Why so many catch and release Tudor Black Bays?
fijikid replied to Big Dazza's topic in General Discussion
Hype. Hope. Nope. Next please. Expectation exceeds reality, most of the time. Especially when it's a rep! Bought at a discount on the used market, they will be more appreciated. -
Such a handsome watch, but that crown is a bit ridiculous to me. Seems like it digs into your wrist? Dealbreaker?
-
Are these the same watch? You be the judge !

If I was the TD, I'd cancel the deal. -
Best way to ship a $5000 Franken from Norway to South California

Third party insurer. That's what jewelry pros do. Package goes anonymous, but you and insurer know what's up. Zero advertising on package for scum to peruse. There are several that do this, but some want you to prove you are a pro, too. -
MD2020 Who is dealing with him, I'm worried now!

It's fine if he doesn't want anything to do with some of you anymore, BUT fer[censored]sake, grow up and let them know where their property is and when they can expect to see it. This includes Finn. I have no respect for people who dismiss their basic professional responsibilities even if they think their customers are dicks at this point. It's just childish. Man up and handle your business - customers sucking is no excuse to effectively steal their property. -
My experience with Cape Cod usage is simple: gin & lobster after the beach. Am I missing something?

Hell hath no fury like a watchmaker scorned, they say. That is what they say, isn't it? I really hope thinking is employed before acting whence bad thoughts creep in. I really thought this thing had been turned around - guess it just kept turning.... -
I don't get it? You're a submissive who doesn't take any [censored]? It's OK. I know your a straight-shootin'-tough guy and I'll keep my distance. Have fun here - a great bunch of guys with a sense of humor, though I suppose we should get to know you before we give you any [censored]. I'll concede that.

This is no fun, of course, but calling Christopher Ward "gen" is kind of funny. Probably has parts made in the same factories as reps.

Bought a tag heuer replica from fellow member customs problem ?

I think the public airing is helpful to all. Shows what not to do and what can happen even when you try to do it the 'right' way (whatever that is). I understand the frustration of the buyer and I believe the seller. I don't see what the problem is with having this out in the open. The seller needed to see what the hive thought. And now they both know. I would never use that shipper again, that's for sure. -
Restraint is the cornerstone of decorum. Many think free speech trumps decorum. I don't. Right place right time for everything. I don't care about the outcome of this debate as far as this site is concerned, but I'd be hard pressed to believe forced decency in avatars/sigs is a good enuf reason to bail.

Hi Richard. If I ever sell a watch, and you want it, I will happily send it to the UK. And if I don't want to because I'm sick of all the brits, kiwis, aussies and their ilk here in NYC using the word 'mate' too much, then I'll send you a nice PM indicating that I've been mated to death and just can't bear to ship anything to mate's birthplace. But that's unlikely, so I'll probably ship it to you, if you're willing to sing the star spangled banner while wearing a Beyonce mask. That's reasonable, right? Seriously, replying to a PM is easy and nice. And obviously not for everyone.

It Tudor's main visual differentiating point to it's more famous cousin. And, they just look way cooler. Fat hands rule. See vintage Squales for more evidence of this phenomenon.

Scratches and dings are small price to pay for the remarkably controlled chaos our our society (even Canada!). I can't help but chuckle at the people with those ridiculous Bumper Bullys dangling from their cars. Free yourself of material worship - waste of time. Don't be mad, I like nice things too, I just like them banged up a little.
-
Apologies to admin. You opened up the trade forum and I got so excited I crapped the bed. Repeat post and high value violation! Dang. If it sells here I will donate to make good. Promise.

Seems like you're having a 'just because' moment. Have you actually been looking for one of these or did it just strike your fancy cuz there was finally a nice watch under his glass? If you really want one, $600 is not a bad price for this watch. It appears to be the 34mm model w/date. Fairly common and priced usually anywhere from $500 - $1200 depending on how delusional the seller is. If it's the jumbo version which is 38mm, then I'd say a very nice deal - though it looks more like the pedestrian 34mm version. Nice watch.

Yikes. Must feel like utter [censored]. And you gotta keep on keepin' on. At $75K, I'd [censored] myself all the way to the top! My fingers are crossed, Hike! I know it's all in the history books, but I'm rooting for you. I feel an epiphany coming! -
That crown leaving it's mark, eh?

True adventure and suspense. Like buying reps! (but soooooo much better) I'm on the edge of my seat. Bring it! -
Logical and simple explanations are generally anathema to the modus operandi of the lazy and dumb. These packages have a funny knack for turning up eventually. Try to forget about it for a bit.

As a fellow New Yorker (brooklynite), I can attest to the absolutely detestable service available behind the bullet-proof plexi in our post offices. However, in this case the troglodyte was probably telling you the truth. Registered mail requires that the package be taped EXCLUSIVELY with paper tape that you wet the backside to affix. It's a pain, for sure, but it's so that the package can be stamped by everyone who touches it. Plastic tape cannot be stamped, hence, registered mail cannot be used.
-
Yup. That's the one. Returned a Tudor Monte Carlo dial from Brooklyn, NY. Took a few weeks, but all was well. Good luck with your international mailing adventure!

Thanks ZK. One of my all time favorite vintage pieces. This one is a gen Tudor Tiger with a new face and hands from you know who.
