. Earlier in this thread I posted: "Don't be afraid! Have your watch pressure checked. If it is good to 3atm, go give it a thrashing. I think you might be surprised as to what it will endure." "I had my rep sub pressured checked to 3atm (Approx 66ft in depth) and I have been swimming, snorkeling, surfing and jacuzzying for almost a year now and it is working flawlessly." and lastly "there is no reason that a diver style rep that is properly sealed and tested for a max of 3atm should be just fine for swimming, snorkeling and YES - dare I say it - DIVING INTO THE WATER!" What I thought to be crystal clear is that I had my watch checked to be able to withstand 3atm max - my swimming etc etc with the watch was not based on "FAITH" at all, it was checked to 3atm max and I knew this to be a fact. I also know what I have done with the watch the past year to be a FACT as well. In your situation, correct me if I am wrong, as I am guessing, you did not have your watch checked prior to swimming with it. It could have been rated to 1000atm and it would have made no difference. You swam with a watch that was not tested and on FAITH and FAITH alone you expected it to work. It didn't. That is the only fact I see in your post other than you took someone's word (faith again) that your watch wouldn't leak and it failed. Hey, if we swim, dive etc with our watches we will all probably have a watch leak at one time or another. I had a $5,000.00 Kobold leak. I was told to change the seals every year if I continued to dive and swim with it. It was holding just fine, I let an extra year go by and low and behold, I should have listened, it leaked. The Kobold was rated to 30atm and I was surfing with it like I have been with my 3atm rep watch. Pug, if I had any hope, other than just having a little fun with my post, it is to get people to think and not blindly regurgitate "facts" that are plucked from the internet to support what the person already wants to believe. There is no doubt that just about anyone with a modem of intelligence can pull "facts" from the interet to say what ever they want. What my hope is (and I feel like I am rambling on with what I thought was obvious) that as we engage each other in dialog we keep an open mind and have fun finding these "facts" out for ourselves by doing. Like I said earlier, with an open mind you will sometimes find out that what is excepted as "fact" may be the farthest thing from the truth as you perceive it. My whole point is to just have fun trying. No lives hang in the balance here, it's just a bunch of guys BS'n and trying to have some FUN!!!!!!!!!!! Now go out and thrash those watches :thumbsupsmileyanim: :thumbsupsmileyanim:
  20. You just can't help yourself, can you Pug. No body is allowed to have some fun on your watch (pun intended) no sir eeee not here, we are serious watch people who know it all... I guess if Mr. "Sieko" says so, than it must be. While your putting your faith in Mr. Sieko, ask him how it is that I have been surfing, diving, jacuzzi'n and shower'n in my watch that is only good for 3atm. I guess I have a magic watch that defies physics. The last time I checked, Bernoulli's equation is physics. You might want to argue with someone else about that
  21. Now that's the spirit! Good on ya mate!
  22. Andy - Are you a Britt? (it's a joke Andy- Britts are known for their dry, some would say - no, sense of humor) Of course I wrote it with humor - According to my wife I am a little crazy, but she still laughs at me never the less. Hell, I laugh at myself! I agree with you 100% on the vibration thing! In fact I was just thinking about that very topic as it relates to the potential for damage to your watch. I destroyed a mechanical watch the first time I took one on a mountain bike ride due to the vibration. I was thinking that the odds are probably much greater that you would wreck your watch due to vibration from swinging a hammer or riding on a bumpy trail than water getting in and ruining it. Glad to hear that you test in real world conditions. My point is that we all spend a lot of time guessing what would happen, when in fact, if you go out and give it a try you might be surprised to find that what a lot of people seem to take as fact, is not even remotely close to reality! I certainly would never trust a rep watch for a 150ft dive, but there is no reason that a diver style rep that is properly sealed and tested for a max of 3atm should be just fine for swimming, snorkeling and YES - dare I say it - DIVING INTO THE WATER! IF Gran says never, ever, dive into the water wearing a watch and I have not only dove into the water wearing a rep, but done it repeatedly, what does that say about Grans edict? (and trust me- I am not "just lucky")
  23. FX - Yeah, I read Grans post, in fact I read it when he first posted it. I just happen to see it different. And you are correct my friend, it is with a touch of humor that I like to post, as I don't really take any of this stuff that serious. I realize the depths shown in feet are a guide based on a calculation as the writer tries and relates the depths to real world activities (ie swimming, diving etc) but it illustrates my point perfectly. What equation was used? What factors were considered? What watch was used? What was the water force against the watch? Was it salt water or fresh water? What was the temperature of the water? Was the swimmer Guamanian or Indonesian? Did they purchase the watch at Costco or Tourneau's? My guess is if you went back to the original "data" for the guide, you would find someone just took a huge guess! Look at the chart and apply some common sense - 330ft is the recommended depth for a watch that passes a pressure test and all it is good for is swimming and snorkeling? Come on man! Go test it for yourself - I have. My watch was good for 3atm (66ft - allowing 1atm for sea level) and I surf with it - according to the guide it is good for "handwashing, rain" I don't know the exact physics of water pressure exerted by a wave (although my son did a science project on this exact subject) but I know the resulting force of a wave is not measured in PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) but in TONS! You must be washing your hands pretty vigorously if that is all it is good for according to that guide. I read an interesting theses based on Bernoulli's Equation NASA LINK as it relates to fluid dynamics moving over enclosed sealed objects. In part, the paper I read used the phenomenon of a hurricane (wind speed) moving over an enclosed object (house) to demonstrate how a low pressure area is created OUTSIDE of the house if all the windows and doors are shut. This low pressure is what causes the windows to blow OUT (not in) when a hurricane passes over a house with closed windows and doors. In effect the pressure in the house is greater than the pressure outside of the house do to the moving air and subsequent low pressure created. Farmers in the Midwest don't understand the physics of Bernoulli's Equation, but for years they knew that if you open the doors on both sides of the barn during a hurricane you stood a much better chance of the barn being there after the hurricane was over. Real world baby! This is the same principal that lifts a jumbo jet in the air (fast moving air over the top of the wing and slower moving air on the bottom) high to low pressure creates lift. Now apply this proven theory to a watch. It doesn't take much of an imagination to assume that there is a very real chance that rushing water over a watch may create a low pressure area outside of the watch and you stand a good chance of making the watch MORE water resistant to water leaking in than if the watch were just sitting static in the water as the pressure will be GREATER in the watch than the low pressure outside of the watch. Of course, I am not talking about a high pressure blast to a watch case, but again, apply some common sense. Just look at your watch case - are there any direct lines that blasting water can actual have a straight shot in line with a sealing point? Not on any of my watches. Most watches have overlapping edges on their crystals, case backs and crown tubes. Not likely that a watch sealing point will even take a direct blast of water due to diving or moving your hand through the water. I call Bull$h!T on all the witch doctor science that says a watch subjected to moving water is more likely to leak! Let's see it in the real world - not someone who searched the net and found something that isn't even based on real world experiments! Anyways - just BS's and trying to have a little fun! Don't be afraid! Have your watch pressure checked. If it is good to 3atm, go give it a thrashing. I think you might be surprised as to what it will endure. Oh, and one more thing - I don't know Gran - he seems like a nice guy and all, but he kinda of proves my point in his post as well. He says "Dont ever jump of a cliff with you watch on....never ever do it..not even from 1 or 2 meters up" Since Gran probably follows his own advise I would bet that he has never jumped from a cliff with a watch on so how would he know it won't make it? I can tell you this - I have jumped, numerous times, from a lot higher than 2 meters. and my watch walked away to see another day! Jump Gran Jump!
